Classic American Summer in a Lakeside Cabin - Strawberry Lake Cabin
A Minnesotan summer is a quintessential American summer.
And on the banks of crystal-clear Strawberry Lake in the far Up North, our one-bedroom, one-bath Strawberry Lake cabin will entice even the most digitally connected guests to step away and enjoy the great outdoors like kids on summer vacation!
Built by local craftsmen in 2013, our Strawberry Lake Cabin sits at the edge of Strawberry Lake, which is beautiful in all seasons but holds a special charm in summertime. The air is warm, the sun shines bright and clear, and the deep green foliage dapples the glassy lake. Enjoy all this lush scenery from the spacious deck under the trees at Strawberry Lake Cabin—from morning coffee to evening glass of wine.
Inside, an open common area, including a fully stocked and gleaming new kitchen, faces cathedral windows overlooking the deck, the woods, and the lake. These windows span the width of the house, all the way up to the lofted sleeping area, which is perched just at the tree line.
A RETREAT FOR COUPLES & FRIENDS; MOREOVER, A PLACE TO REUNITE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SPREAD OUT
Couples love it here at our Strawberry Lake Cabin—no matter the season.
Experience the easy romance of tucking into nature together and shaking off the stresses of everyday life. From the loft bedroom, views of an unpolluted Minnesota sky full of stars will lull you into a deep sleep, and the green woods filled with birdsong will greet you first thing in the morning.
Friends’ getaways—complimented by a bottle of Minnesota wine, maybe? —find a wonderful setting here, as well.
And small families appreciate our Strawberry Lake Cabin—as well as the many family-friendly activities on the property and nearby. To make your family retreat easy, we provide a highchair, a baby crib, and a washer/dryer for warm, fresh clothes for the family mid-week.
No matter who you’re traveling with, we highly recommend a canoe trip out on Strawberry Lake. We will provide the canoe for you! And the water here is calm and peaceful, with less motorboat traffic than on many of the lakes in this area. Not to mention the water clarity: spring-fed Strawberry Lake is so clear; the DNR’s 2022 lake survey measured water clarity at 21 feet!
In summer, the Tamarac Lake National Wildlife Refuge, located just three miles away, comes alive and is a spectacular place for a hike or cycling. When you return from your outdoor adventure, heat up the gas or charcoal grill and get your energy back with a perfectly cooked lakeside burger. Or maybe you'd like to be pampered and treated to a local homemade-catered breakfast, lunch, or supper - we can help make that happen.
As the sun starts to sink and the stars pop out, prepare the fire pit for a heavenly dessert of—what else? ~ gooey toasted s’mores over a crackling flame. The cool air of Minnesota summers makes fireside chats comfortable long into the evening.
MAKE NEW MEMORIES WITH US
There’s a timeless quality to Strawberry Lake and Northern Minnesota. As the setting for many of my own happy childhood memories (and the place where I proposed to my wife), the woods and lakes Up North hold a special place in my heart. I love being able to share the magic of this place with others, at a cabin built by people who live here in the area, too.
We’ve decorated the house with items that mean a lot to us, collected locally and around the world.
Be charmed by Strawberry Lake Cabin and the wild places of Minnesota!
NEW BOATING EXPERIENCE
Past guests have asked us if we had a boat they could use. Now, we are excited to announce we have the option of a boat and motor to help you explore and fish Strawberry Lake. Available for rent is our 14 ft. fishing boat and 9.9 hp motor at a flat rate.
Our complimentary canoe continues to be available for you to enjoy.
If you’d like to capture the essence of that “feeling of premium,” we’d love to have you here to experience our version of paradise at Strawberry Lake!

