About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, Sleeps 7

Boasting amazing ocean views and a highly desirable location in the charming Alpine Chalets retreat in Otter Rock, this warm and welcoming Penthouse Suite for seven makes a fantastic Oregon Coast vacation home for your time at the beach!

One of eleven units in this charming community of vacation homes, the Penthouse Suite is ideal for two couples or a small family getaway. The open floor plan and corner views allow your group to soak up the panorama of the Pacific from the living, dining, and kitchen areas of this special suite.

The sofa and comfortable armchairs sit before a cozy wood-burning stove set on a brick hearth, providing a wonderful spot to settle in with a good book or a board game and watch a winter storm blow in. There's also a cable TV with VCR and DVD player for movie nights. When the weather's nice, you won't be able to resist stepping out to the deck to feel the ocean breezes and watch the sunset.

Enjoy private ocean-view dining at the four-person table, and even take in the scenery as you prepare meals in the full kitchen! All the usual appliances, pots and pans, and dinnerware are provided, so all you'll need to bring along are the groceries. There's a dishwasher for easy clean-up, and two charcoal grills out in the lovely picnic area if you feel like grilling hamburgers or steaks on a sunny day. The breakfast bar also makes it easy for a few guests to chat with the cook or help peel vegetables.

The suite has two bedrooms, each with queen beds, a sofabed, and a full bath with shower/tub combo. Up to six guests can sleep comfortably here. WiFi is provided, and the Penthouse Studio is a dog-friendly home; up to two dogs are allowed (though a nightly fee per dog and a minimum fee per stay will apply).

The whole family will love staying here at the Alpine Chalets! The beautiful sands of Beverly Beach below is accessible via a private trail, and stretches all the way to Yaquina Head. Newport's shopping and dining are only eight miles south, and there are a few options just half a mile away in Otter Rock - including an exceptionally scenic outpost of the popular Mo's seafood chain.

For peace, quiet, and unbelievable ocean views, look no further than this charming Otter Rock vacation rental!

About Vacasa, OR - Oregon Coast Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

Just OK

 • 3 of 5

The good: Views to the west are really great as is the condition of the parking lot and recently rebuilt deck. The trees around the structure make you feel like you're in a forest. Electric heating system worked well and kept us cozy an comfortable for our October stay. Each bedroom has its own thermostat as does the bathroom and living areas. Beach is a 3 or 4 minute walk down a beautiful thought somewhat steep hill. Beach is long and big so your kids or dog can run around for hours. Wi-fi was pretty good for 4 of 5 days but quit working on the 5th day. Property manager 'Lance' was there and gave us instructions for our stay. Bathroom has been upgraded; the toilet looked new and there is new tile around the tub. Bathroom was one of the better parts of the house. Kitchen was the next best. It is fairly roomy with nice counter space on one side, although the cabinets are original unstained/exposed wood and soiled somewhat from many years of use. The stairs and deck are in excellent condition. There are 15 stair steps from the ground level up to the deck and front door so be prepared to do some lifting of your food and luggage.

The ok: Bed in west bedroom (which is a nice large bedroom) is very firm but ok. Bed in east bedroom is even firmer but ok if you don't mind a really firm bed. Blinds over the windows in the living room are mostly intact, although you don't really need them anyway. Kitchen sink does NOT have a garbage disposal. The door on the west bedroom won't close, perhaps due to settling of the foundation. This home was probably build in the 60's or 70's so much of it is dated to that era, but, still mostly functional.

The bad: The fold-out sofa bed in the living room. It's worn-out and unsuitable for both sitting on it as a sofa and sleeping on the fold-out bed. In fact, it's so worn-out that an adult may get a back injury if sleeping on it. We brought 2 thick blankets, as suggested in a another review, which made it ok for our 7 and 10 year old boys. This unit is not configured to sleep 7 adults as listed in the description, it will do 6 at best, with two of the adults possibly in pain the next morning.

The dirty: There was visible dog hair on the carpet in places and it smelled like 'dog' in one place in the living room. The floor-mat by the sliding door was chuck- full of sand when we got there.

The broken: The cover on the dishwasher fell off when we got there, a light in the frig was burned-out, the light over the stove-top was burned-out, the switch on the lamp in the living room was broken, the blinds in front of the sliding glass door are about 50% gone and broken away and the sliding mechanism of the blinds over the sliding glass door was broken. Didn't matter much though since there is no way anyone can see inside the unit from the outside (since it is 15 steps above ground level).

The weird: The entire building structure is canted slightly south, meaning when you walk north inside the house you feel like you are walking up-hill. I used a level app on my phone and measured about a 1 degree slope from north to south. The slope didn't bother us too much though, it was just a little unusual.

Loved the view!

 • 3 of 5

The view at this location was amazing and for that alone I would come back. I was a bit disappointed in the fact that the stove didn't work properly and that the water pressure in the kitchen was awful but really how much time do you spend in the kitchen when you have a view like that? Also disappointed in the fess that were attached to the property (ie: cleaning). This was my first VRBO and I would prefer to see the fees upfront as they doubled the cost of this rental.

"Penthouse"

 • 5 of 5

This isn't a high end rental as far as furnishings go, but it was clean and comfortable. You can't beat the location. It was a short walk to a beautiful beach (downhill) and had a fabulous view from the spacious deck.

Great view!

 • 3 of 5

This is an older home with some minor needs but the view is absolutely worth the stay.

The walk to to the beach was lovely, the beach itself? Incredible! Only a short walk to Devil's punchbowl. A lovely area to walk, hike or cycle but we also saw whales at Rodea Point, take a left out of the driveway and you'll eventually find it.

Beautiful views and Quiet location

 • 3 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet place to get away, with easy access to the beach (little steep, but fairly easy) this is a great place. The views are phenomenal and the deck is definitely a bonus. The cleaning team could do a little better on detailing, but the beds and kitchen and bathroom were fair emough. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
