There are lots of options for completely private sleeping areas with their own private bath at The Ranch. We have relationships with adjacent properties to sleep larger groups of people.We have access to a rural event facility or can help you locate a back roads venue of choice, ideal for corporate meetings, dinner parties, wine tastings, team cooking classes, rehearsal dinners, elopements or intimate weddings or renewals. We have video and large screen streaming for corporate retreat needs.

The quoted rates are for 5 bedrooms and 12 guests in The Ranch House only. A few day use guests are also possible. Other options and setups are possible, including access to our guest house; fees may apply.

CONCIERGE: We have a full-time concierge on staff with a profound working knowledge of the diverse activities at offer in the Wine Country. Let our concierge organize tour and tasting itineraries for your group at award-winning private wineries not open to the public including transportation and informative talks from owners or winemakers. We can arrange en situ private pours/tastings by some of the county's best winemakers or private chef presentations/meals with wine country pairings right at our property. Or maybe you want to know the best choice for hot air balloon trips or where to zip line through the redwoods, ensure the most informed visit possible to this multi-faceted agricultural area. If you can dream about it, we can organize it for you; there is a fee for service.

The interior dining area seats 16 and the 19' exterior table overlooking the Sonoma Valley easily accommodates 18 and more. A veritable nature preserve of 70 secluded acres on a ridge at the Napa/Sonoma county line, this home has a breathtaking vanishing edge pool with views to Mount St Helena and beyond. Nature is just BIG up here. Every design choice has been made to improve one's ability to sense and absorb the splendors of rural Sonoma County. We do our utmost to create the ultimate vacation environment, anticipating one's every need. The gardens at the house are noteworthy: wisteria droop across the front of the house and roses abound in the side yard. A floral cutting garden and herb garden are designed for resident guests' use during their stay (seasonal). There is no better place to contemplate life big issues and restore your creative juices.

The chemical free pool is 60 feet long. The surrounding deck exceeds 3000 sq ft with barbecue area and fire-pit. 8 person (known to hold more!) hot tub, bocce and a media room with 70' flat screen and surround sound. Extensive area for outdoor seating and dining including dining tables both inside and out. *Please note in the rainy season (typically November-March/April) outdoor cushions are stored.

The kitchen was designed for our chefs, thus professional quality: 10' island, 4' range, 3 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, options for state of the art cooking equipment, etc. The owner, a European-trained interior designer has used antique furnishings and finishes throughout. The refinement of the design adds much to the overall experience and level of relaxation affordable at this awe-inspiring property.

PARTICULARS: We have a caretaker who lives on a neighboring property, so unlike most VRBO rentals, you can be assured of better oversight and assistance; someone is almost always on call. There is firewood on the premises and the fire pit will be stacked, ready for your match to set them alight. The pool is truly chemical free with numerous in-water benches from which to overlook the Valley Beyond.

CHECK-IN is guaranteed by 4:00 p.m. and checkout is at 11:00 a.m. We do our very best to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs, but cannot make any guarantees until one week prior to arrival in case the house is occupied on your arrival or departure date or housekeeping is occurring.

EVENTS: We now have access to a nearby rural event facility or can help you locate a back-roads venue of choice. Elopements are easily accommodated, ask about our options. We can arrange intimate sized events, a rural wine country event as we have a 5-star event planner on staff familiar with all venues and vendors of quality in the two-county area. The size and scope of this property afford unique venue choices for wine tasting events, dinner parties for all celebrations, ceremonies, rehearsal dinners, yoga classes, just to name a few!

CORPORATE: We are uniquely well configured to provide both the mind-expanding natural environment plus the required amenities and services to truly ensure blue ocean level creativity for either meetings or retreats.

