Fantastic Experiance

  • 5 of 5

Stayed a few years ago with my wife and another couple. We travel often and to this day this is still one of our favourite adventures. The owner is a pleasure to deal with and the property manager was helpful. It's off the grid which is exactly what we were looking for. But close enough to stores and great resturants. No shortage of places to grab a bite. But you will need to rent a bike or car to get around. We had bikes which worked for us. That said our favourite place to eat was at home on the covered outside eating area. The wildlife around the property is out of this world. The beaches in the area including the one the house directly backs onto are amazing. There are also a ton of activities that can be organized through the tour company in town. You can also do your own thing and visit places like organic farms and animal reserves. Which we did both and loved all of it. We got there by bus which was a bit of a pain, but got a private car to take us back to the airport and that was worth every penny. Only area of improvement is mentioned in one of the other reviews is the main road could use some cleaning up. But my review is from some time ago so this may have been addressed.

Relax in paradise

  • 5 of 5

Great home close to great restaurants, and grocery store. Come stay and look for sloths, toucans or monkeys on the property! The sound of the waves will rock you gently to sleep. The beaches around here are amazing. If you wish to get around the area, rent a bike!

Wonderful relaxing time.

  • 3 of 5

Manager, friendly and easy to deal with, property is out a ways, not one piece of comfortable furniture, took my own chairs, very private, glad we had a car. We went to relax and unwind, husband loves the beach, it was right there, couldn't see it, but didn't want to, I could hear the waves crashing, good enough for us, just loved hanging on deck, watching for the animals and reading went to leave hectic life at home and did! Have been to this area of Costa Rica, so we knew what to expect. Loved the Tree Of Life, recommend going, you see the animals plus great gardens. If I return to this area of Costa Rica, yes I would stay here again, they need to put more effort around that area to clean up the trash.

Cocles is the next neighborhood after Puerto Viejo. Its beach is the only one in the area that is protected by a lifeguard and is a great place for surfers. A short distance from the shore, a small rocky island, covered with vegetation adds to the already superb view. A small road of about 6 km (Margarita road), leaves from Cocles and crosses the hills to reach the road that goes from Bribri to Sixaola, near the Panamanian border. The road is in poor condition and it is recommended to use it only with a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
