Charming NC Mountainside & Riverside Cabin In A Serene Vineyard Setting

Overview

About the property

1 Room, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

The Lodgings at Roaring River Vineyards has three rental units. The Serendipity Cabin, and the 3-room suites in the larger cabin (we call it the lodge). Serendipity is a cozy little cabin with an upscale mountain decor. Our guests really love it and it stays rented almost every weekend. IN THE EVENT THAT IT IS UNAVAILABLE OR IF YOU NEED SLIGHTLY LARGER ACCOMMODATIONS WE RECOMMEND OUR TWO OTHER UNITS: ASPEN: 437203 or BIRCH 437950.

BACK TO THE SERENDIPITY CABIN (513211)

The unit has an (1) open room +1 bathroom. The open space has a Queen size bed, in-suite fully equipped kitchenette, SS appliances, flat screen TV, and compact dinette set. Please note -- this unit does not have a living room. There is, however, a side deck with a bistro dinette set, private BBQ grill, and a covered porch with two rocking chairs. The river views are from the deck. This cabin is ideal for romantic getaways, a weekend spent outdoors either wine tasting, hiking Stone Mountain, or enjoying "private" fishing on the Roaring River. If you plan to spend a lot of time indoors, or want to watch a lot of TV - you will definitely need a living room. In that case I would recommend the 2-room suites - either the Aspen unit (43720)3 or the Birch unit (437950)). These are bigger units that have a wrap-around porch, indoor and outdoor sofas, fire pit, and they overlook the river literally just 6 feet away from the edge of the bluff that drops down to the river. These units are very close to the river, up about 10 to 14 feet, but about 6 feet away from the edt of the bluff that drops down to the river. This is also a great place for extended stays of a week or more. These units are very comfortable and well appointed for the most discriminating taste.

Back to the cabin-- it is also riverside, situated near our outdoor event venue, the side deck has the river views. Guests love the privacy this unit offers- as it is away from the other units.

Amenities included WiFi, TV, and many on-site attractions such as: Bocce ball court, horseshoe court, croquet, corn-hole toss, private fishing year-round, bow and arrow hunting permitted for guests, riverside beach and swimming hole that our guests love in the summer, and picnic amongst the grapevines.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS:

The vineyards also offers an event venue that can host weddings, private parties, business events, and much more. When someone books a wedding they also book the vacation rentals and make a weekend out of it. This way, events do not affect our rental guests since they would not be on site. We are in the heart of wine country surrounded by many wineries, near the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a few miles from Stone Mountain State Park. We are also in the process of building our wine tasting room which is due to be completed by January 2016 and to that extent, have been making wine for the last three years. We will not be able to sell wine until wilkes county deems the building to be completed. Then we will have to apply for a liquor's license. We will be there in no time!

The area is very historic with many museums, music events such as Merle Fest,(3rd week in April) and historic buildings such as grist mills and much more. The area is very well known for its scenic vistas, a flourishing film industry, foliage viewing, and much more. Please see the NC Tourism website, NC Visitor Center, Wilkes Chamber of Commerce, Walker Center In Wilkesboro, and for more information about the area.

About Josephine Silvey, Thomas Silvey

Josephine speaking: I was born in France of German parents, and moved to the States when I was 15 years. Graduated from San Jose State University with BS in Business Administration. I worked for IBM for 17 years, and was transferred about every 3 years to a new location, including oversees assignment in Tokyo, Japan for 3 years. After that, I worked in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) at First Union Bank (now Wells Fargo Bank). My husband and I now live on our vineyard.

Tom Silvey's Speaking: I am from Harriman, TN and grew up on my beloved mountains, overlooking a beautiful lake. I graduated from Le Tourneau University with an Engineering degree, and have been working for Westinghouse which later became Siemens. I had to work on numerous projects which required extensive travel abroad (China, Japan and in Europe). I developed a taste for traveling and was happy that Josephine loves traveling as well.

