About the property

Two story chalet; four bedroom, two bathroom, sleeps 8-10, close to the lake!

Come relax at Lake Tahoe in our family’s charming chalet on the beautiful and peaceful west shore of Lake Tahoe. Our cabin is recently updated and completely furnished.

Each of the four bedrooms (two upstairs, two downstairs) contain a queen size bed and all linens are provided for your comfort and convenience. Additionally, the upstairs bedrooms each contain a twin rollaway bed. The two bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs) have been remodeled and updated.

Just bring your food and favorite beverages and enjoy preparing your meals in the modern and fully stocked kitchen. Or take a five-minute walk to the local pizza parlor for some of the best food Tahoe has to offer. If you forgot to bring something, the local market is only a short drive or a ten-minute walk.

During the warm summer days you can relax on the deck while enjoying the serenity of the west shore, and when it gets chilly out you can cozy up inside with a roaring fire in the wood burning stove.

A short walk to the beach - only two blocks away! Provided with your stay is full access to the beach and pier at the Water’s Edge. You can also walk or bike to Sugar Pine Point State Park, or hit the slopes at Homewood Ski Resort less than 3 miles away. There's a great little coffee shop a block away and a fun local pizza spot with a nice selection of craft beers.

Our rental rates are all inclusive, meaning El Dorado County Transient Occupancy Tax (10%) and cleaning fee are included in the quoted per night rate. I do charge a $250.00 refundable security deposit. VRBO also charges a service fee, which is not included in the nightly rate.

About Gary Gutowsky

I grew up in the Bay Area and my parents, my brother, and I have enjoyed vacationing in Lake Tahoe since the mid-60s. We bought the lot in 1972 and built the cabin ourselves in 1976. After retiring from the Air Force in 2011, my wife and I settled in the Sacramento area to be close to our kids and so we could spend more time at the Lake. Since then we have spent a considerable about of time at the cabin and love being there. When we're not there, I spend my free time teaching part-time at Sierra College and volunteering with the American Cancer Society and Junior Achievement of Sacramento.

Gary Gutowsky purchased this chalet in 1976

Why Gary Gutowsky chose Tahoma

We love the West Shore of Lake Tahoe! That's why we've been coming up here as long as I can remember. There is so much to do here, or not...it's up to you. One of my favorite activities is to walk down to the pier at Water's Edge in the evening and check out all the stars. It's amazing and so relaxing. Another fun activity is a bike ride around the neighborhood or through Sugar Pine Point State Park. As a very recreational skier, I love skiing at Homewood. It's only a few minutes away and it's a great family ski area with some of the best views of the lake. I think my favorite time of year there is the Fall. The days are still warm but the nights cool down so it's a perfect time to sit outside during the day and cozy up to the fire at night. And since the kids are back in school, it's not crowded there at all. Lake Tahoe is my favorite place in the world...any time of year!

What makes this chalet unique

Our cabin is a labor of love. We built it in 1976 as a family project with the help of a few friends. Although it was built with many hand-me-downs, it has always been cozy and comfortable. We updated the kitchen in 2006 and the bathrooms in 2013. Also in 2013 we replaced most of the furnishings and all the linens. We're very happy with the way it turned out--maintaining that rustic charm while providing all the modern conveniences. Come check it out!

It was clean, and neat. Everything we needed was there.

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. However when we opened the dishwasher it was full with clean dishes. And , the washer had washed items still in it. We placed our dirty towels on top when we departed.

We enjoyed the rustic and charm of the cabin. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Hi Ralph and Cheri, So glad you enjoyed your stay at our cabin. I appreciate your inputs and apologize for not having the cabin ready for your arrival . I talked to my cleaning service and made sure they know to check the dishwasher and laundry as part of their checklist. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. We look forward to having you back for your next Tahoe getaway. Gary

Wonderful cabin for a great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family vacation at the Gutowsky cabin. We were two families of 3 adults and 4 kids. The 4 bedrooms (2 upstairs and 2 downstairs) helped us spread out and really get comfortable. Everything was very clean, the kitchen had lots of pots and pans to help us prepare the few meals and fireplace would be very nice in the winter. There are two extra twin folding beds which we used and were perfect for the kids.

The owner is very approachable and kind, very helpful with all our questions and concerns. We really appreciated the late checkout that he very graciously arranged.

The closest beach on the lake is only 5-7 minute walk even with kids and dogs. And the beach is sandier compared to the nearby beaches though unfortunately not dog-friendly. There is a dog-friendly beach about 10 minutes away but we didn't make it there! And there very nice restaurants in Tahoe city about 15 minutes away.

All in all, we had a great time at the cabin and plan on returning. Thank you Gary for sharing your wonderful cabin with us!

Great Tahoma Family Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 2 week vacation staying in this Tahoma cabin, 3 generations. The accommodations were great with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. The kitchen had everything and more that you needed for cooking and we loved the open floor plan of kitchen, dining, and living areas. The laundry room came in handy and was used a couple of times by each couple. The neighborhood is quiet and fairly flat for walking and bike riding and the outdoor deck with bbq and table/chairs was cozy and inviting. The cabin is a short walk to HOA beach and dock as well as pizza restaurant and local market. The weather was perfect!! Gary (the owner) was fantastic to work with and helped us secure a HOA boat buoy for the time we were there (an extra cost we gladly paid). Gary was very responsive throughout the rental process. Thank you for sharing your home with us...we look forward to our next stay!

We had a wonderful visit at this charming chalet.

  • 5 of 5

We took our kids and grandkids for a weekend stay at this charming chalet cabin in Tahoma. It looks small but actually on the inside it comfortably fit 4 adults and 6 children. The beds are very comfortable. The living room is layed out nicely and there is enough furtiture to fit everyone. The cabin was clean and cozy. There is alot to do in the area. We hiked on some gorgeous hiking trails and then spent time at the beach. We had dinner one night at a funky pizza place within very short walking distance from the cabin. There is a nearby park with an ampitheater. On the morning of our departure we saw a friendly bear roaming outside. We stayed inside until he left the area. I highly recommend the Gutowsky Family Cabin. The owners are easy to communicate with and are very helpful and responsive if you have any questions during your stay. We certainly enjoyed our time there building family memories and we expect to return next year as well.

Great cabin close to the water (<5min walk)

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin close to the West Shore. We even jumped off the boat dock as a family (less than 5min walk), since so close to the cabin where we could cozy up next to the fire. Had a good pizza place just down the street. Nice place to relax and get away. Close to Tahoma, but away from the busy tourist centers. Very much appreciate working with Gary, prompt to respond and no hassle when booking or after our stay. Thanks Gary!