LOCATION UNPARALLELED: We are so high up, 2500 feet (we are slightly above neighboring Pride Winery), that we are actually rarely affected by the bay area fog or “marine layer”. For vacationers, this guarantees endless warm summer nights and much hotter average temperatures during the day - ideal for taking advantage of the pool and grounds. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned to be sure. This is basically a state of the art “green” structure with superb climate control. For cooler periods we have radiant floor heat throughout. The 70 acre ranch is located near the Napa/Sonoma county line and thus uniquely affords easy access and touring of both valleys. We are 25 minutes from the corner of Highway 12 and Calistoga Rd in the Sonoma Valley or just under 25 minutes from the center of St Helena in the Napa Valley. From the Ranch you can drop down to the center of either valley, approaching your destinations from the “side” thus avoiding the encumbered main valley north/south traffic. We are 2 hours from San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento. There is an airport in Santa Rosa, 45 min from the house; several commuter flights per day from Seattle, San Diego, and LA.

The house is located off a 1.5 mile one lane all-weather gravel road.

CULINARY OPTIONS GALORE: We are pleased to have a myriad offering of culinary and wine services for our guests. We are fortunate to have the renowned wine country chef John Ash and his staff managing our culinary offerings. Many believe John to be the “Father of Wine Country Cuisine”. The sky is the limit for culinary events or classes, winery tours or private tastings, or any scale of private dining or catering that John and his staff can arrange to meet your preferences.

I am an interior designer trained in both the US and France. I totally gutted and rebuilt this farm house down to just a few studs, even 50% of the roof is all new with solar added. We made certain the house retained the character of rural wine country living but included all the comforts and efficiencies of a brand new home. Because my background is specifically in hospitality design, I think you will find that we have done well to anticipate guests' needs as they come to the house for profound rest and relaxation as well as to partake of the wonders of both the Sonoma and Napa wine country.

In my experience a relaxed mind is a creative (or playful) mind. What could be better or more important to life on this planet? I am ever amazed by the splendor of this region and I hope to provide environments that make this fact more available and deeply appreciable. What makes this estate unique

The sheer size of this property is its fundamental uniqueness and prowess. The views and sense of vastness afforded by its ridge-top location, above both the Napa and Sonoma valleys, fills one with a sense of the magic of this geography and the profundity of the time-honored agricultural and culinary traditions thriving in the northern California region - (like nowhere else this side of the Atlantic or Pacific actually). Nature is all but undisturbed and thus busily flourishing. I have lived in numerous other areas of both Napa and Sonoma counties, but until I moved here in mid 2012, I had no idea such an undisturbed sense of the wild still existed in this part of the world. The wildlife is abundant and with that comes a sense of profound stillness encouraging one to truly disconnect from the pressures and pace of our everyday world. A place to 'get back to your roots' and consider what life is essentially about; where you have been and where you want to go. Halcyon days await..... Come kiss the stars.

WHOA! Talk about an IDEAL house! I had the opportunity to visit the Ranch Above St. Helena not long ago and was stunned by the enormity of this place! 70 acres total! The drive along St Helena road was an experience in itself. If you’re driving from the Napa Valley side, you will pass privately owned wineries, mammoth redwoods, ferns, ponds, creeks and an iconic looking rock that resembles a Polynesian Tiki God. Just keep your eyes out and you’ll see what I mean.  During my stay, I encountered quite a variety of natural wildlife—turkeys, vultures, squirrels, foxes, even a peacock! The safari drive up the gravel road was equally thrilling. I cannot wait to mountain bike these spots! They feel secluded, but are not located too far away from downtown and other major cycling routes (such as Highway 29 or Silverado Trail).



I also happen to be an art history major, and was taken aback by the quality of the interiors. The eclectic style is fun, refreshing and incredibly romantic. Sofas, beds and benches are covered in paisley, floral and striped prints, linens and furs. As soon as you enter the doorway, you are surrounded by beautiful objets d’arte: Grecian busts, prism chandeliers, rustic shutters, Aubusson carpets, French garden pillars, Rococo mirrors and an intriguing collection of shells and books.