Josephine and I met in Charlotte and got married in 1993. Both of us were married before so we blended our children into our new family (Josephine‘s daughter and my two daughters and son). We are now empty-nesters, but the family keeps growing with the addition of grandchildren, three grand-sons, and two grand-daughters so fa. Since acquiring the vineyard, we have traveled extensively to wine growing regions to develop our knowledge of viticulture and enology. Our knowledge must include best practices used, not only in our region, but also in other parts of the world.

Josephine Silvey, Thomas Silvey purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Josephine Silvey, Thomas Silvey chose Blue Ridge Mountains

The setting of this property is gorgeous and reminiscent of French riverbank hillside vineyards. We knew we had a gem as soon as we saw the property, and soon after that the dream was born. We wanted others to discover what we had found, an area rich in history, of moonshine and NASCAR, close to Stone Mountain State Park, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and dotted with many wineries along the NC Wine Route. People come here from all over to enjoy the foliage in fall, to hike, fish, hunt, and partake of all the things the region has to offer. We are in the country but close to both Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte and to the VA border. Recommended for adults, romantic getaways, sports retreat, and economic getaway.

What makes this cabin unique

You have the opportunity to stay in lovely cabin just feet from the river. The cabin is located on on a 50-acre estate, at the Roaring River Vineyards. You enter the property through an elegant stone entrance, with two fishing ponds on each side, and see the vineyards going up the slope in front of you. You follow the directional signs up a the access road, first passing a large mountain home, and the event venue called 'The Gathering Place' to the cabin on the river bank literally just 20 feet away from the Roaring River. Nearby are the ruins of the dam that served the gristmill and sawmill across the river. The miller's cabin (17930 is still intact and we hope to refurbish it in the near future. The Gathering Place's indoor site can be rented for events or for guest use when they rent all the available units and wish to eat and spend time together. The beauty of the setting slowly registers with you, as you take in the view. You hear the sounds of the river cascading over large boulders, and the next thing you know you’re fishing and hoping to catch that “prize winning” trout. If you are not in the mood for fishing you might decide instead to relax on the sandy river beach, catch-up on some reading, cool-off in the river or picnic amongst the grapevines. Nature lovers will enjoy the sightings of the abundant wildlife. You can do whatever you want when you are here. You can just relax or you may want to engage in as many activities as the region has to offer, it’s up to you! One of the benefits of being on a private estate is that you can fish on our private ponds year-round without a license. We also allow bow-hunting on our grounds. For those of you “wannabe” grape-growers, you can pick the grapes at harvest time or help crush grapes. We are open to that! Who knows, there may be a budding winemaker among you. Also, you are in the heart of wine country and can easily go from one winery to another, enjoy Stone Mountain State Park with all it has to offer.

Beautiful and relaxing, a perfect romantic retreat!!

  • 5 of 5

Roaring River Vineyards is beautiful and our stay was amazing. We arrived on Friday and did a wine tasting. Doug at the bar was friendly and knowledgeable and we met some locals who have us some great ideas for our stay. Tom gave us a tour and also had some great ideas for a Saturday plan. The Gathering Place is a beautiful extra living space with a huge deck and and outdoor fireplace. The cabin was cozy and well stocked. We drank delicious wine and sat by the gurgling river. Saturday we drove over to Jones Van Drehle winery and then to West Jefferson. Both were awesome. Tom had prepared a fire for the evening so when we got a k we lit it and sat by the fire/river and looked at stars. Overall we could not have asked for better hosts or a more beautiful setting. We will definitely be back.

The winery setting is so inviting; the river, the wine and outdoor deck provides a very relaxing ambiance. The cabin is intimate and well equipped. Tom and Josephine, our hosts as well as Chef Daniel are delightful, accommodating to our every whim. Wine, Fishing, Hiking, Hot Tub and more.....We can't wait to return for another stay at this beautiful winery and to enjoy the dinner menu ( coming soon).

