Overview

About the property

3 BR, 2 BA. Walk To Old Town. Dunes & Ocean A Short Drive

This home harkens back to the times of the family playing games and sitting around the radio. This is not a showcase home, nor a modern home (though it has modern conveniences), but that is the charm! It is an easy 8 minute walk into the heart of old town Florence. Enjoy many excellent restaurants, darling gift shops, antique shops, historical museum and event center.

Pets are ok! We love our dogs and hope that you will enjoy yours here too. There is plenty of unfenced yard for well-behaved dogs with a small enclosure for potty. Even the big dogs that are usually excluded-they are welcome here! We trust that you wouldn't want to travel with a crazed animal, so please be thoughtful about bringing a dog that may be destructive.

Original hardwood floors, wood walls, picture rail and period furniture remind you of days gone by. With all the modern furnishings, it has everything one could need including wifi internet and cable. Each bedroom has a queen bed, closet, wardrobe and dresser. The bathrooms are 3 piece complete with shower, and one in the original claw foot tub. The kitchen is fully equipped and contains a dishwasher, microwave, double oven and 2 burner stove. There is a very large and tall detached 2 car garage to store your toys and deep carport for another 2 vehicles but limited other parking.

Quiet neighborhood with few neighbors on a seldom used street, except for the church on Sunday, which owns the lot next to the home.

New owners bought the home in Nov. 2013 with plans to improve the home including refinishing the hardwood floor, remodeling the kitchen back to the original and exterior paint, but for now, it's very cozy.

Bring your walking shoes: old town Florence is 5 easy blocks away. Bring your atv's: there is plenty of riding area 8 minutes to the south. Bring your boat: fish the lakes, the Siuslaw River and of course the ocean; kayak or ski one of the many lakes all minutes away. Bring your bikes: mountain bike cummings creek or take the north fork siuslaw forest road 50 mile loop. By car: drive to honeyman state park, heceta head lighthouse, sea lion caves, hike the hobbit trail to the beach, crab at the crab dock on the south jetty, golf, horseback ride, rent a dune buggy, take a coastal biplane tour or go to the casino all within 15 minutes.

About Sue Griffin

Dad and I purchased this home as a get-away from interior Oregon. We love the old charm of this home and the town of Florence. We like to try many restaurants and take the dogs for a daily trip to the ocean beaches.

Sue Griffin purchased this house in 2013

Why Sue Griffin chose Central Coast

We picked this home because it's just a stroll to Old Town!

What makes this house unique

We have always enjoyed family time eating and playing games, and this home brings us back to the feeling of an old family home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you. All the provisions you left were so helpful. Ample bedding, books, games etc. were all great bonuses. Plus everything in the storage closets. Loved the house! Great job decorating!

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Griffin House for a little over 2 months while waiting to move into our long term home, moving from IL and not bringing anything at all besides our clothing and few personal items. The house had everything that we needed! The jetty access is just a short drive away to a beach with tons of driftwood...my favorite spot in Florence. Another major plus are the neighbors..they were so warm and welcoming we were sad to leave them. From booking the home to the day we checked out everything was very smooth..and Sue was very helpful in answering all my questions. I would recommend a stay at The Griffin house no matter if staying a couple days to a month.

Florence

  • 3 of 5

The house was roomy and quaintly decorated. There were plenty of supplies such as soaps, shampoo, cleaning products, paper products, and even kitchen staples. However, we did have a few problems. The wall heater in the living room wasn't working. So even though there were space heaters in the house, it was a bit cold. We were there in March...very rainy and damp. The appliances were very old and the refrigerator went out. We needed to clean up a flood in the kitchen three separate times before a new refrigerator was delivered. And there was a broken window in one of the bedrooms. The owner called us the day after we arrived and let us know that the window was being replaced within the next couple of days. The heater would be replaced as soon as the part came in, which took about a week and a half. When the refrigerator broke down, we called right away and she was good about replacing it, but it still took a week to get there.

We rented the house for a month. In spite of all that happened, we feel the owner was very responsive to our needs. She made every effort to make us comfortable and was always cordial. We would rent from her again. She did everything that was within her power to do. The house is within walking distance to Old Town Florence, which is lovely. There are loads of games, bikes, BBQ, fishing equipment, and even a fenced area for the pups.

Florence, Oregon, in April, Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Griffin House for a week in April was everything we had expected, and then some. Sue made the rental process easy from our initial inquiries through the time of our departure. She was accommodating to our specific requests and responded quickly to our questions. Griffin House has personality with it's old-time charm as well as modern amenities. The beds are comfy, bedding and towels clean and fresh. We loved the location of the rental house with shopping and dining nearby in historic Old Town and the ocean only a couple minutes away. We especially enjoyed the spectacular sunset views during an evening walk out onto the jetty. We hope to return to Griffin House again when we are in Florence. Thank you, Sue, for making our vacation an ideal week in Florence. (And yes, the weather was gorgeous too!)

The Best In Florence

  • 5 of 5

We recently went ot Florence for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend. We just had a deal on a place fall through at the last minute so we were a little down in the dumps. We went on VRBO and found Sue and her lovely vintage home for the weekend. She was able to get us in on a very tight schedule and time frame. When we got to the house everything was ready and was absolutely wonderful. We had a great time and the house was in great shape with the newer addition of the bathroom we had plenty of room for the seven of us to do our morning things to get ready for the day. The home was stocked with everything that you might need or already have in your own home. For example we brought wine and no opener well the house has at least two of them! Great we thought! Forget your leash for the dog or they chew through it nor problem they have them there. Awesome! I know your thinking that what if I want to bring home food and cook? The appliances work great we cooked all weekend we were there. This is truly a great place to stay and we will be back very soon. Sue and the gang have domne a greta job of offering a rental that goes above and beyond! I am in customer service and it is refreshing to see people like Sue go above and beyond. Thank you very much and tell the neighbors know theyre hospitality was also very generous. Thanks again
