This multi-story, 5000 sq. ft. home can sleep 8-10 while providing plenty of private space. High ceilings, exposed wood beams, Spanish tile floors and many other touches distinguish this custom home built in 2004. Just a half mile from town allows you to walk anywhere., including access to the Tunnel, Gateway, Steam Donkey and Entertainer trail systems- all a hikers' and mountain bikers' paradise. A 10 minute drive takes you to Lake Siskiyou and 20 minutes or less up to the Ski Park. A home for all seasons, the back deck provides a panoramic view of the Eddy Mountains south to Castle Crags and North to Black Butte. A 17x33, 5-foot deep pool is built into the deck for summer fun, and a 4-person hot tub is the place to be especially in winter, or any time at all. The pool usually opens early June and closes some time after Labor Day, depending upon weather. Dining tables are available on the back deck as well as the front deck which claims a Mt. Shasta view and large grass yard for outdoor activities. There's even a basketball hoop for a quick pick up game! An outdoor wood-fired pizza oven can be booked for a special evening by contracting with the caretaker who is also a personal chef.

The main floor holds a great room with 60' TV with hook ups for your devices along with comfy couches and chairs. A half bath is off the great room. A well-appointed kitchen has a counter and stools for those who keep the cook company or just to grab a quick bite. The dining area accommodates 8 or more if needed. The master bedroom is on the main floor and has a comfy Cal King bed, private deck and private bath. The office off the kitchen has a queen bed for extra guests. A queen air mattress is also available if needed.

Upstairs are two bedrooms served by a large bathroom with separate sink and toilet/shower areas. The triple mountain view bedroom provides a queen bed, and a sleeping loft with a single bed. The second bedroom has a King bed, lots of extra floor space, and a trundle with 2single beds, plus an additional single bed in a sleeping loft. This is a room that can hold a number of kids or suits an adult couple equally well. Both of these upstairs bedrooms have Mt. Shasta views.

Laundry facilities are easily accessed on the main floor.

The basement floor contains a separate apartment (separate entrance) which houses an on-site caretaker to help with any questions or as needed. At an additional cost, the caretaker can work to arrange in-home massage from a Certified Massage Therapist, gourmet meals/appetizers from a local chef, shuttle service, and personal training from a Certified Personal Trainer. Insight into the areas many attractions and little-known gems are free.

About Maria Ribera

This property is near and dear to our hearts as we custom-designed and built it for our family. We are a family of mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, swimmers, kayakers, skiers and snow boarders. After almost 10 years and wonderful family memories of children growing up, we have moved from the area to pursue various career options for us and schools for our children. Though we have only gone as far as Monterey and still come 'home' when we can, we are happy to share our home with you in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Maria Ribera purchased this house in 2004

Why Maria Ribera chose Mount Shasta

Being so close to town but having such spectacular views and ultimate privacy are perhaps the best selling points of this location. The home itself is spacious and comfortable, but feels like a 'home' and not like a hotel or museum. Lots of original art adorns the walls and the style of furnishings go together in a way that makes you feel welcome.

What makes this house unique

The home is situated on the property to make the most of the many views. The southern and western exposures on the back deck make it the place to enjoy stunning sunsets. The many interior windows in the living room also let you watch life unfold across the mountains. For those that want to get away from it all and simply unplug, you can park the car and go everywhere on foot from shopping to great hiking. Pack a backpack for the day and head out on an adventure!

Overall very nice, but....

  • 4 of 5

Overall, our stay was very enjoyable. We liked the nice bedrooms, kitchen and living area as well as the hot tub. The setting is very private. A big disappointment was the missing wood burning stove which was one of the amenities listed in the VRBO online description. My wife is a cozy fire aficionado so this was a sort of a big deal for us--especially with snow and cold weather surroundings this time of year. We didn't find out about this until we happened to ask about firewood for the stove just before our arrival. On the plus side, caretaker Nate, was very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

A Wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

This house is large, very clean, well-layed out. It's very quiet and private. It's well-located, as well. It's near downtown and not far from Lake Siskyou. The outdoor pool was unheated, but the temp was perfect for us. And if you're cold, jump into the clean hot tub. Nathan, the caretaker, is very friendly and helpful. Great kitchen! It would be perfect for a ski vacation or summer break. The skiing is inexpensive and the lines are not long. Check out Stewart Mineral Springs, 25-20 miles North in Weed. Get the sauna, hot mineral bath, a cool dip in the mineral water creek and splurge on a Massage. Nathan, also, does massage, and he's very experienced in a number of techniques. There is so much to do in and from Mt Shasta. The trout farm is famous and it has an amazing museum, all for $1. Riding Mt bikes around Lake Siskyou is 5-7 mile ride that gets you ready for a jump into the lake.

Mediocre at best... Caretaker is great.

  • 2 of 5

We ran out of hot water three different days... and the water was out from evening until morning. Meaning no warm showers after skiing, etc. The heat was out one of those nights and was out until late morning. Ran out of fuel. The linens were shabby, beds uncomfortable. The only good thing about the house is the caretaker, who was very helpful through it all and kept the road clear of snow etc.

Owner's Response: Shari- I am so very sorry that these things happened during your stay. A big winter this year has certainly given the community many challenges of mountain living, including scheduled fuel deliveries being behind due to the impassable roads and adverse conditions due to so much snow. When we put our diesel hydronic heating system in the house, it was intended to be an efficient means to heat and provide hot water. We also set up regularly schedule fuel deliveries to make sure that there was always diesel fuel around, particularly in the winter when more is used due to the need to heat the house as well as the hot water. Unfortunately, when something goes wrong, like running low on fuel, they system falters and there is neither heat nor hot water--- In the 12 years that we've had this home, this is only the 2nd winter in which fuel deliveries were so behind due to extreme weather that fuel levels were compromised, and I am so sorry that your visit coincided with this "perfect storm." Please accept a refund from us for the days of your stay impacted by this situation--- it is our hope that this will attempt to reflect our apologies appropriately. We will also look into your other comments as this has not been feedback received from any other guests, and we appreciate your sharing your thoughts on your experience so we can continue to improve what we have to offer. Most sincerely, Maria
