Excellent base for a visit to Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

Tortilla Flats is an excellent place to stay in Gardiner, a town that is ideally situated for a visit to Yellowstone. My brother and I stayed for three nights in September 2016. The property is on a quiet street just two or three minutes from the north entrance to the park. Marie always responded promptly and fully to my e-mail inquiries prior to our arrival and during our visit. Jim and Marie, the owners/managers of TF, live next door and could not have been more pleasant, helpful and informative. Their hospitality was first-rate (loved the cake that Marie had left us for our arrival!) We found the house to be just as described on VRBO, with nicely appointed, clean rooms and an excellent range of amenities. The beds were comfortable, the shower worked very well, and the kitchen was very well appointed for those who like to dine in. When we were initially considering a visit to that part of Yellowstone, we thought of staying at the Mammoth lodge but were unable to get reservations. As it was, after having visited Mammoth on our first day we were very glad we were staying in Gardiner, which offers a much greater range of dining options and shops of various sorts. We had no complaints about Tortilla Flats, and I would definitely stay there again if I were to return to that part of Yellowstone.

Great space, great location

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a pleasant stay at Tortilla Flats. The home is clean, modern, and well-stocked with everything you might need. It's also right in town, which was nice. Would stay here again.

Spacious, modern apartment just outside north entrance.

  • 4 of 5

Tortilla Flats, situated just outside Yellowstone's north entrance, is a clean, modern and spacious apartment. Kitchen and bathroom are quite nice, and fully stocked. There is a large LCD TV with many sateliite channels and excellent reception. Internet also worked fine. There was an issue one day, but the hosts got it fixed in an hour. Hosts are very friendly, helpful and gracious. The apartment contains one bedroom and an alcove, and can accommodate four people very comfortably. Marie welcomed us with cake, and vegetables from her garden. The apartment has almost all the comforts and conveniences of a home. There is no laundary facility in the apartment, so we had to take our laundary for wash in town.

It is situated in Gardiner, MT, which is farther from the main geyser area, and from the Salt Lake City airport (compared to the west entrance). However, Gardiner is a nicer town compared to West Yellowstone. Mammoth Springs and boiling river are very close by, and the Norris basin is not very far. Decent restaurants, supermarket and gas stations are within a few blocks.

Additional info: Total bill was approximately $200 over the quoted nightly rate, due to fees and tax. Plus, there was a $300 security deposit that we had to pay upfront. Three days after our departure, we have not received the security deposit return, although Marie informed us that she started the process.

Owner's Response: Thank you Nikhil for spending your vacation with us and the nice review. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. I hope your damage deposit refund has shown up on your credit card by now. I refunded it the day after your departure, when I returned home. VRBO processed it on the 23rd. My apology for the delay. Best regards, Marie
