About the property

2Br, 2Ba + Den In Ideal Location For Exploring The Monterey Peninsula (Sleeps 6)

Originally built in 1937, the Gingerbread Cottage is ideally situated less than a half mile from the Carpenter Street/Highway 1 intersection allowing for easy access to all the sights and attractions on the Monterey Peninsula. The gate in the large privacy fence opens to a stone paver landscaped patio which gets plenty of mid day sun.

Upon entering the home you will find a cozy comfortable living room featuring a thermostatically controlled gas fireplace and a 42 inch flat panel 'smart' television. Or if you prefer to bring along your favorite CD or iPod, listen on the Bose Wave sound system. On your right will be the office/den with a desk, leather recliner and a queen size sofa bed if additional sleeping arrangements are needed. This room can become private simply by closing the pocket doors.

The well equipped kitchen features all new stainless steel appliances including a refrigerator with ice maker, a dishwasher, microwave and gas stove. To the right of the bay windowed dining area is the full size washer and dryer and entrance to the second bath and second queen sized bedroom.

Moving past the dining area is a sunroom/sitting area outside the master bedroom which also features a queen bed. The master bath has a walkin shower, separate toilet area and a walk in closet.

Virtually all Monterey Peninsula activities and attractions are within 10 minutes from the property conveniently located less than half a mile from the Carpenter Avenue/Highway 1 intersection. Ocean Avenue in Carmel is less than a mile away and within five miles of the home is the Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Monterey Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Aquarium, and the Crossroads and Del Monte Shopping Centers. Add a few more miles heading south and you can be at the Highlands Inn or have a meal overlooking the Pacific at Rocky Point with many photo opportunities of Big Sur along the way.

About Bob Froese

The Gingerbread Cottage was originally built in 1937 as a two bedroom, one bath cottage which was perfect for Barrie Hart Froese's first home in her hometown of Carmel while serving as a vice principal at Carmel Middle School. She moved to San Francisco, met her husband Bob and has also lived in Barrington, IL and now in Montgomery, AL but has always kept this home as a rental.

Bob Froese purchased this cottage in 1980

Why Bob Froese chose Carmel By the Sea

As the old saying in real estate goes, Location, Location, Location.

What makes this cottage unique

In 2011, the decision was made to totally renovate the house and expand it to its current configuration. All that was kept were three of the outside walls and the original roofline - and of course the gingerbread woodwork on the outside of the house. While still maintaining the cottage atmosphere, the house has all new stainless steel appliances, a full size washer/dryer and WiFi throughout.

Charming, Comfy, Convenient, Completely Modern!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of four, enjoying a girls trip to Carmel. We loved everything about our stay in this charming cottage. The space is so much larger than "2 BR" describes, with a roomy kitchen, bright breakfast area, lovely patio, den, laundry. It is furnished very nicely with lovely artwork and a fully equipped kitchen. It is completely modernized but holds its original appeal. There is even a distant view of the ocean from the back of the house. We loved everything about it. Thanks for a terrific first trip to Carmel!

Awesome place for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was so cute. It was nicely updated and was in a great location tucked away on a quiet street. It was perfect for our week in Carmel. The sitting areas outside were great...the only things missing were a grill and a fire pit to enjoy them even more. We truly enjoyed our time here and would consider staying here again if we are back in the area.

Perfect place to day trip all over the Monterey and Big Sur area.

  • 5 of 5

The house was well equipped and very clean. Everything you need is there including coffee beans and maple syrup in the pantry! And we added a few items for the next guests. Would love to come back and spend more time in the area and in this house.

It was a very nice location and secluded venue.

We enjoyed the stay very much. The Cuisinart coffee maker was not functioning well, so we purchased and left a Mr Coffee 12-cup coffee maker for future patrons. The matress springs were a bit uneven and squeaky, but not too irritating. 🙂 Easy access to downtown Carmel and highway 1. We would stay there again and recommend it to anyone. The only missing amenities we would have enjoyed would have been a grill and a fire pit.
