Secluded Mountain Ranch, Serene, Peaceful, Beautiful & ONLY 15 minutes to Cd'A!
This magnificent and spacious home has 6 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. The unique setting of this home is at the confluence of two streams and surrounded by pristine natural beauty to stir your heart. Like a painting come to life with romantic rock bridges, quaint stone steps and walls, lush pastures, fruit trees, flowers and jade-green ponds; this is a dream come true! This enchanting home is located at the gateway into the vast National Forest. This 150 Acre ranch is surrounded on three sides by U.S. Forest land; 2 1/2 Million Acres extending to Montana and Canada! There are deer, elk, moose, bear, wolves, bald eagles, wild turkeys, and ermine on or visiting this ranch; and we have maintained the property as a wildlife preserve. There are no visible neighbors and this is a place of serenity, peace and complete quiet except for nature!
The two streams are Marie Creek, which has high water in the Spring and early summer, along with several large pools of water and log waterfalls into mid-July. By early to mid-August, Marie Creek goes underground by the ranch. It continues to run above the ranch in the National Forest. Searchlight Creek runs the north-south length of the ranch and in front of the house. Searchlight Creek runs year round and is a perfect creek for children to play in the creek and the pools.
Home is 4,000 S.F with 6 Bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, 2 Stone Fireplaces and a great Western Decor!
Elk Mountain Ranch was homesteaded in 1908 and the Deed is signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, on display at ranch. The center of the current house was built in 1930, and retains much of the charm of that time period. The later additions are very western and rustic.
This family ranch was offered as a Vacation Rental beginning May 1, 2014 for the first time. The furnishings and décor are that of a high quality, Western motif reflective of the love we have for this beautiful ranch.
The ranch is 150 acres with access into the National Forest. You can pan for gold in the creek! We now have a fire pit and provide firewood for your use! You can bring your Mountain Bikes, ATV's, Snowmobiles or Cross Country Skis and stay for a fun-filled vacation summer or winter! We do provide sleds for our awesome sledding hill and snowshoes to use on the ranch or into the adjacent National Forest land. We now have 2 full size Tipis, beautifully hand painted with native designs which are great for photos, overnight sleeping, for children to play inside or for quiet meditation.
Elk Mountain Ranch is also a private trout hatchery comprised of three separate spring-fed ponds where they are raised from fingerlings to full size adult trout which in turn, spawn, and continue the cycle. We provide trout food for our guests for which the trout which put on a spectacular show! We allow absolutely no fishing on the ranch and breaking this rule will forfeit one's damage deposit. Only the bald eagles and osprey fish unhindered; and we want our guests to enjoy all this majesty of nature.

About Michael Dickson
Elk Mountain Ranch has been in our family for over 40 years. My Dad was a German Artistic Stone Mason as is evident at the ranch. Our family immensely enjoyed and loved living at the ranch. We enjoyed foreign guests who came and stayed at the ranch, and it was such a wonderful experience, we decided to officially offer the home as a Vacation Rental. My parents lived there into their late 80's, as it was such a healthy environment. The ranch is now a wildlife reserve and timber farm. We live a short distance away which is convenient for care-taking the home and property. When you stay there, you have the home all to yourself!
Michael Dickson purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1970
Why Michael Dickson chose Coeur d'Alene
Elk Mountain Ranch is one of the most unique and beautiful properties in the Northwest. We found it amazing to feel so remote, secluded and peaceful and yet we could commute into Coeur d'Alene in 15 minutes for Shopping, Groceries, Restaurants, Church, Social Activities, Art Shops, the City Beach, or Silverwood Theme Park. In the photo we are tubing on the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River which is just 25 minutes east, via Interstate 90.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
At Elk Mountain Ranch you can imagine it is 1906 and experience the peace and observe the wildlife just like the first pioneers did! ....If you'd rather golf at the World's only floating green, that is only 15 minutes away!....If you'd like a 'Cowboy steak' that is so huge you can't eat it all, that is 10 minutes away at the famous Wolf Lodge Inn & Steakhouse!

I have been renting different locations for women's retreats for over 17 years . This place was absolutely beautiful! Mike and Susan were so friendly. They had a fire going for us when we showed up and then showed us around the place. The property is absolutely breathtaking! I hope to go back in 2020!
The property was very clean and well kept. The view and space were amazing! We loved sitting around the fire pit outside. Susan and Mike are also great people to work with. We will be coming back!
What a great space for a large group - we had 4 couples. Plenty of room to spread out in the house, as well as communal space and dinning room. They have everything you need to enjoy the outdoor space, right up next to forest service land. From trout ponds, bald eagles, geese, deer and elk - plenty of wild life experiences. The place is very inviting with a well stocked pantry (spices / baking / marshmallows), as well as extra warm clothing should you be there in the cooler times of the year. We had a great out door fire pit experience looking at stars and roasting marshmallows. From great hosts to a great location - highly recommended.
Charming and Authentic
My family absolutely loved Elk Mountain Ranch. A lot of the reviews tell you about the activities available and the amenities, and they are all there. Everything you need to have a marvelous and meaningful time.
So let me tell you how Elk Mountain Lodge FEELS.
It feels like coming home. This is not one of those Western style places that’s been ‘tricked out’’ by an interior decorator to simulate the Western experience.
This is a wonderful, actual ranch that has been lovingly assembled over the generations. Charm! Authenticity! Homey! Comfortable!
Mike and Susan are incredibly generous to share this treasure.
Just as the gorgeous forest that surrounds the ranch, the running streams and wildlife have a timeless feel to them, so does Elk Mountain Ranch.
We couldn’t have asked for more.
We had plans to go to a fancy restaurant in Cœur d’Alene on our last night (we even had a gift certificate), but we couldn’t bear to be away. So we put another log on the fire, got out a board game and had a memorable last evening.
Our spirits were refreshed and our relationships renewed at Elk Mountain Ranch. We are already planning our return. ❤️
The property was absolutely gorgeous. The house had everything you could imagine.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Elk Mountain Ranch. Mike and Susan have anticipated guests wants and needs. There was a full playroom for kids as well as outdoor sports equipment, snow shoes, sleds, etc. The kitchen was stocked with anything you might need for preparing the perfect meal. The views from the great room are breath taking. It is a perfect place for family fun!
Beautiful solitude surrounded by nature.
We loved our time here. Susan and Mike were welcoming and amazing. If you want to get away and enjoy Gods creation. This is the place.
