About this property

The Weber House: a Mid-Century Modern Landmark

Experience one of Raleigh’s most celebrated mid‑century modern homes—a 1954 Bill Weber/ George Matsumoto design that made headlines when it was saved from demolition and moved across the city. Surrounded by glass, clean lines, and warm natural materials, you’ll stay in a living piece of architectural history, now open to overnight guests for the first time in 70 years. Centrally located near downtown Raleigh, restaurants, shopping, Lenovo Center, NCSU, Dix Park and Research Triangle Park.

Designed by Bill Weber in collaboration with George Matsumoto—the legendary Japanese‑American architect who helped make Raleigh a center of modernist design—this split‑level gem, featured in Architectural Record the year it was built, reflects Matsumoto’s award‑winning mastery of proportion, light, and the seamless connection between interior spaces and the natural landscape. The Weber House stands as a true mid‑century modern refuge where architectural history, thoughtful restoration, and natural serenity meet. Saved and restored in a labor of love by its current owners, the home embodies their deepened appreciation for the importance of historic preservation—something increasingly rare—and offers an especially meaningful stay for preservation enthusiasts and design lovers alike.

Stepping inside feels like entering a different rhythm of life. Sunlight pours through large windows, catching warm wood tones and original architectural details that have been carefully preserved. The home’s mid‑century character remains intact, yet the spaces feel fresh, comfortable, and quietly modern — a balance that honors the past without sacrificing ease.

The primary bedroom offers a king bed and a calming, minimalist retreat. A second bedroom with a queen bed provides its own cozy haven, while the loft — perched above the main living area — includes a comfortable queen pull‑out sofa for additional guests. With two full bathrooms, the home easily accommodates families, couples, or small groups seeking a peaceful getaway.

The fully equipped kitchen blends vintage charm with modern convenience, perfect for preparing a relaxed dinner after exploring Raleigh. High‑speed Google Fiber and two dedicated workspaces make the home ideal for remote workers who want a change of scenery without compromising productivity.

Outside, the private deck feels like a treehouse — a quiet perch surrounded by greenery. Enjoy morning coffee in the stillness, grill dinner as the sun filters through the leaves, or simply listen to the breeze move through the woods. An EV charger in the carport adds a thoughtful touch for eco‑minded travelers.

Despite its secluded feel, the Weber House sits in a peaceful family neighborhood just minutes from NCSU, Dix Park, Raleigh’s greenway and vibrant downtown. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in mid‑century design, reconnect with nature, and experience firsthand the beauty of a home that was lovingly saved from disappearing.

A stay here isn’t just a getaway — it’s a chance to live inside a piece of Raleigh’s architectural story, preserved with care and shared with guests who appreciate the value of keeping history alive.

This home was just as perfect as the pictures show online! The location was convenient and the house is in a quiet, pretty neighborhood. The hosts were great at communicating and making sure we had everything we needed. The patio has seating outside and a beautiful wooded view that can be seen from most of the house which makes you feel like you’re in the woods. The history of the house made it an opportunity to stay at a unique place with a really cool story. Cannot recommend enough!

What makes this property unique

We first admired the Weber House in another neighborhood where we lived from 2002 to 2020. We moved to a MCM house that had an empty lot next door and heard in 2023 that the Weber House was going to be demolished. So we looked into moving it to the lot next door and opened it up to short term rentals in December 2025!
