About Allison & David Dunkenberger

My wife and I grew up in the area and moved back after spending ~10 years in North Carolina. Having purchased the property from her parents, and getting inspiration from the Central Coast region of California, we planted the vineyard in 2007 and began selling wine commercially in 2011.

Allison & David Dunkenberger purchased this estate in 2003

Why Allison & David Dunkenberger chose Virginia

This custom built house is nestled away in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. Expansive views and remarkable sounds of silence and nature make this a truly unique property. We want you to be able to experience the relaxing qualities in an all too busy and hurried world we live in today!

What makes this estate unique

Feel like you are hundreds of miles away from civilization, yet enjoy the benefits of the surrounding towns/cities with just a short drive.

Great place, great location . Peace and quiet but still near to Blacksburg

We were in the area for a family wedding.

This is a beautiful place.

We felt pampered and the peace and quiet was much needed from all the activity.

Gorgeous, spacious, scenic

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful home and property. Plenty of room for multiple families. Fully stocked kitchen, and bathrooms, very nice towels and linens, comfy beds, and beautifully maintained overall. We loved sitting outside on the patio and around the living room gas fireplace. We would definitely recommend Firefly Hill and would love to come back again.

Relaxing at the Vinyard

  • 5 of 5

We stayed just 2 days at this home, but wish we could have stayed longer. The property is very peaceful and relaxing. The home is set up perfectly for group/family get gatherings and allows for everyone to have their own space too. The bathrooms are one of the best features -- beautiful tile work and awesome showers! I would recommend for families or friends get away. Also easy access to many of the local attractions and scenic rides/drives.

Incredible home for a relaxing get-away!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great home for a vacation if you're looking to enjoy a peaceful, quiet spot! The kitchen is great and offers plenty of room for multiple cooks to prep meals. There is a lot of outdoor space for kids to play and also plenty of more private spaces so each guest can enjoy a retreat. Highly recommend this home! The owners were very responsive and also sent out information ahead of time so we knew where to go for groceries and other information about the property and local area.

Great house- great owners

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week and there were 5 adults and 2 kids. It was perfect! The kids had room to run and chase fireflys in the evening. There was an issue with the air conditioning not cooling on our 3rd day there and the owners came right over and fixed the problem for us. They were so kind and took great care of us. I would definitely book again.

Exquisite Venue - Perfect Communication - Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

We live in Los Angeles though most of my family is on the east coast, including in Southwestern Virginia near the Vineyard House. I tried for several months to create what I was envisioning on the west coast and then I struck gold with Firefly Hill. Allison and David have created the perfect home for friends and family to gather. The property is extremely well kept and every vista is breathtaking. Allison was more than accommodating and responded quickly with every tiny question I had. The property is family owned and family run and is obviously infused with so much love and detail. And yet, the owners are relaxed and available. The key to our event success was Allison's reliable list of vendors. From sound system and tent rental to catering, our vendors were early, brought more than we asked for and delivered the highest quality experience. The only negative comment we heard the whole weekend was from our over 75 crowd who felt that at least one bathroom and shower on the first floor could be better equipped for older people. If you are lucky enough to find an opening at the Vineyard House, take it! For some simple R&R or for making unforgettable family memories - it truly is the perfect place.
