About Leslie Barroso

We raised our 2 kids in this home and have now relocated for work. We have loved our home and our community on Mount Desert Island and are excited to share our serene Bar Harbor oasis, far from the cruise ship crowds, hotel and B & B traffic but still in close proximity to all the action the island provides.

Leslie Barroso purchased this house in 1995

Why Leslie Barroso chose Mount Desert Island

Heartwood Home was designed, built and furnished by us to hold our family close. The great room allows the cook to be with family members and guests while they're watching TV, doing puzzles and games at the large dining table or listening to music. The surrounding neighborhood is conducive to walks on a low traffic road, safe for children and pets. There are bike riding and hiking areas for the whole family, and lots of play space for children.

What makes this house unique

The unique benefits of staying at Heartwood Home are total comfort without the summer crowds of an in-town location. We are located in the center of Mount Desert Island giving occupants the convenience of an easy commute to all the towns, restaurants and sites on the island.

Beautiful, clean, well equipped and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

First things first- cleanliness...Two words: duvet Covers!! I was thrilled to see all the beds had clean duvets instead of blankets that can't be washed. The house was super clean!.

The house is beyond charming, The floor to ceiling windows truly make the atmosphere at the house... you feel You are in the woods at all Times.

Location is gorgeous and very private.

The home is amazingly equiped with anything you may want: books of all

Kinds, DVD, music, smart TV, games, even video games......Wifi works great.

There are tons of extra pillows, blankets and towels. There are no beach/lake towels or extra sheets (enough for the beds but not extra)-- so if you think you'll need--either ask the owner in advance or bring your own.

Heartwood Home

Renters beware of this owner! They will not return your damage deposit in a timely manner if at all. Our experience was good until I asked about the return of my damage deposit then the owner disappeared and would not return my calls. There is no excuse for this action. My wife and I are a retired couple and we do not make a habit of tearing rentals up or taking items from the rental. This owner sent me an email 4 days after we left the property saying all was okay with the house and my deposit would be mailed the next day and that was 3 weeks ago. It's a shame that this rental was so nice until one has to deal with the owner. In addition to not returning my damage deposit the house was advertised as having internet which was spotty at best and there is no cell phone reception in the house. Both of these should have been mentioned by the owner in the ad on VRBO. When I called the property manager about the internet she told me to call a local computer store that they may be able to help me, That should have been taken care of by the mamager and not a computer store I would have to pay for them to come out. My experience was a wonderful one until money seemed to become an issue with this owner. I WOULD NEVER RENT THIS RENTAL AGAIN SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE INTERACTION WITH OR LACK OF WITH THE OWNER! There is simply no reason to hold my deposit so long. There were renters coming in behind us so I know the owner has to know that all was in order with the rental and thus NO REASON WHATSOEVER to withold my deposit.

Owner's Response: Our rental contract clearly states that we will send the refundable damage deposit back to our guests 2 weeks after departure from Heartwood Home. This renter received his damage deposit 16 days after departure; allowing for mail time, this was within the stated time. I regret the misunderstanding and apologize for the worry the process caused. This guest left our house in perfect condition as have all of our guests, and his deposit was completely refunded. The internet service has worked for me when I spend time at the house, and I had not been informed of any problem with the internet prior to reading this review. I will investigate the matter and do what I can to improve it. I am completely aware that there is very little to no cell phone reception at Heartwood Home, which is why we maintain a landline. In fact, cell service on Mount Desert Island is sketchy in many places because cell towers are not favored by local residents in their neighborhoods or in Acadia National Park.

Beautiful, relaxing, convenient and memorable

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was one of the most memorable and lovely vacations our family has had in many years. The kitchen was full of fresh basic spices, and was well appointed for cooking meals for a large family. The house was clean and set up to allow for each person to have their own private space, then a great room for all to come together and eat, sit and relax, watch TV or play games. There's a huge table that we could all sit at comfortably for meals and games. There is a large number of great DVD's, CD's and games. The wooded surroundings offered perfect tranquility and beauty and a great place for the kids to run, play and adventure. We would recommend Heartwood Home to any who want to be a short driving distance from all parts of Mount Desert Island but who want a private oasis, away from the crowds of Bar Harbor!

Lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our mini reunion so much. The home was comfortable and the kitchen was easy to work in. We were eight adults and there was plenty of room to visit comfortably.

The internet was inconsistent so we visited a few great cafes in town to do work. The location was lovely but a car was essential. As a result we made a lot of coffee and snacks!

Access to beautiful natural resources and great dining was pretty simple. The house was well maintained and clean. Comfortable beds and well appointed kitchen. Lots of books etc. short on towels but easy enough to do laundry.

I would recommend Heartwood Home. Best for folks who don't mind a bit of driving to get places. Quiet and restful.

BEAUTIFUL, QUIET VACATION HEADQUARTER!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to stay near Bar Harbor but not in the noisy/crowded area. I found Heartwood Home at our favvy 'find a vacation home' website which is VRBO. HH (as I refer to Heartwood Home) was within 15 minutes of just about every place you want to visit. The house itself is full of everything one would need for a staycation (we dined out almost all meals, but it was nice to know we could've prepared a wonderful meal in their kitchen).

The touches and variety of art work were awesome! There are any DVDs, CDs, games, that you can vacation there, get snowed in, and stay busy the whole time!

The owner is always available if needed.

Lovely place to make your base for a vacation in Bar Harbor/Acadia!

Great House, Great Location.

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to stay for a week long trip to Maine. Very comfortable for our extended family of 3 adults and 6 teenagers. The location was great; Easy to find, very close to entrances to the park, and downtown Bar Harbor. Well stocked kitchen and a great fire pit nestled in the wooded yard provided plenty of room for large family dinners. We would definitely stay here again!
