This 1890's cottage was completely renovated in 2012 by the innkeeper who is also an interior designer. Not your typical home away from home! Quirky and Quiet yet so close to the square it is a perfect set up for a family, girls' weekend, or even for writers and journalists. One bedroom consists of two twin beds with a private bath while on the other side of the house has a full bed with a private bath as well. Heavenhill also boasts a kitchen, living room, & back porch. You may also sit under the big old pecan tree in the back yard too! If you like antiquing then you are in the right spot since Witherspoon's Antique Mall is directly behind Hh!
Shelbie is an interior designer by day and innkeeper by night?! She freelance designs for new and old construction but specializes in historic renovation/restoration. She is a newlywed too. Her husband, Sam, and their three cats live on his family farm in a 1907 farmhouse that they have been restoring for many years. We run cattle and raise kitties.
Shelbie Miller purchased this cottage in 2012
This home is very near and dear to Shelbie's heart. Her mother purchased the home in 2002 when Shelbie was just about to graduate from high school. After school Shelbie and her mother would go over to the property to peel back the layers of remodeling. One fun day we discovered a signature on the bead board ceiling that said: Josephine Heavenhill + Little Louise Miller Cross of the Heart Jan. 1, 1893. That was the day the little home was named: Heavenhill! For ten years the little home sat while Shelbie went to college and started her own career and her mother ventured out west. Shelbie never forgot Hh since it was her first love (of old houses). Out of the blue, Shelbie's mother gave her a present in 2012: Heavenhill. She immediately put her whole life savings into this home to restore and share with the community.
Take a step back in time in this little gem of a cottage. Art and History come together for a unique stay in Granbury!
We enjoyed our family weekend here. This place is very inspiring!
-we had fun listening to old records
The house is so well done. Attention to the smallest detail has been taken. Shelbie has a keen eye for detail & style. She loves her old home & it shows. Sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee or sitting in the living room relaxing was very pleasant. When we come back to this area, this is where we will stay! Very nice!
For me, the natural wood floors, the back porch and yard were reminiscent of my grandma's farmhouse. For my grandchildren, it was "cool" hearing the floors creak, playing on the back porch, seeing what I experienced weekly at my grandmas.
All this "old" was complimented with new bathrooms and good heating (we needed heat in March).
The location was second to none. While it rained 80% of the time we were there, the few hours it didn't, we could walk across the street to the beach and the lake walkways to enjoy the water. The back porch and chalkboard provided plenty of play opportunities for my 10, 9 and 2 year old grandchildren. Had it not rained so much, we would have walked to town and taken advantage of the convenient location.
For families with small children, there are some precious collectibles to be aware of.
This was a most charming and elegant cottage. Like stepping back in time to stay at my grandmother's house, but with all the comforts of modern facilities and upscale bedding. From the exquisite yesteryear decor to the tin roof (and yes, it rained!), it felt cozy and comfortable. The A/C system provided abundant relief from the August temps.
Photos can't do justice to the way the owner has carefully restored and refurbished this treasure. I would recommend a stay to anyone, and would love another "girls weekend" here. We strolled to the Granbury town square for wine tasting and an outdoor concert after dark. Shopping and restaurants were top-notch. The antique mall just behind the cottage was full of treasures. I don't write reviews like this very often, but Heavenhill deserves heavenly praise.
PERFECT, TRANQUIL, A STEP BACK IN TIME! WE LOVED EVERY INCH OF THE HOUSE FROM THE BASEBOARDS TO THE FIXTURES! The old records were so cool! We enjoyed listening to them. Relaxing on the back porch while sitting in rocking chairs drinking our coffee was the icing on the cake.
Super cute house. Lots of little details everywhere. 3 min bike ride to town. Antique store out the back door - it was like having private shopping. House is stocked with everything you'll need, seriously. If you need something special ask and Shelby will get it for you.
This was my grandmother old house when I was growing up. I could hardly wait until it was open to get to stay there again. Stayed the weekend for our anniversary and I love it! It is so homey and comfortable. Nice and quite little place that is located within walking distance of historic downtown Granbury. Also within walking distance of the Marina of lake Granbury. Loved sitting out on the back porch and watching the world go by. Takes you back to a more peaceful time. Comfy beds, clean, and friendly owners. You will love it! Lots to do in Granbury so check it out.
The historic Brazos Drive-in Theatre is a must for couples and families.
