Rieger Hotel Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We had a family vacation here over the Christmas holidays. My family and all of our visitors (of which there were a lot) rated this as a "home run". Wonderful kitchen, living room with fireplace and the roof-top enclosed room is fantastic. We enjoyed the outside room, and it would probably be the main activity place in the summer. This section of KC is really hopping- lots of interesting restaurants, bars, breweries, galleries small shops and the usual franchise places are not far. Lots to do and everything is very close for walking or a short drive. Elevator and garage works great for our family shopping and for those who can't handle stairs. Bedrooms are large and fantastic showers. Second floor apartment has a full kitchen, laundry room -which was great for overflow cooking and refrigerator . The photos don't do the place justice. We want to come back - but the word may be out about it and it will be hard to book. The place is a gem with a lot of history.

Very Impressive and Unique!

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for our family while we were in Kansas City for our son's graduation. We used 4 of the bedrooms, everyone had plenty of space. The floor plan is spread out with several of the bedrooms on one level and the master and main living areas on another level. Lots of stairs when you first walk in the front door but it is totally worth it! The main level is amazing! It has a chic loft feel! We took advantage of the beautiful kitchen and huge table by either cooking or bringing in food (KC barbecue!) for our dinners. We invited a few graduates and their families over and loved using the living room and kitchen area to entertain. We took advantage of the balcony on the main level and the views from the rooftop.

We walked out our front door and caught the streetcar (light rail) to the City Market, which was great on Saturday. They have a huge farmers market and we had tons of choices for lunch and brought home some fresh flowers for the big kitchen table. We walked a few blocks to The Green Lady Lounge one evening to listen to some jazz, I highly recommend going there!

Brent was very helpful before arriving and during our stay. He was very quick to respond to any questions I had.

Wow!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great five night stay here while in town for a conference at the Sheraton which was a quick half-mile walk away. The free RideKC Streetcar stop was very convenient and was frequently used by my wife and kids to get up to Union Station or to explore downtown. I certainly agree with previous comments that the pictures do not do it justice. There is just so much space so even if you have a full house it never felt crowded. The view from the roof top is great and such a wonderful place to hang out and read a book or just look out over the city. The kitchen table is amazing and there is plenty of cooking, fridge and freezer space.

Our only issue was a slight mismatch between beds and bathrooms which was hard to understand from the description on the website and I was still surprised after a few clarifying e-mails. The bottom line is that three people, or families, can have their own totally private beds and showers. One of the bedrooms only has a half bath so they would need to use the shower in someone else’s' bathroom. Two of the beds on the second floor of the building (first floor of the living space) are arranged as an apartment that could function independently as it has its own kitchen and washer/dryer. There are two beds (one can be separated from the other with a curtain but the other is open to the kitchen) and two full baths (one is a tub only and the other has a shower only). Our group knew each other pretty well so the person who stayed in the bedroom with only a half bath used the shower in the "apartment" which was just down the hall. If you have five people or couples who all want their own totally private room/bathroom this would not work well but it would be awesome for a gathering of family or friends.

Again, wonderful stay and we will look at staying there again if we have enough people to split the costs for the entire visit. Thank you!

Secret sauce on the barbecue rib that is Kansas City

  • 5 of 5

From the outside it looks like an old hotel. From the inside, the Rieger still looks enough like an old hotel to make it a blast of a place to stage your assault on KC. Each of the numerous large bedrooms are unique adaptations to what was the original interior. The new digs are luxurious but still quirky enough to have that memorable feel that makes you want to hang out and explore everything from the elaborate antique French range to the rooftop hideaway overlooking that parking lot where tourists continuously pose in front of the butterfly wings painted on the wall in the arts district. Two blocks from the famous Lidia's restaurant, three from Union Station, four blocks to KC's Crown Center. It's no mystery why some guy named Al Capone is said to have liked to drop in.

Unique, Five Star and perfect for family and friends!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over the Holiday and it was special. As soon as we drove up we were greeted with thoughtful tips for the stay. I think the welcome might have been the best! The entire condo was immaculate and the decor was timeless but relevant today. The kitchen table was the center piece with the chefs kitchen in the backdrop! A place that will be a memory for all and is great for all ages! Thank you and Cheers to 2017!
