Why Gary Wendt chose Saugatuck
The setting of Heartland House seems like you are miles away from any hustle-bustle, but within minutes you can be at some of the best galleries, shopping, restaurants and harbor life around!
What makes this House unique
The vintage character, from woodwork to bathrooms, has been impeccably taken care of over the years. The bike path at the property entrance makes it easy to ride around the countryside or to quickly get to downtown. The yard has so much space for all sorts of activities.
Pool / Spa
My family absolutely loved the Heartland house. We had 13 of us staying there and hosted our son’s rehearsal dinner with about 50 people. It was perfect. Hoping we will someday make it back to Saugatuck and stay here again
Beautiful secluded home off the beaten path.
Welcoming, clean, and fun, Heartland House had everything we needed for a fabulous and relaxing girls weekend. Close to downtown, walk to the dune rides, or just relax on the deck; this home was perfect. Thank you Gary, we had a blast!
Heartland House was a great place for our 3-generation family vacation. The six comfortable bedrooms were actually more than we needed for our 6 adults and 4 little boys. The living spaces were large and very comfortable. The recently remodeled kitchen was wonderful, with more than everything we needed. In fact, I'd estimate that you could cook Thanksgiving dinner for a crowd of 30 without needing anything extra. There were also tons of outdoor and indoor games with everything in good shape. It's in a very convenient location. Downtown Saugatuck is a 15 minute walk and quick bike ride. Would our family go back? Absolutely!
we loved Saugatuck
The location of Heartland House is fantastic! Its a nice walk or bike ride to downtown. The outside space/property of the house is wonderful! We enjoyed chilling on the spacious porch and took advantage of the yard space for the great selection of yard games that Gary offers at the house. The Hungry Village Tour, the dune ride, Saugatuck State Park and the beach are a must!
Beautifully restored home in a peaceful setting.
If you are ready to get away from all the hustle and yet be within easy reach of a good restaurant or beautiful Lake Michigan, this is the place to be. All the comforts in a compact package. We loved the remodeled kitchen, the restored woodwork, the deck and hot tub, the hammock and the firepit. Our three-generation family felt right at home. The owner was responsive, and Elsa, the caretaker next-door, was a delight.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so glad your family enjoyed your week in Saugatuck. You were such a lovely group to host. Enjoy the rest of your summer! -Gary

The kids truly enjoyed the expansive yard and adults took full advantage of nights around the fire pit! So easy to check in and out. The location could not have been better for beaching, shopping, boat rides and more!
