About John

Our family has been in the hospitality industry for over 43 years since 1970. We started our vacation rental business in Fort Lauderdale and expanded into the Florida Keys in 2009. I grew up in South Florida and our family has been vacationing in the Florida Keys including Key Colony Beach since I was 9 years old.

John purchased this house in 2013

Why John chose Key Colony Beach

Our family has seen and experienced the entire Florida Keys and we just LOVE Key Colony Beach. This property needed some TLC and we had a great vision to transform it into a beautiful home and that's exactly what we did. We took out some walls to open it up to an Open Concept Home and totally renovated it with new bathrooms, new kitchen with granite countertops and a granite snack bar and new high quality Island Style Furniture in the living room with a beautiful view of the waterway.

What makes this house unique

You will enjoy the breathtaking views of the waterway, sunsets, open concept kitchen with gorgeous granite countertops and very clean atmosphere throughout our home.

Would have been nicer if...

  • 3 of 5

The house overall was nice, but the description listed a 65" TV in the living room, but instead, there was a 40" TV. Our own bedroom at home sports a larger one than that. We noticed a plaque on the wall that stated this rental had won the White Glove Award in 2013. The cleaning crew must have gotten lax, because in one bathroom, the bathmat had hair matted in it. We also encountered some roaches there. The were two large sliding glass doors in the living room. One of them was labeled "Do Not Open." The other was so hard to open, one had to brace oneself to get it open. An elderly couple, I don't think, could have opened it. We never could open the lock box, if we had the right code. We had to find another way to open and close the garage door, by coming in a back door. The lap pool was nice, but was it supposed to be a salt water pool? There definitely was salt water in it. There was no need to use the Inch Beach passes, since there was no longer a fence there. We got a laugh out of the fact that Inch Beach was appropriately named. We think it was about 50-60 ft. long.

Owner's Response: We are deeply concerned about your review on our beautiful and new vacation home located in a very upper scale Island of Key Colony Beach. You mentioned your dislikes but not once did you mention what you did like about our home and your overall vacation. Let me just ask "ONE QUESTION." Why did not not "Once" pick up your phone and call, email or text me about any of our disappointments?? We could have simply solved most of them by contacting me. 1. We "Do Not" advertise that we have a 65 inch TV in either Casa Mar Azul 4 that your reserved nor Casa Mar Azul 3. 2. We are very Proud of our housekeeping crew. They do a Great Job. We inspected and walked through Casa 3 vacation home as we do with all of them and it was very clean. My wife is in charge of our housekeeping staff and does a awesome job. She has an eye for detail but no one is perfect and can miss a few strands of hair, even you. 3. Your the first to mention any roaches in 2017. Must I remind you that we had a MAJOR Hurricane come through on Sep. 10 and no one was permitted to return until late Sep. Due to so many people having their homes destroyed they could not return to their businesses until their homes and lives were restored. Many services were not available and still today. 4. I advised you that the sliding glass door was impacted by some of the flood water from hurricane Irma that only reached the door but none of the water entered the home. Apparently the water damaged the mechanisms of the bottom rollers of the door. The new doors are on order. There was nothing we could do. You just had to walk around the outside gate to get to the pool. 5. The "Entry door code" was for the front door as the lock mechanism is located directly on the "Front Door" itself and not a lock box. One phone call would have eliminated this problem but you did not call me. WHY?? 6. All the pools were flooded by the storm surge of Hurricane Irma. They all had sea water, seaweed and we yuck. Our pool guys spent hours cleaning all of them including my very own pool. They placed chemicals and it was pristine clean. Due to water restrictions "NO ONE" was allowed to empty and refill the pools completely. We did however lower it halfway and refilled it with fresh water. 7. You find it humorous to laugh about a beach that is accessible for just about the entire length of our Island and you can only see 50 to 60 feet. Hmmm. I can only believe that you were most likely at the Wrong Beach.

Casa Mar Azul IV (Florida Keys Vacation Rentals)

  • 5 of 5

It had being out 3rd year in going to the Key and our 1st time in staying in Marathon's Key Colony. In Key Colony we stay in the Casa Mar lV home with a pool. When staying in this beautiful home it provided all the accommodations of being home plus extra (a pool to come back to after being out in our 31 foot Contender fishing and swimming ). It also provided a nice dock next to the house to put our boat. In the week we stay my family and I had one the best vacations!!! If you are heading to the Key I would highly recommend you stay at the Casa Mar lV.

A peaceful oasis

  • 5 of 5

Great house for 6 people. We only had 3 but the home was large and had a nice heated pool. The pool gets great sun and warms up quickly. We found the home surprisingly quiet even though it was high season. We normally stay at our house in Marco Island, but we thoroughly enjoyed this alternative. Highly recommended!

DIVING AND SNORKELING

As seen from the air, Marathon and the Middle Keys appear as emerald

isles set amid a sea of turquoise. Marathon's reefs offer great

variety in coral formations and fish life. The crystalline waters of

the Atlantic Ocean reveal a marine wilderness comprised of an

extensive spur-and-groove coral complex and numerous well-developed

patch reefs. Each reef is populated by a vast array of Caribbean

tropical fish and invertebrates, with the fascinating addition of both

modern and historical shipwrecks to complete the tremendous sport dive

appeal of the region.

WRECKS AND REEFS.............

* Adelaide Baker - This historic shipwreck features a pair of huge

stacks in only 25 feet of water, a vivid reminder of the days when

steamships plied the Florida Keys.

* Sombrero Reef - This traditional favorite of the Marathon dive

portfolio is marked by a 140-foot lighted tower. Coral canyons and

archways provide refuge for schools of grunt and snapper while

solitary barracuda appear to stand sentinel.

* Coffin's Patch - This is not a single reef but a conglomerate of six

distinct patch reefs, each with a unique identity defined by a

predominant coral species. For example, at Pillar Coral Patch dozens

of intact pillar coral heads thrust their fuzzy polyps to snare

passing nutrients. Snorkelers will especially appreciate the shallow

elkhorn forests found throughout Coffin's Patch in less than 20 feet

of water.

* Delta Shoals - Here a vast network of coral canyons fan seaward from

a sandy shoal, offering wonderful opportunities for both diving and

snorkeling amid elkhorn, brain, and star coral heads.

* The Thunderbolt - This 188-foot ship is the queen of the Marathon

wreck fleet. Sunk intentionally as a dive attraction on March 3, 1986,

she now sits perfectly upright in 115 feet of water. Her

superstructure is coated with colorful sponge, coral, and hydroid,

providing refuge and sustenance to large angelfish, jacks, and a

variety of deep-water pelagic creatures.
