About John Ferrante

Aloha, my name is John and I am the proud owner of this beautiful new home.. Right now, all the reviews are from the "old home" but I encourage you to read previous guests to get a good idea of the quality of vacation rental I try to provide. I look forward working with you directly to insure a great vacation experience on Kauai and at Kiahuna Golf Village.

John Ferrante purchased this house in 2013

Why John Ferrante chose Poipu

Kiahuna Golf Village is considered to be one of the most beautiful neighborhoods on the South shore of Kauai. The mature tropical landscaping, estate sized parcels, and privacy between homes lends itself to a unique vacation for you and your family in a truly Hawaiian paradise environment. This particular home is on one of the largest lots in Kiahuna Golf Village, with an estate sized presence. All the rooms face large green belt open space surrounded by plumeria and palm trees with the ever-blue Hawaiian ocean in the distance. You will spend most of your time outdoors on the spacious lanais stepping in and out of the large tropical pool swimming past the lava rock waterfall. You will love this property.

What makes this house unique

Kiahuna Golf Village is in the center of the Kiahuna golf course just 3/4 mile from the ocean and from the best restaurants and beaches of Poipu. We think the sunny south shore of Kauai is the optimum location to base your Kauai vacation with central and easy access to Lihue, the West and the North Shore.

Fabulous updated beautiful home in a peaceful setting with a lovely view!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home to celebrate the holidays! It has recently been updated and everything is absolutely lovely! The kitchen appliances are all top notch SS, beautiful countertops, fully stocked, and was easy for all of us to work in. It has beautiful Island style furnishings, fun and unique sinks in all 3 bathrooms, and the artwork is stunning! The tradewinds keep the home comfortable, It has a lot of windows and sliding glass doors to accommodate the air flow, all with screens. We spent most of our time sitting outside on the covered patio. The pictures of the view do not do it justice! You have to see it to fully appreciate it! Beautiful sunsets! Plenty of beach towels, coolers, beach chairs and boogie boards. A fabulous private outdoor shower to rinse off the sand when we got back to our Hawaiian home! The pool has a peaceful water feature and is solar heated. There is a bench built in it that I loved to sit on and relax to the peaceful setting, sip some champagne and watch the sunset. Lea met us at the house to show us around and was very responsive to any questions we had. John contacted me last summer to let me know that they were updating the house so it wouldn't look like the pictures that were posted at the time that we rented it. My goodness, they have done an amazing job! Fabulous taste! I would love to stay in their lovely home again. They were nice enough to allow us to stay there when it wasn't quite finished. It's fabulous now! I can't wait to see it when it is completed! This beautiful home is located close to restaurants, shopping and beaches. But it is in a quiet residential neighborhood on a lovely golf course surrounded by lovely homes. It is very private, you don't see your neighbors, just the beautiful view! Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with our family! Mahalo!

You get what you pay for is not always the case

  • 1 of 5

Typically when we travel we stay at hotels, but this was my 76 year old Mother in laws first time travailing out of the lower 48 and we wanted it to be special. We decided to spend the extra $$ and rent a home near the ocean. In retrospect, we should have save the money and stayed at a five star hotel.

The drive to the location was beautiful and the neighborhood was exactly what we had hoped for, we were sure at this point that we had made the right decision. And then we entered the home. As we opened the door we were greeted with a burst of very hot air that reeked of pesticides, so much that my wife could not stop choking. I entered the home, ( as my family waited outside )and started to try to open all the windows to let fresh air in. At least half of the windows were in such disrepair that you either couldn't open them our you were afraid of breaking them if you tried. After I aired the home out as much as we could I decided to look for the thermostat so that I could start cooling down the home, (which felt like a sauna at this point) only to find out that this home had no HVAC system, a detail left out when renting. Do to the lack of air conditioning I decided to open all the sliding doors as well, BIG mistake! The garbage from the previous renter was never hauled away and sat just a few feet outside the kitchen door, so now we were dealing with the overwhelming stench of rotting garbage and pesticides. The home was dated and not maintained very well. The home lacked the basic essentials needed such as towels and linens for everyone. We even ran out of toilet paper our first day of our 8 day stay. This home was advertised as having a washer and dryer , so we packed accordingly. On the second day we tried to do laundry but we discovered that the dryer was broken, I called the number that was left for house keeping and she informed me that the owner was made aware of the broken dryer after the last stay and that it should have been fixed. I then called the owner who acted as if this was the first he had heard of it. The dryer was fixed, but unfortunately it was 7 days later as we were literally walking out the door headed back home. We ended up having to purchase new clothes for all of us. To be fair to the owner he did offer to pay for any laundromat cost, but we had no desire to spend our limited time on the island at a laundromat. This was our first time using VRBO and will be our last time. I have more to say but I'm out of charecters.