On a separate morning, I even decided to host a tea using a rented set of Noritake China. They have quite a selection that you can rent including linens and other decorative accessories. With the caretaker’s assistance, we played harpsichord music through the Sonos music system. Later, we moved to the outside to enjoy the wisteria and flower gardens. My girlfriends and I felt as if we had become characters straight out of a Jane Austen novel. We all dawned Kentucky Derby hats, sundresses and pearl necklaces. Definitely had a lot of fun playing a game of Bocci in the back while drinking wine and Mint Juleps. It was both wonderful and rare to find a house that has the ability to satisfy my unique party themes!

A Long Cool Glass of water sitting so peacefully and elegantly at the end of the long steep road.

We and our 6 guests had a wonderful experience. The Ranch Above was Visually stimulating within itself and the breath taking views beyond. We had hired a driver and van who came and collected us daily to chaperone us to all of our tastings by day and made certain that we returned back safely by days end.

As we all love to shop and cook as well, each dinner was prepared in house while enjoying our purchases of wines from the day and busily recapping each moment and winery with much laughter !

~ We look very forward to returning again next year without hesitation ! ~

Beautiful property with plenty of space for everyone

We had an amazing time at The Ranch Above - the property is just perfect for group gatherings. We were 14 people, a mix of couples and singles, and this property had more than enough space for everyone to have privacy and to spend time together. It is wonderful that each bedroom has its own lovely bathroom. The views were amazing from the house and from the viewing platform. The kitchen is perfectly set up for groups - three refrigerators, two dishwashers, more than enough glassware and dishware, everything you could want for cooking and baking. The Sonos sound system is great fun and all the patio doors that open up to the beautiful outside were just great. The interior decorating feels special and unique. We just had a marvelous time. Nicole the concierge/planner was a tremendous help in creating a fun itinerary for this 50th birthday party. It really was exactly the celebration I always wanted. (the driveway is, however, a bit of a challenge but I understand the property owner is working with the county to make it more manageable; we did not have any real problems with it, but we did not completely love that one little piece)

perfect place for work retreat

A group of 9 of us came to stay here in February. We took advantage of the concierge grocery shopping service and arrived to three fully stocked fridges. Even though it rained we enjoyed the hot tub and grounds. The kitchen is fully stocked with every possible appliance and tons of dishes. Worth the splurge!

Breathtaking views, impeccable design

This was my 2nd time at The Ranch Above, my first time during "winter" (NYer Speaking). I love the way that the house is designed - immediately you feel right at home, soon you fall in love, some days later it ends as you knew it would and yet it hurts to have to leave. Like a lot of people, the views are what got me day and night (birds of prey flying overhead and plenty of stargazing due to low light pollution for example, not to mention St Helena Mountain, the expanse over the valley etc etc) and I figured that with it being winter, I wouldn't get much in terms of "views".

I was wrong.

It was a whole different atmosphere, literally. We were mesmerized and entranced with what we saw of outside from behind the enormous windows you find in every room of the house (except the media room I think). Their Instagram account shows what I'm talking about @theranchabove

Thanks again for a wonderful time to Blair and her team - There was some problem getting the tv to work and they solved it immediately and without any disruption or inconvenience to us. I would highly recommend the private cooking and wine paring course and the private yoga instructor (do it on the lookout!!) they organized for us at the house. Already booked my next long weekend here - can't wait to come back!

EXCEPTIONAL ACCESS TO BOTH COUNTIES / WINERIES. The elevated yet central location of this property affords maximum privacy yet easy access to not one but both Wine Country valleys. There are a bounty of boutique wineries in the immediate vicinity. We provide more info on wineries and vineyards. Traffic especially in Napa county has become very problematic on weekends. With one 2 lane country road the only north/south option, traffic slows to a crawl from 10am to 7 pm in high season. From the Ranch you can drop down to the center of either valley, approaching your destinations from the “side” thus avoiding the encumbered main valley north/south traffic.

RURAL LOCATION: The drive up to the ranch is spectacular but curvy. The driveway is a gravel rd of one mile - all weather passable; I zip up it in my prius with ease. But it is wise to plan ahead as a run to the grocery store is a 1/2 hour plus errand. We are happy to assist with stocking the house and/or arranging drivers etc. Fees may apply
