About the Property
1 Bedroom Main Floor, Loft with Bed & Lakeview, 1 Bath
With our winter smarts and fondness for the season, we created what we think is the ideal wintertime getaway here at Strawberry Lake Cabin.
Built in 2013 by local Minnesota craftsmen, our cabin’s floors boast radiant heat (great for defrosting your toes after a snowy hike), its comfy indoor spaces are great for long conversations and warm drinks, and its brand-new kitchen encourages you to prepare some snowed-in comfort food together.
Not to mention the world of winter activities waiting just outside the cabin. Watch thick snowflakes drift to the snow-blanketed ground and frozen lake through the prism of the cabin’s cathedral windows, which reach from the living area to the lofted bedroom. Then venture out to explore the glittering, snowbound landscape for yourself!
A RETREAT FOR COUPLES, FRIENDS & FAMILIES
Couples love it here at our Strawberry Lake Cabin—no matter the season.
Experience the easy romance of tucking into nature together and shaking off the stresses of everyday life. From the cozy, lofted bedroom, views of an unpolluted Minnesota sky full of stars will lull you into a deep sleep, and a winter wonderland will greet you in the morning.
When you and your sweetheart are ready to venture out, a whole slew of winter activities await. From ice fishing, to traversing 250 miles of snowmobiling trails, to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing across beautiful landscapes…including at lovely Pine Lake in the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, just 3 miles from the cabin, or at the winter-sports haven Maplelag Resort, located 6 miles away.
Friends’ getaways of two to four people—complimented by a bottle of Minnesota wine, maybe?—find a wonderful setting here, as well.
And families find a home-away-from home at Strawberry Lake Cabin. We have a highchair, a baby crib, and a washer/dryer for warm, fresh clothes for everyone mid-week.
If the conditions are just right, Strawberry Lake will offer up one of winter’s classic treats--ice-skating! If it’s cold outside, but not buried in snow, you can hit the ice, and afterward, build a bonfire in the outdoor fire-pit and sip hot chocolate beside the warming flames. Unfortunately, our fickle winters don’t always allow for this, but keep an eye on the lake if you visit to see if it’s a possibility!
MAKE NEW MEMORIES WITH US
There’s a timeless quality to Strawberry Lake and Northern Minnesota. As the setting for many of my own happy childhood memories (and the place where I proposed to my wife), the woods and lakes Up North hold a special place in my heart. I love being able to share the magic of this place with others—at a cabin built by people who live here in the area, too. We’ve decorated the house with items that mean a lot to us, collected locally and around the world.
We’d love to have you here at our version of paradise in Strawberry Lake!

Strawberry Lake's pristine water clarity makes it a premiere destination for swimming, boating and fishing. This spring-fed lake provides clean, clear water with 12-15 foot visibility to the lake bottom.
Consider a dawn or dusk trail bike or car ride to nearby Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge; then, walk, run or ride the miles of backwoods trails to view the exceptional array of wildlife - Bald Eagle, Nesting Osprey, Trumpeter Swans, perhaps even a Woodcock or Gray Wolf...all of which we've seen in the refuge, and so many more wildlife viewing wonders.
During the Winter months, Tamarac offers more hiking and wildlife watching on cross-country skis, snowshoes, boots or by car.
Itasca State Park (headwaters of the Mississippi River) is 42 miles from Strawberry Lake Cabin - a lovely 53 minute drive.
Pilots and passengers are welcome - Strawberry Lake is a float plane accessible lake.

About the owner: As a farm boy raised on an apple orchard in Stillwater, MN, I grew up loving the outdoors. With my father and grandfather, I spent my childhood hunting, fishing and camping in the woods 'Up North.' Though my wife (who grew up in Sonoma, CA wine country) and I now live in the Central Valley farming region of California, our love for woods and waters of Minnesota ensures that we make time for yearly visits to Strawberry Lake Cabin. With its tucked-into-the-trees setting next to sparkling, spring-fed Strawberry Lake, we've found no better place in the world for recharging together. And we think you'll agree! Don't hesitate to contact us with questions about the cabin and the surrounding area of Detroit Lakes - we're happy to help! Sincerely, Don and Cheryl Aamodt
Why the Owner Chose Ogema, MN, USA:
When I came to see the lot on Strawberry Lake, I was hooked. This lakefront property - though overgrown and in the need of TLC - captured everything I loved about my youth in Minnesota: a thick cover of trees to mark the passing of the seasons and to keep the cabin secluded, a sandy lakefront for launching canoes, and acres of crystal-clear water. The cabin itself is a new construction - built in 2013 - and provides lots of amenities we didn't have back in my days of camping in the MN woods, including a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a downy bed for restful nights, and radiant heated floors throughout.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Too many to name! Mostly, we love its Off-The-Beaten-Path secluded feeling, in the dense trees, the big front deck facing the water, the private boat dock, and the lofted bedroom that feels like a treehouse - a place where you can escape the rest of the world for a while.
