About Leslie Barroso
We raised our 2 kids in this home and have now relocated for work. We have loved our home and our community on Mount Desert Island and are excited to share our serene Bar Harbor oasis, far from the cruise ship crowds, hotel and B & B traffic but still in close proximity to all the action the island provides.
Leslie Barroso purchased this House in 1995
Why Leslie Barroso chose Bar Harbor
Heartwood Home was designed, built and furnished by us to hold our family close. The great room allows the cook to be with family members and guests while they're watching TV, doing puzzles and games at the large dining table or listening to music. The surrounding neighborhood is conducive to walks on a low traffic road, safe for children and pets. There are bike riding and hiking areas for the whole family, and lots of play space for children.
What makes this House unique
The unique benefits of staying at Heartwood Home are total comfort without the summer crowds of an in-town location. We are located in the center of Mount Desert Island giving occupants the convenience of an easy commute to all the towns, restaurants and sites on the island.
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great stay with friends and family!
The Heartwood Home is a beautiful, clean, well kept home. We were able to get anywhere on the island from this centrally located house! Will absolutely be coming back again.
Great location for Acadia. Easy to get to places with a short drive.
Heartwood House is perfectly located for a relaxing vacation close to all the attractions.
We were very comfortable here! The house is very quiet and didn't feel at all like there were 6 of us living in it for a week. It's well equipped and convenient for unpacking, with plenty of closets and empty furniture pieces to put personal belongings in for the week. We loved having the huge table for meals and working on 2 of the many puzzles that are available. We made use of the grill for a couple of meals and also cooked some lobsters that were brought back from a fishing trip. (Highly recommend Acadian Fishing Tours) The location of this house is perfect if you want someplace quiet to escape to after battling traffic and crowds on your adventures of the day. We heard no traffic except the garbage truck which stops on Wednesday. There are hiking trails and short pleasant walks around the property and a nearby pond for swimming. Cell phone service is sketchy at best but we had great internet service the whole week. The tv was a little challenging, but once it was figured out (end of the week) there's cable for anything you'd want. In the kitchen if you're planning to do meals, bring a griddle if you want pancakes. I would take my electric frying pan next time. The stove is a bit unpredictable. Maybe it's because we weren't used to it but I got uneven heat on the cooktop. Either it was glowing red hot or just on a simmer. Also, make sure the oven is on convection bake and not just bake. We loved the great variety of dishes in the cupboards. Plenty of serving pieces....that huge white bowl! We used it almost every meal! 😊
Brand new recliner in the living room! The sectional couch is getting a little tired but comfortable enough. The kitchen chairs, quite frankly are quite uncomfortable for any length of sitting. Working on puzzles, playing board games etc....grab a pillow. Even with the seemingly negative thoughts, We would definitely stay here again if given the opportunity. A great home base for a week stay!
Our 4th stay at Heartwood
This property has become a home away from home for us. It's comfortable and very well stocked. Great location close to bar harbor. Mount desert Island is one of the most beautiful destinations in earth. Hope to return many more times.
Heartwood Home is a wonderful base with so many additional touches
We loved our stay at Heartwood Home. The owners have included so many additional things to make a stay perfect. It is close enough to Bar Harbor to make a trip into town easy. And the park is just a few minutes away. We spent our days hiking and seeing Acadia National Park and in the evenings, we had dinner at the house. The house had all the things needed to be comfortable and able to easily have a meal. The owners have provided books, maps, suggestions on trails, as well as restaurants. All were appreciated and used. My husband read one of the many interesting books they have in the house during our 8 day stay. The fire pit was so much fun and they had everything needed from chairs to comfortably sit around the fire to the makings for smores!. The furniture and beds were very comfortable and the location is very quiet and private. The kitchen had everything needed. The house is just as it is pictured in the photos. They had plenty of the basics for cooking - flour, sugar, salt, pepper, spices, coffee, filters and provided the start up on paper goods. We did not find one thing that was negative. The house is very clean and the washer and dryer allowed us to come home "clean" where all we had to do was take the clothes out of the suitcase, which is always a plus! We would definitely stay here again if we visit Acadia.
Perfectly appointed Bar Harbor getaway house
We had the most wonderful time at Heartwood Home. The house contains everything one needs for a comfortable stay, and the owners' advice and tips are spot-on. The location is nicely removed from busy Bar Harbor, but very conveniently located to get to town or access gorgeous Acadia National Park. I've seen that other reviewers had internet issues, but we had no trouble with the wifi and were able to do a little work (unfortunately!) while on vacation. We were grateful for this dog-friendly home, allowing us to bring our family Vizsla on vacation with us! Overall, everything was perfect and we can't wait to return.
All of Acadia National Park is at your doorstep. Within walking distance of the house are 2 little known trails owned by the town of Bar Harbor and Friends of Acadia Land Trust that are excellent for hiking, trail running and dog walking (leashes optional for well behaved dogs). The house is well equipped for a family and is equidistant to all major towns on the island. Areas that are within a short distance are Salsbury Cove, Hulls Cove, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Otter Creek, Town Hill, Bass Harbor, Manset, Pretty Marsh and Bar Harbor.