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The place was beautiful! We stayed in the Serendipity Cabin which was well appointed and comfortable. A great place to stay while visiting the nearby attractions. Great wine country! We will definitely be returning. We did have an issue with AT&T cell coverage. Just be prepared and know your directions without relying on your phone!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking to get away from it all then this is the place! Peaceful, quiet with all the comforts of home. If you like wine then even better! As an added bonus beer is available if wine is not your thing. Don't recommend children on this trip, take them to Disneyland instead. This place is best enjoyed by adults only! We had an excellent time and plan to visit again.

Exceeded expectations. Charming lodging, beautiful landscaping and scenic river

  • 5 of 5

I rented the Serendipity, Aspen and Birch cabins at the Roaring River vineyards for two nights so that my parents, brother and his wife, and my husband and I could celebrate my parents' 60th anniversary. To say it exceeded expectations is an understatement. Josephine and Tom were extremely gracious to us and we instantly became friends. They met us upon arrival and showed us around, making us feel very at home and comfortable. The grounds are immaculate and the landscaping is beautiful. I took countless photos of the flowers, birds and river. The Aspen and Birch lodgings are right on the water and the Serendipity is a very short walk from it. We thought once we settled in, we'd go into Elkin or some other town to eat or that we'd get on the Blue Ridge Parkway to sightsee but instead we quickly decided nothing could be more beautiful or enjoyable than staying right there, gazing at the water and enjoying the grounds. Josephine and I had communicated in advance and she had suggested I bring cheeses, crackers, meat for the grill, etc. and that proved to be a perfect plan. We fished, took walks by the river and vineyard and pond, played corn hole, and grilled our steaks. The kitchens had everything we needed and there are ample places to sit and relax. We also enjoyed the firepits and hot tub. The restaurant there serves delicious food. We had fun doing a wine tasting and then we purchased several bottles of wine. The men enjoyed an NC beer as well. We were all extremely impressed by the beauty of the grounds, the variety of flowers and trees, the landscaping, how immaculate everything was, the charming decor, the quality of construction and the attention to details. I have mixed feelings telling about it because I know once people realize how wonderful this place is, it will be harder to find availability and I definitely want to come back! By the time we left, I had taken at least a hundred photos, including ones of the lovely Josephine. We hiked at Stone Mountain State Park on our way back to Raleigh - it is very near the Roaring River Vineyards. Thumbs up and 5 star rating!

Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

Tom and Josephine are marvelous hosts! They graciously gave us suggestions for hikes and exploration and kindly offered access to the vineyard, fishing, springs, etc. The sweet little cabin was very clean. The kitchen had everything needed. We really liked that it only has one room and forced us to use the outdoors as our living space! We enjoyed meals on the porch, reading by the river, and playing games in the common space. The entire property is beautifully maintained! Although the cabin is small, the venue offers multiple places to comfortably view and easily access the river. This was the quiet restful weekend we had hoped to find. We are very thankful.

Lodgings are on the banks of the Roaring River, inside Roaring River Vineyards, in a beautiful natural setting, just two miles from beautiful Stone Mountain State Park (NC), close to the Blue Ridge Mountains and scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Bird-Watching, wildlife observing, and foliage viewing are popular activities. Year-round fishing available on stocked private ponds (no-license required) and river, and bow-hunting on the private estate. Arrowhead hunting is also a great pastime - we recently found an Indian arrowhead dating back to 8,000 B.C.in perfect condition. There are many idyllic spots perfect for a picnic: among the grapevines, along a babbling brook, or on the banks of the river. Or you can lounge on a sandy beach along the river, and relish the tranquility of the place, or just cool off on a hot summer day in the refreshing water of the river. And last but not least, experience the great wines produced around us, in the Yadkin Valley Appellation, at numerous wineries on the NC Wine Route. There is an event venue ideal for weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, family reunions and business events. Lodgings available during Merle Fest and other events.
