- A truly special place -
El Patio is located in the historic district of Silver City and boasts a five minute walk to the heart of historic downtown. Built in the late 1800's of traditional adobe block, this home is one of the earliest built in the area around the time Silver city was first settled. Post WWII, it was divided into two smaller dwellings to accommodate returning soldiers and their families. Today, the building itself is a testament to the soundness and ingenuity of adobe construction and the building methods of that time.
Named for the pleasant outdoor space it provides, El Patio offers a 500 sq. ft. flagstone patio that is bordered with many plantings, both native and otherwise, to ensure the presence of humming birds, bees and butterflies. In addition to being visually pleasing, the patio sits beneath a canopy of trees that provide shade throughout the day. There is a full size gas grill, dining seating for six, and separate lounge chairs. For evening enjoyment, the outside can be lit with soft party lights that gracefully hang between the trees and house itself. There is also a stone fire pit available for use as fire conditions allow.
Inside, you'll find the home truly defies its age; quite simply, it is bright, warm and inviting. The interior has been renovated to bring a freshness to the space, while keeping its unique features and original charm intact.
For your convenience, the kitchen is supplied with all the essentials for cooking/preparing meals, as well as, having a full size stove and refrigerator.
The bathroom has been redone with a multicolored slate floor, and a custom tile inlay that surrounds the original claw-foot bathtub. For your comfort, the towels are soft and durable, and shampoo and soap are provided.
The beds are dressed with soft, 100% cotton sheets, light quilts/down comforters, and soft or firmer pillows. The space also provides ample storage: In addition to a dresser in each bedroom, EVERY room has its own closet and shelving with plenty of room to store belongings and hang clothes for longer stays.
Not only is El Patio highly accessible to downtown galleries, restaurants and special events, it also sits directly across the street from the open space known as Boston Hill - aptly named for the Boston based mining company contracted to extract silver from the area 60 years ago. “The hill” is now home to a vast network of trails spanning 9 square miles - ideal for long or shorter hikes, mountain biking and impressive, comprehensive views of the city.
Check-In is between 2 p.m. & 10 p.m. Check-Out is 11 a.m.
El Patio is the sister property of El Pasos (VRBO #630188)

Authentically decorated adobe duplex within a short walk of downtown.
Very comfortable and charming southwestern styled home. Thoughtful and welcoming owners.
charming house and neighborhood
50+ five-star reviews? I was suspicious of paid reviewers. But the house really is that lovely. You can tell the owner loves it (and its twin next door): so much attention to details, from local art tilework in almost every room, to the sunken tub, everything designed for comfort and full of local color and history (great book selection! I didn't quite finish the FL Wright volume). Loved the welcoming fresh flowers and chili-chocolate, and the super-functional tiny kitchen, well stocked, even butter and cream in the fridge. We were there in November on gorgeous sunny days and were very comfortable. I'm a light sleeper but slept well even though the front bedroom is literally on the street -- didn't hear a thing. Clear skies at night let us see the Milky Way from our doorstep. Walked to great food and galleries downtown, found the university up the hill. Met such nice people! Easiest checkin and checkout ever. All vrbo's should be like this. First time in Silver City, definitely not the last.
Absolutely loved this place. I would highly recommend to anyone staying for a night or weeks.
The attention to detail at El Patio was the best of any location we have ever stayed at. Any place your eye seems to wonder to there is some cool piece of artwork or well crafted piece of this extremely well decorated house. The house has everything you need to make your stay welcoming and was spotless. Anything you want is within walking distance through some really quaint cool streets. Can’t wait to come back again.
Carolyn and Josh have created a homey and sweet place to stay. Very comfortable and well-appointed with everything you would need. It looks just as it is in the photos and the next time we come to Silver City, we will stay with you. Many thanks.
Our stay in Silver City was completely enhanced by the enchanting home in which we stayed. The furnishings at El Patio are warm and welcoming, the scattered little touches of southwestern style were delightful. Coffee was provided, with a French press as an added thoughtful touch. There were all the needed kitchen items and everything was clean and nest. The bathroom was darling and the tub was big and roomy. The nightlight in the hallway was a perfect touch and so unobtrusive. The fans in each room were great, when we stayed it was quite warm during the day. The neighborhood is quiet but close to great shopping and lots of restaurants. We ate at Diane''s Parlour and Vicky's, both for dinner, and really enjoyed our meals at both places. We went to the Cliff Dwellings on our hosts recommendation and LOVED that. It is a twisty, fairly long drive to get there but well worth the effort. You are able to tour the dwellings yourself and actually go inside. This park is amazing. Thank you to our hosts for all the effort they put into making their place such a great place to stay. Oh, did I mention they have a great library in their home?! We'll be back.
A dream stay
Carolyn White has created a true home away from home. El Patio is impeccably put together, with every thoughtful touch - a light goes on upon entry, as it does when you walk down the hallway; the bed is luxuriously comfortable and the pillow under my head (a question whenever sleeping away from home) was divine. While here, Silver City had one of the largest storms in years, causing floods and roadways to be littered with large rocks and sand build-up. I passed the night sleeping soundly. And anything you could think of is in the kitchen; knives, bowls, scissors, pots, lids, plateware, all tasteful and complete. I can't wait for another reason to come to Silver City, as I will want to return to this very special home.
Silver City is the gateway to the Gila National Forest that spans more than 3 million acres. The Gila Cliff Dwellings offer a look into the areas past inhabitants. The Gila River is nearby and offers fishing, swimming and kayaking (seasonal). There are also numerous hot springs. Annual attractions include the Tour of the Gila bicycle race, the Blues Fest, Pick-a-Mania acoustic music festival, the Silver City Clay Festival.