Owner's Response: I can't even begin to think of a response to this unhappy guest. Please read all the other reviews of this home which average five stars. Maybe they were expecting the Hyatt Regency. Most homes on Kauai for rent do not have air conditioning as it is typically not necessary with our strong trade winds.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Hawaii. We went with our three adult children, 2 - year old boys and year old daughter. The house was perfect, plenty of spread out space for everyone, 10 minute walk to the beach and easy driving everywhere. The pool was a great place to relax after our daily activities and everything you needed was available. The landscape was amazing!!! Great location and great property!

10 Days in Kiahuna Paradise

  • 5 of 5

All the details about John Ferrante's house are absolutely accurate--you will enjoy every moment you stay there, as we did. We were only four, but spacious enough for more. Mom is 92, so the stairs for her could be avoided by using the kitchen door and downstairs bedroom. Plenty of bath towels, beach towels, bedding, starter supply of paper goods, good washer, dryer, dishwasher, etc. The kitchen is fabulous-lots of pots and pans, silverware, glassware, we ate many meals at home. We couldn't figure out how to use the gas BBQ, even with detailed written instructions, but our steaks and ribs were just great in the broiler. The living rooms are large, with comfortable seating and ceiling fans--plus the views from any room are spectacular. Now, the best part--the backyard and pool--quiet, peaceful, a fabulous feeling of isolation in this great neighborhood. (We even dreamed and collected flyers from the houses up for sale, should we happen to win at Powerball.) A wonderful view out towards the golf course, but the trees, landscaping and view of the ocean in the distance are mesmerizing. Rainbows across the sky-even a double rainbow-ordered up especially for us by the owner, I am sure, made us not feel the need to ever leave the yard. And oh, that pool and waterfall! Perfect temperature water, even in the evenings. Ceiling fans are in every room, thankfully, and you can open all the sliders for great breezes all day long when you are home. Close the curtains when you leave because you do get a lot of bright sun heat. There is an ice chest that we took with us when we left for excursions, just the right size for drinks and sandwiches. We recycled as much as we could before we left, easy ride just down off Poipu Road, so bring extra trash bags to separate.

John Ferrante, the owner, answered all my questions before our arrival, and even while we were there. He gave us several suggestions for fine dining close by. We tried Planation Gardens down the road in Poipu ( all delicious, but skip having steak there) and will save the others on his list for next year. We also tried his suggestion for lunch--Street Burger, in Kapaa. Loved it, once we found it, tucked between two other shops as you get into Kapaa from Poipu side. This is our third time renting off VRBO, we missed not being right on the beach this year but this is our favorite house and we might be back to this paradise next year for Mom's 93rd birthday trip. No better place, reserve now.

Beautiful Place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay. House fit our needs perfectly (5 adults, 1 child) with plenty room for everyone. It's located in a quite neighborhood with great views of the golf course. The pool was a big hit with everyone and my granddaughter loved running around the backyard! Only a few minutes from the Poipu Beach and easy access to the south and east sides of Kauai. The 100 pound tuna my son-in-law caught out of Port Allen made his day (and maybe his entire vacation.)

Enjoy the great outdoors

  • 4 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. 6 adults/ 3 couples add ample accommodation and amenities, but it is really the landscaping, outdoor privacy and the pool that make it. Even though there are neighbors, the design of the landscaping maximizes privacy while also providing views of a relatively unused golf course and distant view of the sea. It is a reasonable walk to shopping and restaurants and the beach is not much further, but assume you will need to be healthy and have a basic level of fitness to do that walk.

Some of the interior features such as curtains and window treatments are in need of maintenance or updating, otherwise everything works and there are plenty of options for entertaining with two separate lounge areas indoor, a large kitchen island, breakfast bar and dining table and of course plenty of outdoor seating. Poipu is on the hotter, drier side of the island, so be prepared for some indoor heat during the day, no air con. At night, temperatures are more comfortable and their is usually a breeze to cool the house.

Car: recommended

You are just minutes from two of Kauai’s best beaches, 'Shipwreck Beach' and the World famous 'Poipu Beach'. Poipu Beach has been voted 'Best Beach' in America by the Travel Channel and for good reason with so much to offer. Your children will love the calm waters, where they can explore the underwater world with a mask and snorkel. The small waves are good for beginning boogie borders but there’s a surfing area for those experienced surfers as well. Other frequent visitors to this beach are the beloved Hawaiian Monk Seals who come here to rest in the sun just like we do! The beach park has restrooms, showers, picnic tables and pavilions as well as a large lawn area with shade trees. It is also one of the very few beaches on the island with lifeguards. Other Activities: shopping, restaurants, kayaking, boating, shelling, wildlife viewing.

A drive to the north shore is approximately 1 hour, airport 20 minutes, and Lihue- the business and cultural shopping center of the island, 20 minutes.
