Enjoy the views of Granite Mountain and Thumb Butte from the master suite deck and the north window of the den. This house is set atop a granite knoll overlooking a quiet, but accessible, friendly 'village' on a half acre lot about half a mile from the Prescott National Forest. It is a nice quiet neighborhood full of walkers and their pets (sorry no pets at the rental). Enjoy sunsets from the 3-person swing on our newly rebuilt west facing deck. Luxuriate in the master suites queen bed while taking in the view of downtown Prescott's twinkling lights. Take soaks in the long jacuzzi tub of the master suite.

With views in all four directions, this house is a split level with upper master suite and three attached decks. It has central air and heat, a small laundry room and space for one car in the two car garage. With more than 2100 square feet of living space there is ample room for multiple people to enjoy different parts of the house without bothering others.

There are two bedrooms plus the den with a pull out couch and a single fold out bed in the dining room. The master suite has a queen bed, long jacuzzi bath with a separate shower. There is a north facing deck and large east facing window which give mountain views including the San Francisco peaks. It has its own old school TV, desk, leather reading chair with ottoman, large walk in closet. I enjoy laying on the bed in the master suite and going to sleep watching the city lights sparkle in the distance. The other bedroom has a full sized bed, lots of closets and writing desk. The ample den (might call it a TV room as it is larger than the second bedroom) with 47' TV screen also has a leather lazy boy recliner and a fold out couch bed that sleeps two. Also in the den, built into the closet, is a computer set up with high speed internet and new printer. Off the den is the west facing deck with a view of the hillside and sunsets in the evening.

The kitchen and dining room are open and airy and with no barriers between the two, the chef can enjoy their guests while busy at work in the kitchen. The kitchen itself is fully equipped with four burner gas cook top, electric oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, espresso machine, food processor, juicer, full set of china and silverware, pots, pans, cookware, double door refrigerator w/ ice maker, a small table mid kitchen with up to 4 chairs under a new solatube. The kitchen includes built in writing desk and cabinetry.

The living room is a great place to gather with friends and family, read a book or take an afternoon nap. It has a fire place, great muted east window, a couch, lots of comfortable chairs, stereo with record and CD players and a filled book shelf.

The dining room has a large oval table with 6 chairs, a piano, book shelves full of books, single fold out bed, stereo/CD player, bar stools facing breakfast counter into kitchen. Off of the dining room is the south facing deck with wonderful views of the surrounding hillsides. The bird bath and bird feeders often attract a wide variety of birds including humming birds, which can be seen from the kitchen and dining room as well.

Please come enjoy our little slice of heaven in the hills.

About Owner/Property Manager

I am the second generation owner of the property. We grew up in Chicago. After college I entered the Navy and retired as a Commander after 24 years. I was a CPA and raised my family in Eugene OR.

Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 1979

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Capital Territory & High Country

My parents spent years looking for just the right spot to retire in the SW. When they saw this house it was an instant decision to buy and spend their final 30 years here. The clean, dry mountain air (5,800 feet elevation in the neighborhood), temperatures running about 15 degrees cooler than the valley (Phoenix) makes for a pleasant atmosphere.

My family and I frequented Prescott and fell in love with it during our visits. My parents traveled extensively, but were really at peace in this house.

What makes this house unique

Quiet, scenic mountain views, accessible to all needs, great history; Great trails abound in town and in the National Forests; there are super drives to the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Sedona, Jerome, Bagdad, Crown King and many SW Native American locations. Heck, Las Vegas is only a four hour drive for an out of pocket experience.

In addition to all the walkers, there are plenty of bicyclers and runners around. There is a good deal of activity on and around local lakes, including fishing, kayaking and bathing.

Prescott offers Sharlot Hall Museum celebrating the city's status as the first territorial capital of Arizona, Smoki museum offers a native american fare. There are many other interesting sites along Whiskey Row, the Courthouse Square stores and week end open air markets all summer; great restaurants and coffee house. Historic house abound near town center, and there are guided talks/walks to get to know the city.

Great Home

  • 4 of 5

This home had everything we needed for our stay. The bedrooms for both couples were comfortable. Having 3 decks on different sides of the home, gave a lot of choice depending on sun, wind and shade. I couldn't think of a thing the house was missing from the kitchen. The owner was fantastic for providing plenty of information on restaurants, sights to see, and hiking books. Prescott was a lovely little town. Both the Sharlot Museum and the Smoki Museum are a must see! The Wi-Fi did not work with our ipads, but the owner has a computer there to surf and check email. We were very happy with this stay.

