Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom Main Floor, Loft with Bed & Lakeview, 1 Bath

A Minnesotan summer is a quintessential American summer.

And on the banks of crystal-clear Strawberry Lake in the far Up North, our one-bedroom, one-bath Strawberry Lake cabin will entice even the most digitally connected guests to step away and enjoy the great outdoors like kids on summer vacation!

Built by local craftsmen in 2013, our Strawberry Lake Cabin sits at the edge of Strawberry Lake, which is beautiful in all seasons but holds a special charm in summertime. The air is warm, the sun shines bright and clear, and the deep green foliage dapples the glassy lake. Enjoy all of this lush scenery from the spacious deck under the trees at Strawberry Lake Cabin—from morning coffee to evening glass of wine.

Inside, an open common area, including a fully-stocked and gleaming new kitchen, faces cathedral windows overlooking the deck, the woods, and the lake. These windows span the width of the house, all the way up to the lofted sleeping area, which is perched just at the tree line.

A RETREAT FOR COUPLES & FRIENDS

Couples love it here at our Strawberry Lake Cabin—no matter the season.

Experience the easy romance of tucking into nature together and shaking off the stresses of everyday life. From the loft bedroom, views of an unpolluted Minnesota sky full of stars will lull you into a deep sleep, and the green woods filled with birdsong will greet you first thing in the morning.

Friends’ getaways—complimented by a bottle of Minnesota wine, maybe?—find a wonderful setting here, as well.

And small families appreciate our Strawberry Lake Cabin—as well as the many family-friendly activities on the property and nearby. To make your family retreat easy, we provide a highchair, a baby crib, and a washer/dryer for warm, fresh clothes for the family mid-week.

No matter who you’re traveling with, we highly recommend a canoe trip out on Strawberry Lake. We provide the canoe for you! And the water here is calm and peaceful, with less motorboat traffic than on many of the lakes in this area. Not to mention the water clarity: spring-fed Strawberry Lake is so clear, you can see almost 17 feet straight down to the bottom!

In summer, the Tamarac Lake National Wildlife Refuge, located just three miles away, comes alive and is spectacular place for a hike or a bike ride. When you get back from outdoor adventuring, heat up the gas or charcoal grill and get your energy back with a perfectly cooked lakeside burger.

As the sun starts to sink and the stars pop out, prepare the fire pit for a heavenly dessert of—what else?—gooey toasted s’mores over a crackling flame. The cool air of Minnesota summers makes fireside chats comfortable long into the evening.

MAKE NEW MEMORIES WITH US

There’s a timeless quality to Strawberry Lake and Northern Minnesota. As the setting for many of my own happy childhood memories (and the place where I proposed to my wife), the woods and lakes Up North hold a special place in my heart. I love being able to share the magic of this place with others—at a cabin built by people who live here in the area, too.

We’ve decorated the house with items that mean a lot to us, collected locally and around the world.

Be charmed by Strawberry Lake Cabin and the wild places of Minnesota!

NEW BOATING EXPERIENCE! In the past, guests have asked us if we had a boat they could use. Now, we are excited to announce we have the option of a boat to help you explore and fish on Strawberry Lake! Available for rent, is our 14 ft. fishing boat and 9.9 hp motor at the following flat rates:

2-3 night stays: $90.00 (1st tank of gas free)

4 or more night stays: $190.00 (1st tank of gas free)

Our canoe continues to be available to you at no charge.

About Don Aamodt

As a farm boy raised on an apple orchard in Stillwater, MN, I grew up loving the outdoors. With my father and grandfather, I spent my childhood hunting, fishing and camping in the woods 'Up North.'

Though my wife (who grew up in Sonoma, CA wine country) and I now live in the Central Valley farming region of California, our love for woods and waters of Minnesota ensures that we make time for yearly visits to Strawberry Lake Cabin. With its tucked-into-the-trees setting next to sparkling, spring-fed Strawberry Lake, we've found no better place in the world for recharging together. And we think you'll agree!

Don't hesitate to contact us with questions about the cabin and the surrounding area of Detroit Lakes - we're happy to help!

What's most important to us is helping you create happy and hopefully lasting vacation memories. If there's any possible way, we can enhance your vacation experience at our property please contact us by phone, text or email...we aim to provide you a first-rate service.