Cute little cabin - but quite spacious. Gorgeous views of Strawberry Lake. Kitchen was extremely well equipped- loved it!!! Comfortable and enjoyable!!!
Very nice property, super clean, beautiful views out the large windows. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and plenty of towels. Check in was super easy, Les the caretaker was so nice, and communication with the owner was excellent. We were able to fish right from the dock (catch and release.) I can’t say enough good things, we totally enjoyed our stay and highly recommend! Thank you!
This property was absolutely stunning! The craftsmanship of the cabin itself was breathtaking but add the view and location and you are speechless. Such an amazing stay with everything you’d need to be comfortable and get away from the day to day chaos. Hope to come back soon!
We were welcomed by the property manager, Les, who was very kind and gave us lpts of information. The cabin was very calming and peaceful. Would definitely stay here again.
We LOVED the cabin and our stay!! It was very clean and cozy and was just the place for my wife and I! Perfect setting with everything one needs for a comfortable stay! We will absolutely be back!!
Very relaxing Minnesota Lake stay. The cabin was perfect for discovering Lake country. Itasca State Park about 45 minute drive, beautiful. Took our bicycles, nice riding. Les and wife were most helpful and had the cabin ready for our visit. Everything was as advertised. Thank you, Don.
Was a cute and cozy cabin for a weekend trip! Comfortable temperature even in the winter (the heated floors were fantastic!)!
Beds were comfortable water pressure and water temps were stellar, and if we're back in the area would gladly stay here again.
We had a fantastic weekend getaway, my husband and I. It had everything we needed to make meals and more. Wonderful hosts. Nice cozy cabin on a wild winter weekend.
We had an amazing stay at Strawberry! Beautiful cabin- well stocked with essential items and comfy beds and crystal clear lake. We enjoyed paddle boarding, fishing, water skiing, tubing, canoeing, campfires. A perfect family vacation on a quiet lake.
Stayed at the cabin for 2 nights. Used the boar and caught 20+ fish! Great location!

We're happy you appreciated our Strawberry Lake Cabin's location and that we we're able help make our rental boat and motor available, for some successful fishing!... Walleye, maybe?
We were able to relax, enjoy nature, read a book and get refreshed. The cabin was very cozy in a nice secluded spot. They even treated us with some homemade baked goods. Definitely recommend.
The cabin is exactly as described. It is warm and cozy with all the comforts you need. Don was very good about communicating and even worked with us when an unexpected snow storm delayed our arrival. I highly recommend the Strawberry Lake Cabin.delayed our arrival. I

About the host
Hosted by Don Aamodt
As a farm boy raised on an apple orchard in Stillwater, MN, I grew up loving the outdoors. With my father and grandfather, I spent my childhood hunting, fishing and camping in the woods 'Up North.'
Though my wife (who grew up in Sonoma, CA wine country) and I now live in the Central Valley farming region of California, our love for woods and waters of Minnesota ensures that we make time for yearly visits to Strawberry Lake Cabin. With its tucked-into-the-trees setting next to sparkling, spring-fed Strawberry Lake, we've found no better place in the world for slowing down and recharging together. And, we think you'll agree.
Don't hesitate to contact us with questions about the cabin and the surrounding area of Detroit Lakes - we're happy to help!
What's most important to us is helping you create fun and lasting vacation memories. If there's any possible way, we can enhance your vacation experience at our property please contact us by phone, text or email...we aim to provide you a first-rate service.

Why they chose this property
When I came to see the lot on Strawberry Lake, I was hooked. This lakefront property - though overgrown and in the need of TLC - captured everything I loved about my youth in Minnesota: a thick cover of trees to mark the passing of the seasons and to keep the cabin secluded, a sandy lakefront for launching canoes, and acres of crystal-clear water. The cabin itself is a newer construction - built in 2013 - and provides lots of amenities we didn't have back in my days of camping in the MN woods, including a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a downy bed for restful nights, radiant heated floors/wall and A/C mini-split system.
What makes this property unique
Too many to name! Mostly, we love its Off-The-Beaten-Path secluded feeling, in the dense trees, the big front deck facing the water, the private boat dock, and the lofted bedroom that feels like a treehouse - a place where you can escape the rest of the world for a while. Two fun lake fishing & exploring benefits: 1) 14 ft. Lund fishing boat with a 9.9 hp 4 stroke Honda motor for you to rent at the following flat rates: 2-3 night stays - $80.00 (1st tank of gas free) 4 or more night stays - $180.00 (1st tank of gas free) 2) Complimentary 14 ft. Old Town Canoe, with seat backs; paddles (including child's paddle) & life jackets provided
