About the host
Hosted by Sarah Dean
I have always been drawn to places that create a true sense of pause, where you can step out of the noise of everyday life and reconnect with what matters. Travel has always been a big part of my life, and I’ve stayed in everything from boutique hotels to small, thoughtfully run homes. The places that have stuck with me most weren’t just beautiful, they felt intentional, calming, and easy to settle into.
That’s exactly what I set out to create here. We designed this home to be our retreat from the city. Every decision, from the layout to the sauna experience, was made with the goal of slowing down and restoring peace.
As a host, I care deeply about the details that shape a stay like clear communication, and a space that feels even better in person than it does in photos. My goal is simple: to create the kind of place you’ll want to return to.
Why they chose this property
This part of Whidbey offers something that’s increasingly hard to find: privacy, natural beauty, and a sense of quiet, all without feeling remote or disconnected.
You’re surrounded by trees and overlooking the water, with views that shift throughout the day; from soft, misty mornings to clear views of Mount Baker and the Cascades. It feels tucked away, but you’re still just a short drive from Coupeville and Oak Harbor, one of the most charming towns on the island, as well as beaches, state parks, and everything you need for a comfortable stay.
What I love most is the balance. You can spend the day exploring, walking along the shoreline, visiting local shops, or hiking in Deception Pass, and then come back to a space that feels completely your own. It’s peaceful in a way that invites you to slow down, but never boring.
What makes this property unique
What sets this home apart is the combination of elevated design, privacy, and a true sense of experience, not just a place to stay, but a place to reset.
The standout feature is the 8-person redwood sauna with panoramic windows, paired with an outdoor shower for a hot and cold experience that feels immersive and restorative. It’s rare to find something like this in a private home, especially with this level of connection to the surrounding nature.
Beyond that, the home is intentionally designed to bring the outdoors in. Expansive windows frame sweeping views of the harbor, the Sound, Mount Baker, and the Cascades, while the open layout and natural light create a sense of calm and ease throughout.
It’s also the combination of seclusion and accessibility that makes it special. You feel completely tucked away, yet you’re minutes from some of the best parts of Whidbey. It’s a balance that’s hard to replicate, and one that keeps us coming back.
