About Gary Gutowsky
I grew up in the Bay Area and my parents, my brother, and I have enjoyed vacationing in Lake Tahoe since the mid-60s. We bought the lot in 1972 and built the cabin ourselves in 1976. After retiring from the Air Force in 2011, my wife and I settled in the Sacramento area to be close to our kids and so we could spend more time at the Lake. Since then we have spent a considerable about of time at the cabin and love being there. When we're not there, I spend my free time teaching part-time at Sierra College and volunteering with the American Cancer Society and Junior Achievement of Sacramento.

Why Gary Gutowsky chose Tahoma
We love the West Shore of Lake Tahoe! That's why we've been coming up here as long as I can remember. There is so much to do here, or not...it's up to you. One of my favorite activities is to walk down to the pier at Water's Edge in the evening and check out all the stars. It's amazing and so relaxing. Another fun activity is a bike ride around the neighborhood or through Sugar Pine Point State Park. As a very recreational skier, I love skiing at Homewood. It's only a few minutes away and it's a great family ski area with some of the best views of the lake. I think my favorite time of year there is the Fall. The days are still warm but the nights cool down so it's a perfect time to sit outside during the day and cozy up to the fire at night. And since the kids are back in school, it's not crowded there at all. Lake Tahoe is my favorite place in the world...any time of year!
What makes this Chalet unique
Our cabin is a labor of love. We built it in 1976 as a family project with the help of a few friends. Although it was built with many hand-me-downs, it has always been cozy and comfortable. We updated the kitchen in 2006 and the bathrooms in 2013. Also in 2013 we replaced most of the furnishings. We're very happy with the way it turned out--maintaining that rustic charm while providing all the modern conveniences. Come check it out!

Nice little cabin
Enjoyed the stay in the cabin. Was nice, clean and comfortable, and the grandkids had a great time. Good location not too far from the North Shore. The only problem that we had was that the circuit breaker’s tripped when we turned the space heater on and we could not locate the breaker box. We just bundled up with a few extra blankets and it was fine. I would rent the cabin again.
Quaint cabin, nice location, great owner!
Had a really nice stay and cabin was clean & tidy. Really appreciated the owner’s helpful tips and information!
SWEET PLACE AMAZING HOST
This cabin worked out perfectly. Everything was very well organized. There was 8 of us everyone slept comfortably. Lots of pots and pans to cook with so we didn't have to eat out. Gary was amazing very communicative and nice to work with!! I definitely plan on coming back and staying here.
Comfortable cabin, responsible owner
Our trip started rough but Gary the owner is very responsible. We came during a big Tahoe snow storm and the gas heater was broken, so we spent a very cold first night sharing space heaters among the 4 rooms. Gary and his home caretaker Tracy (who lives in Tahoma) were very responsive by text the next day and got it fixed even while we were out of the house skiing. He was also very happy to refund us if we bought an extra space heater. Gary was very helpful during the whole trip and the cabin is very nice and comfortable. Would stay again. It's also a good location in the middle of the Tahoe area.
Perfect Cabin for families!
This cabin was absolutely perfect! It fit our group of 10 and 2 little 5 lb dogs much better than we expected. We just could not believe how much space there was inside and everything was pretty much remodeled! We did have a couple that wasn't so use to the cold so it was a bit too chilly for them at night if the fireplace wasn't running. I'd recommend bringing extra blankets just in case. Location was great, very quiet, lots of stores nearby.
If you own a boat, be sure to inquire about buoy rental during your stay. We can reserve one for you with prior coordination and based on availability.
