Why Jason Miller chose Estes Park

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Great views of mountains all around us and so close to town it is just awesome. We have been looking at Estes for a while now. This property came up for sale, so we took a family vote. With a 16 yr old daughter and 14 yr old son, I thought that I would have a challenge ahead of me with convincing them. Low and behold, 100% = Let's go to Colorado!

This property previously was The Black Dog Inn Bed & Breakfast. The Millers will be living in the main home and renting out the unattached units around the 1 acre rustic property. We are a very FRIENDLY property. We do not judge by gender race, sexuality, or political views. We all just want to Get Along. This property previously was The Black Dog Inn Bed & Breakfast. The Millers will be living in the main home and renting out the unattached units around the 1 acre rustic property.

What makes this studio unique

Located High above the town of Estes Park, our wooded acre has a commanding view of Lumpy Ridge(a well known rock climbing formation), Mummy Range, and Mt. Olympus. We are only a short 5 minute drive to Rocky Mountain National Park. The footpath in front of the property connects with the scenic Riverwalk and also the 4 mile path around Lake Estes. This property has Luxury accommodations at affordable rates. We can see clear views of Lumpy Ridge, Twin Owls, Mt Olympus, and even Mummy Mountain. We are only 1/2 mile from town. We love to hike and spend time outdoors in the wonders of Nature. There are literally hundreds of hiking and climbing trails minutes from our front door. Longs Peak, Twin Owls, Mummy Mountain, Twin Sisters, Lilly Mountain, etc.

Great Place and Great Owners

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I can't say enough about Joanne and the way her and her husband run their business. They are so kind and genuinely care for people. Their property is fantastic, close to everything you would want to do in Estes. We particularly enjoyed that they made lists of places to eat that were their favorites to make it an easy choice. They even have give you a name of a food courier so you can order in and enjoy a lazy night by the fire place.

The highlight was the 50+ elk that came from across the street! It was amazing!

Thank you both so much for the wonderful visit. We will be back!

5 star owners, 3 star quality of stay

  • 3 of 5

Firstly, the owners were great with accommodation and responsiveness. Hate to leave a 3 star review but these are the things to note when looking to stay at Mummy Mtn:

The bed is a full, not a queen. This should be front and center in the description of this room. At a minimum for a rental, the bed should be queen and even that is enough to make most guests think twice.

The door to the bathroom, just outside the full bed mind you, is glass. So be prepared to have little privacy for bathroom stops.

There is no control for central air or heat. As a supplemental source of heat there is a gas fireplace with probably a high and low switch on it, but it was not functioning when we were there. Props to the owner for giving us money off our rental price and providing a small space heater that worked really well, but this whole setup is at best 3 star accommodations.

Lastly, the shower is really meant for little people. Including the commode. And the quality at both are less than nice. Literally $125 at Home Depot and a couple hours of time and the toilet and the shower handles and head could've easily been upgraded. But the whole bathroom is really 2 star quality, for a 4 star price.

Owner's Response: Hi Shari! Thanks you for your review. I appreciate your kind words towards us owners, but I do need to explain a couple of things for the review. First the bed is a queen size bed, I just bought all the mattresses in July. So that is the right description. I have the receipts. 2nd as we explained on the phone , we just had a guest check out that morning and the gas valve on the fireplace wasn't working and our maintanence man had to order the part. That is why I gave you back some money, because I felt really bad about that. Normally when this is working you have control of the heat in your unit. Other wise the unit is set at 68 degrees which is stated on a laminated note card. 3rd we just put a new shower door on 4 days ago and have recently painted it too. We have new handles that are getting put on this week. As far as the glass door to the bathroom, unless your looking in through the glass, there is privacy. This is a couples suite! Again thanks for choosing us for your stay, I hope you had a wonderful time in Estes Park!!

Good Overall, but not perfect

  • 4 of 5

First off, the place was really well done. I can tell the owners know how to make a place look and feel nice. They did a great job with the space available. The parking was great, the bed was comfortable and the overall place was very nice. But, I did miss having no kitchen. The owner makes if very clear there is no kitchen, so no complaints on that point. I just want people to realize that this place is more similar to a nice hotel room, than a traditional VRBO rental. There are NO cabinets and no counter space to put food, etc. Like a hotel room. But, it does have a nice Jacuzzi tub and a gas fireplace. So, nicer than most hotels. And, the parking and atmosphere is much better than a hotel. You do share some walls with neighbors so there is some noise. The only other real issue with this place is that I could not find a way to control the furnace. The heat was running pretty strong the first night I was there and it was too hot to sleep, but I couldn't find a way to adjust it. I looked everywhere. The next few nights, the temp. was fine. BTW- if you look at Hotel prices in Estes, I found this place to be the same or less and so I do believe this is a much better value and desirable place to stay than a hotel.

Owner's Response: Jeff Thank you for your review. I appreciate you recognizing that we not comparable to a hotel room. Pros and Cons for sure. We take pride in our place and the decor. As far as the heat, I have note in the room stating that the heat is controlled by the main unit. In the summer months we don't have it turned on. In the cooler months we keep it at 68 degrees. The fire place puts out heat for the guests who like to be warmer. I noticed when I cleaned the room the note was at the bottom of some magazines. My apologies for that. Again thanks for the nice review . Jason and Joanne Miller

We absolutly loved it. Bed was a little hard for our liking but the home was gorgeous. Jason is very very nice along with his wife. Anytime we needed anything they were right there. The place was very clean and well kept. Really made us feel like home.

Great Little Suite!

  • 4 of 5

As advertised, the Miller's Mummy Mountain suite was small but comfortable. We knew going in that the layout of the suite was tidily arranged, with a microwave and small fridge doing what little food duty we wanted to do. I sleep sitting up, and the suite had a superb recliner perched directly in front of the fireplace which just happened to have a large flat screed TV above the micro. My wife said the queen bed in the bedroom had a superb mattress, and the well laid out bathroom was adjacent to the foot of the bed. And although the suite is located just off of South St. Vrains Street, a pretty busy route just off Hiway 36, the traffic noise was almost nonexistent after dark. A ceiling fan high over the living room kept the cool air wafting through two open windows stirred precisely as we wanted with a variable speed control.

Mummy Mountain Suite was perfect for two retirees with a small dog whose real needs were well taken care of. We would highly recommend to anyone with minimal space requirements but wanting a great location to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain Park to give the Millers a call. Great folks with a very nice place to stay!
