About this property
Truckee Retreat Hot Tub And Yard
Summary:
Soak in your private hot tub under Sierra stars, then wake up to mountain views in this sunny, dog-friendly Truckee retreat. 3 beds, 2 baths, fenced yard, no HOA hassle — just pure freedom. Walk to the Truckee River, bike the Legacy Trail, hit Northstar in under 20 minutes. Summer hikes, ski weekends, fall color, spring quiet — this is your four-season basecamp. Bring the crew. Bring the dog. Just come.
The Space:
This is a well-kept, modern Truckee home that has been updated throughout. Fresh finishes, comfortable furniture, and a layout that works well for groups. Everything is stocked and ready when you arrive.
The kitchen opens to the dining room, which flows into the living area — the whole main floor connects naturally so the group never feels split up. The living room has a flat screen smart TV with a sound bar, a couch and chairs, and a wood-burning stove tucked in the corner that throws real heat on cold Sierra nights. We provide the wood. Board games are stocked inside the ottoman. The wifi at the cabin is fast with 372 mbps great for remote workers and all your streaming needs during your stay.
The kitchen has an induction range, good counter space, and is stocked with everything you need to cook for a group. Pots, pans, appliances — it is all here.
Sleeping
The primary bedroom has a king bed and an ensuite full bathroom. The two additional bedrooms each have queens and share the full hallway bathroom. Both bathrooms have tub showers with wands installed. The house sleeps six across three private rooms comfortably.
The Backyard
The backyard is the highlight for most guests. A Hot Springs hot tub runs year-round and seats the full group. String lights cross the patio and yard. There is a propane grill, solid patio furniture, and enough space to actually use the yard. The grass stays green all season with irrigation.
The yard is fully fenced and dogs are welcome for a small additional fee — they have room to run without a leash.
Guest Access:
Guests have full access to the entire property — the house, all three bedrooms, the deck, hot tub, and fenced backyard. One of the garage bays are closed off for owner Storage, we provide one garage bay that houses the laundry furnace and water heater for guest use. We do not recommend parking a vehicle in the garage due to the smaller nature of the garage bay but its great for storing summer outdoor belongings and your winter gear for the mountains!
The Neighborhood:
Olympic Heights is one of Truckee's best-kept secrets. Perched on a south-facing hillside between downtown Truckee and Glenshire, it sits in what locals call the banana belt — the pocket of town that catches more sun and sheds snow faster than almost anywhere else in the Sierra. In a region where winter can feel relentless, that matters.
The neighborhood is small, quiet, and primarily full-time residents — the kind of street where people know their neighbors and look out for each other. There is no HOA, no resort crowd, no transient energy. Just mountain homes tucked into the pines with views of Martis Valley and the back side of Northstar.
The Truckee River runs along the southern edge of the neighborhood. In summer it draws swimmers, fly fishermen, and people who just want to sit on a rock and watch the water move. The Legacy Trail, a seven-mile paved path along the river, connects the neighborhood directly to historic downtown Truckee — walkable, bikeable, and dog-friendly in every season.
Downtown Truckee is two miles out and punches well above its size. Commercial Row has independent restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and boutiques that hold their own against any mountain town in the West. FiftyFifty Brewing, Cottonwood Restaurant, and Squeeze In are local staples worth knowing before you arrive.
Northstar California is under 20 minutes. Donner Lake is a short drive west. Lake Tahoe's North Shore is about 25 minutes south. Reno-Tahoe International Airport is roughly 40 minutes east via I-80 — making this an easy arrival from anywhere.
This is not a neighborhood that announces itself. It rewards guests who find it.
Getting Around:
The property sits on Highland Avenue in Olympic Heights, two miles from historic downtown Truckee via Glenshire Drive. It is a straightforward, mostly flat drive with no significant winter road hazards between the house and town. For guests arriving by car, this is one of the easier locations in Truckee to navigate in any season.
On Foot and By Bike
Steps outside the front door is a beautiful meadow with a 2 mile trail loop for hikes and dog walks in the neighborhood.
The Legacy Trail paved path is a short drive from the neighborhood and follows the Truckee River directly into downtown — seven miles of flat, scenic riding that welcomes dogs. For guests who bring bikes or rent locally, this is the best way to experience the area at a slower pace. Walking to downtown is possible but not practical for most guests given the distance and hillside terrain.
By Car
A personal vehicle is the most reliable option for everything beyond the immediate neighborhood. Downtown Truckee is under ten minutes, Northstar California is under 20, Donner Lake is about 15, and Lake Tahoe's North Shore is approximately 25 minutes. Reno and its airport are roughly 40 minutes east via I-80.
Winter Driving
Olympic Heights benefits from its south-facing, lower-elevation position and receives less snow accumulation than neighborhoods like Tahoe Donner or Kings Beach. Winter driving preparation is still essential. A 4WD or AWD vehicle with chains on board is strongly recommended. Caltrans chain controls can be enforced on surrounding highways with little notice, and compliance is mandatory regardless of your drivetrain.
Northstar parking fills quickly on weekends and powder days. Arriving before 9:00 AM is the most reliable way to secure a space. The resort offers shuttle service from satellite lots on high-demand days.
Ride Share
Uber and Lyft operate in the Truckee area but availability is inconsistent, particularly late at night and during active weather. If a night out is planned, arrange return transportation before leaving the property.
Summer and Shoulder Seasons
Summer is the easiest time to get around. Highway 267 south toward Lake Tahoe sees significant traffic on weekends between late morning and early evening — early departures make a meaningful difference. Spring and fall bring lighter traffic, clearer roads, and the most underrated version of this destination.

Interaction with Guests:
We are local hosts who live nearby and know this area well. Our approach is straightforward — we check in with guests once or twice during a stay depending on the length, just to make sure everything is going smoothly. Beyond that, we respect your privacy completely. You will not hear from us unless something trip-related requires our attention.
That said, we are always happy to hear from you. If a question comes up that is not already answered in the digital guidebook — and we have tried to cover everything — just reach out. We are available daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM and respond within the hour.
Before arrival, the digital guidebook has everything guests need — check-in details, house instructions, WiFi, hot tub care, parking, and our personal recommendations for restaurants, trails, coffee shops, and things to do across every season. We know this area well and have put that knowledge into the guide so guests are not starting from scratch on a search engine when they arrive.
After 9:00 PM we are offline to recharge. Late arrivals are completely fine, but we ask that guests anticipating an arrival after 9:00 PM reach out in advance so we can confirm all check-in details beforehand. That way everything is waiting for you — door code, parking, guidebook — and you can arrive smoothly without needing to reach us or disturb the neighbors.
Local hosts. Respectful of your privacy. Here when you need us — 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, every day.