Pleasant, Comfortable, Well-Situated

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place to stay while you explore Prescott. Despite the sometimes-barking dog, it has much to recommend it. The owner went out of his way to be accommodating, purchasing some office supplies and many trail maps before we arrived. We loved watching birds on the feeder and wildlife in the yard, and, as everyone else has said, loved the sunny peacefulness and views from all decks. The split-level layout was important to me (as to anyone with breathing difficulties), and it was great to have a bay of the garage. Probably most important was the location and locale - near National Forest walking paths and near, but not too near, downtown (for both fun and necessities), plus a very pleasant and friendly neighborhood. This is not a fancy new house, but it is comfortable, and we also appreciated how well it accommodated visiting family.

A Nice Older Home with Great Views

  • 5 of 5

This house was a good place for my husband and me, and two elderly relatives. We enjoyed our stay. There was plenty of space for other people to come over and visit. It was clean and looked like the photos on the website. The views from the kitchen and dining-room windows are great. There is a sliding-glass door (with a screen) leading from the dining-room to a nice wooden porch. The porch is surrounded by granite boulders and natural vegetation, and is a great place to sit for morning coffee.

The guest bedroom/TV room was perfect for my hot-natured uncle. It has a sliding-glass door (with a screen) that enters onto another small wooden porch with a couch-swing and pretty view. He got to have lots of fresh air and loud TV. My mother was in the adjacent minimalist bedroom, and was grateful to have her own space.

The master bedroom is far enough from the TV room so that a loud TV is not an annoyance, and has a door for privacy. It's on a higher level, but there are only about 5 stairs to climb. It has an attached bathroom (look out---no blow-dryer). There is a sliding-glass door (with a screen) which is high enough from the ground to be reasonably safe to have open anytime. There's a nice view, and a nearby tree provides a bit of privacy from the neighbors. There's a ceiling fan and an oscillating fan that we used for a breeze and white-noise (there was sharp barking from a neighbor's dog). With a window partly open and fans on, it was cool and quiet enough for sleeping. There was one time when we needed air conditioning, and it worked fine. We were there during the summer monsoon, so the temperatures were not too brutal.

The kitchen is well-stocked with pots & pans, dishes, glasses, wine-glasses, etc. The dishwasher, washing-machine and dryer all worked. There was a problem with the shower-head in the downstairs bathroom, but I think the owner has repaired it.

My mother and uncle both use canes to walk. They were able to get up and down the 6 or so steps leading out of the garage into the main level of the house. I don't think someone in a wheel chair could manage it.

There was no heavy traffic noise. The neighborhood is pretty and hilly, and you can go for a walk without being run over. The house is higher in altitude than Prescott, and is far enough from town to avoid the hassles. But getting downtown doesn't take long. For quick groceries, there is a Safeway not too far from the house on the way into town.

Exploring Prescott

  • 4 of 5

This house is well maintained and comfortable. It is centrally located near the center of the city, yet close to the Prescott National Forest. The views from the house are spectacular. The owner is accessible and will address any issues or questions.

I don't believe in ratings but they made me put one in.

Great Place For Getting Away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I could hardly have been more pleased. There was something about the place which said "this is YOUR place, this is YOUR home", while you are here. All the rooms were extremely tastefully decorated. Someone with a decorator's touch must have selected the decor. There was an amazing library, five bookcases completely filled with books on an incredible number of subjects, with excellent selections for evenings of quiet reading. Also a generous selection of CD's.

The home is located only about 2 miles from the heart of Prescott, but the setting gives

a complete sense of privacy. The views in all directions are great, especially the one looking straight west.

Prescott is a town with a western tradition, and much of the downtown area maintains

that tradition. Almost every evening during the summer there is some type of

gathering on the courthouse lawn - live music, a movie, etc. There is a great

western art museum, the Phippen Museum, just outside of town. Also there are

historical sites related to ancient Indian culture a little over an hour's drive, which my wife and I visited, namely Montezuma's Well, and Montezuma's Castle. (This brief list is only a sampling from a much larger list of interesting places to visit in Prescott or surrounding area.)

The owner was extremely helpful. When we had occasion to give him a call, he saw to it

that our problem was promptly taken care of. He also sent a list of nice places to eat.

We would be more than happy to recommend the place to a friend or relative.

Beautiful, unique and fun Prescott Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Prescott during the Fourth of July is such a special place, and we (2 families) had the pleasure of enjoying the holiday over the holiday. This home easily accommodated our two families as it is spacious, has carpet (good for kids) and a full complete kitchen. The house is really neat, it is obvious that it has been well cared for. There are many books, lots of comfy chairs/couches, two decks, and places to spread out end enjoy the weather. The location is really worth mentioning, it is just far enough away from the town center to be private and has the feel of a Northern Arizona property, but it is also close enough that we could all jump in the car and enjoy the parade and all that downtown Prescott has to offer. There is a Safeway grocery store nearby for all your necessities. The owners are great hosts and made sure we enjoyed our stay. We have stayed at many VRBO properties and this is by far our favorite. We will definitely be back! I highly recommend this property!
