Due to the utmost care for your family and mine during the worst of the pandemic, we have not rented for almost three years. Don't let the inaction on the site fool you!
Nestled in a giant spruce grove - a Christmas tree farm in the 60's! - this home offers intimate privacy with all the amenities in a spectacular garden setting for a memorable vacation. Airy open plan high-ceiling kitchen-living-dining with wall of windows, skylights, gourmet kitchen with 40" 5-burner stove, soapstone counters and farmhouse sink, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, including full bath on pool level. Central a/c. Spacious two level deck with new gas grill and dining area. High speed internet and cable/Netflix/Amazon/Acorn/Britbox/PBS. Sea kayak on site. Relax by the heated gunnite salt-water pool steps away from the deck, where you can sip a glass of local wine while watching the children play in the specially-constructed shallow splash area of the pool. Or set out for the burgeoning first-class wineries and both sound and bay beaches minutes away. Our local beaches are exceptional for children. Or lie back with the whole family on the sprawling sectional sofa and watch the clouds sail by through the huge skylights. The open living-kitchen area is designed so you can chat with everyone while cooking, eating, watching television, working at the sofa table, or just lounging on the sofa. The extensive fully-fenced, landscaped garden includes flowers for cutting, a full culinary herb garden, and heirloom cherry tomatoes. The circular drive is private, and the house is invisible from the road. The neighborhood has bloomed with organic, farm-fresh, bio-dynamic and u-pick food sources, and several first class vineyards are within 10 minutes of home. We are happy to be able to welcome your family again!

Great rental, lovely house

Rented in August 2015. We've stayed in the area many times in the past 10 years and renting here is a highlight. This is a lovely house with heated pool and very helpful and responsive owner. There's plenty of space to relax and hang out with family. Southold is quiet and relaxing. Highly recommended!

Enjoyable stay for our young family

We stayed at this property 3 summers ago, and if we had not moved from CT to NC, we would definitely have returned. The owners were fantastic to work with and wonderful hosts. It was the perfect cottage rental for my family of 5 (3 young children) with a stocked kitchen, very comfortable and bright family room space, good sized dining table, gorgeous pool, and beautiful setting in the woods. We loved that the warm pool had a large shallow section allowing our kiddos who couldn't yet swim to safely play in the water. We also loved checking out the different nearby public beaches (not crowded at all!), local farms with fresh produce daily, as well as the vineyards that were low key and family friendly. The nearby town was super cute and made for fun nights out to dinner and ice cream. My kids still talk about the pony rides they took at a nearby farm that had other animals (and tractors!) for them to check out. Lastly, the ferry ride over to get to the north fork was pretty cool, too! The only suggestion I have for the owners (and it's hard to find one!) would be to make the 3rd bedroom as nice decor-wise as the other two to stay in. Great spot for a family vacation!

Why they chose this property

Life on the North Fork is casual and easy. Less traffic, less formal, and more varied than on the South Shore. All kinds of water to explore, from wildlife on the creeks, to the quiet warm bays, to sunsets on the Long Island Sound. Dig for clams, collect mussels on the rocks, and enjoy the fantastic farm stands and wineries.
The house itself is set off a small quiet road, down a curving private drive, and is invisible from the road. Privacy is a rare commodity in a popular vacation area. The pool is right behind the house and deck, so no buggy hikes. And you can talk to guests in the pool and watch the kids while dining on the deck. The yards are fully fenced to keep the deer out.
The surrounding land was a Christmas tree farm in the '60's, and the remaining huge Norway spruces create a magical atmosphere, part Long Island and part Marin county.
A bio-organic tomato farm around the corner is an August delight. Golf, fishing, tennis all nearby, no need for long drives.

What makes this property unique

The private setting is rare and wonderful. The huge spruce trees are spectacular -- what a sound to sleep to when it's breezy. The kitchen will make any chef happy, with soapstone counters, a farmhouse sink, a giant butcher block island with seating, 40" 5-burner dual-fuel stove, and appliances/kitchenware for every purpose, from ice cream maker to stove-top pancake grill. The two level deck means you can have a quick snack near the kitchen, or dine on the lower level and watch the children in the pool. The pool is steps from the house, made of white marble dust gunnite. A salt-water system means you don't experience the chlorination of most pools. The property is ideal for children of all ages. The pool is very close to the house, and besides the shallow end has a unique wading area for smaller children. The deck has a lift off gate to keep children on the upper level by the kitchen. The whole yard is fully fenced. A shallow bay beach with a playground is minutes away, as is a Sound beach. With both central a/c and a heated pool the weather will never interfere with your vacation.