If you'd like more information about us or a more personalized booking process, please visit us at the Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce website under the 'Where to Stay' - 'Vacation Homes' link.

Sincerely, Don and Cheryl Aamodt, Owners

Don Aamodt purchased this cabin in 1997

Why Don Aamodt chose Minnesota

When I came to see the lot on Strawberry Lake, I was hooked. This lakefront property - though overgrown and in the need of TLC - captured everything I loved about my youth in Minnesota: a thick cover of trees to mark the passing of the seasons and to keep the cabin secluded, a sandy lakefront for launching canoes, and acres of crystal-clear water. The cabin itself is a new construction - built in 2013 - and provides lots of amenities we didn't have back in my days of camping in the MN woods, including a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a downy bed for restful nights, and radiant heated floors.

What makes this cabin unique

Too many to name! Mostly, we love its Off-The-Beaten-Path secluded feeling, in the dense trees, the big front deck facing the water, the private boat dock, and the lofted bedroom that feels like a treehouse - a place where you can escape the rest of the world for a while.

NEW unigue benefit!...As of the summer of 2017, we have

a 14 ft. fishing boat with a 9.9 hp motor for you to rent at the following flat rates:

2-3 night stays: $90.00 (1st tank of gas free)

4 or more night stays: $190.00 (1st tank of gas free)

Canoe available at no charge.

Excellent Vacation

  • 5 of 5

A little remote, a lot of comfort and probably every amenity you could ask for in a cabin on a beautiful lake. Immaculate well designed cabin lives larger than it is technically. Can easily accommodate 4. Wish I owned it.

Beautiful and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

The absolute perfect place for our honeymoon. We woke up to the sun rising over the lake at our feet, spent hours exploring the lake on the canoe, and relaxed by a fire every evening. Everything we needed was provided and the owners and caretakers were attentive and helpful. Could not recommend this cabin highly enough!

Upscale yet rustic get away.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was wonderful. The owners were great, and the property manager Les and his wife were always very nice (they made us coffee cakes and left us wine).

We wanted to get away from the busy city life and enjoy a few days by the lake which was amazing. They have a canoe that we used, the lake was wonderful and weather was perfect. At night we lit a bonfire and grilled some hot dogs.

This cabin is very modern and has a lot of the utensil you would need to cook, clean, or do laundry. The kitchen is equipped with many pots and pans from cast iron to regular non stick. Although a drive back into town isn't to far, I'd suggest you remember to bring what you need to make life easier unless exploring is your thing.

I really enjoyed our stay here, and will be looking to book again in the future. Maybe with another couple friend.

My two adults sons and I enjoyed a fall get away at this cabin and hit the weather perfectly to offer us bon fires at night, afternoon enjoyments on the back deck and a great place to relax with all the amenities of home.

great getaway in northern minnesota

  • 5 of 5

This is a great cabin about 30 minutes north of Detroit Lakes. We loved the place so much that we barely went anywhere else during our stay in the area. The cabin is beautiful with a fully equipped kitchen. There are also two grills to cook out on the back deck which overlooks Strawberry Lake. We also enjoyed a bonfire one night and use of the canoe which is included with the cabin. If you are looking for a getaway where you just want to relax in a great space, this is the cabin for you.

Strawberry Lake's pristine water clarity makes it a premiere destination for swimming, boating and fishing. This spring-fed lake provides clean, clear water with 12-15 foot visibility to the lake bottom.

Consider a dawn or dusk trail bike or car ride to nearby Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge; then, walk, run or ride the miles of backwoods trails to view the exceptional array of wildlife - Bald Eagle, Nesting Osprey, Trumpeter Swans, perhaps even a Woodcock or Gray Wolf...all of which we've seen in the refuge, and so many more wildlife viewing wonders.

During the Winter months, Tamarac offers more hiking and wildlife watching on cross-country skis, snowshoes, boots or by car.

Itasca State Park (headwaters of the Mississippi River) is 42 miles from Strawberry Lake Cabin - a lovely 53 minute drive.

Pilots and passengers are welcome - Strawberry Lake is a float plane accessible lake.
