Why Melissa and Bill Regan chose Northwest

The bay, gorgeous sunsets and regional golf not to mention the proximity to Traverse City, Elk Rapids Charlevoix and Petoskey completely sold us!

What makes this cottage unique

Our family had been looking for a lake front property for a mini family reunion. After a extensive search, and with another family member's recommendation we settled on this property and location. Melissa our contact was extremely responsive to our questions, no matter how many times we asked the same question over a 6 month period. She had put together a local list of all the good stuff to do, cutting down on our exploration time which suited us just fine. The home is exactly as advertised if not better, everything worked very well and pretty much turn key. Best part of the day were the sunsets. If your looking for beach front log cabin this would be the one.

Owner's Response: Thank-you Randy for your wonderful review! We were so happy you enjoyed the sunsets and family time on beautiful Grand Traverse Bay. It was a pleasure to hear about the adventures your family enjoyed. The fishing charter trip (great catch)and grilled lake trout family dinner afterward and great local golf! . We truly hope you will come back in the future for more Northern Michigan fun!

great family vacation home

  • 5 of 5

This home has everything you need. The owners have gone out of their way to make this house a home for everyone who visits. The view and the water is just amazing. Watching the sun rise and set was just amazing. We enjoyed our morning coffee sitting outside in the rocking chairs with the waterfront view and mother nature all around us. We saw chipmunks, deer, rabbits, hummingbirds, and down the road we saw a goat!! Mother nature at its finest!! Beautiful home the owners are amazing thank you for sharing your home with us!!

I recommend this home!!

We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a quiet lake-front ‘cabin’ for the whole family of 8 (aunt and grandma included) and what we found was much more than a ‘cabin’, this is a wonderful house seating in a very private lot on the East shore of lake Michigan.

The house is pristine.

The place was so comfortable that we did not have the need to go anywhere else!

Our kids (late teens, early twenties) found plenty to do kayaking, swimming, rock collecting and ‘hanging out’ by the fire. When it rained, they got busy playing pool and Ping-Pong.

Grandma enjoyed cooking some Italian meals on the fully equipped kitchen.

The view from the living room and the two bedrooms facing the lake is incredible, if you leave the windows open, you will hear the sound of the water, as if you were sleeping outside.

If by any chance Lake Michigan is not enough (I doubt it), Torch Lake is a 10-minute drive from the house.

Melissa, our host, was incredibly kind, checking to make sure everything was OK but without being intrusive.

Book without hesitation, the pictures are good but once you see the house and the setting, you will realize that you got more than you thought you would.

We are hoping to return to Cedarwood Shores as soon as we can.

B & family.

PS: We also found that the beach is loaded with beautiful Petoskey stones. One of the previous guests said that they might have picked them all up, not true, there are enough stones for every future guest for several lifetimes. A useful tip, go to the water right in front of the house, pickup a handful of wet stones without looking, and at least 1 or 2 out of 10 that will be a Petoskey stone.

relaxing cottage

  • 5 of 5

our extended family loved our time at this adorable cottage. other than a day trip to mackinac island, we spent every minute of our week on the beach, looking for stones, swimming, rocking on the porch, making s'mores in the firepit, watching beautiful sunsets, and playing games inside and outdoors. the house was spotless (and I am pretty picky about that!). the owners are wonderful to deal with and we felt very welcomed from our first inquiry about the home. we loved it so much we are planning a return trip in the fall and if all goes as we hope, a visit next summer again!

Melissa and Bill have created a beautiful getaway for all types of vacationers. My family loved every part of our stay. The home is warm and comfortable, and made inviting by our hosts. Our daughter and her friend loved staying in the room above the garage, while my husband and I stayed on the main floor. The setting could not be any more perfect for this home. Surrounded by trees, a beautiful back yard...and the beach. We all had fun day and night by and in the water...swimming, kayaking, rock hunting, relaxing, and taking photos. The sunset and stars are an extraordinary. Not far from the home are beautiful beaches where more rock hunting will provide you with millions of year old treasures. We visited many surrounding towns and went zip lining, parasailing, hiking, and enjoyed the arts, and unique food venues. Melissa is a genuine, humble and delightful person that will help you plan a memorable getaway. My family was able to enjoy adventurous activities while I took the more relaxing avenue since I have a brain injury. ps...I didn't forget you all Melissa...just coming around from a bad stroke...will send more sunset and night pictures as I continue my healing.

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much for the kind and thoughtful review! It was honestly a delight to have your family stay with us and you really made our 1st summer of renting special with the gorgeous "stars at night"cabin photograph and your wonderful gifts for my girls upon your departure! We were so happy to know that you and your family enjoyed the lake and beach and kayaks during your visit. I even took my girls zip lining last summer after you told me how much fun it was for your daughter and her friend! Mostly I am so happy that you are on your way to recovery and if we can help your family in any way with a short or long stay please let us know! We loved knowing that your family was having a wonderful time together!

Gorgeous Home

  • 4 of 5

***We actually stayed here in August of 2014***

First off, I have to say, the owners are wonderful and always available if help was needed...we think that is THE most important part when renting a place...

This house is GORGEOUS - seriously, GORGEOUS. The "3 level" back yard was awesome - grassy area first, then take steps down to fire-pit then couple more steps to the beach - very cool! The pictures of the inside do not do this house justice!

The layout of the house was fantastic for us - we had another family come stay with us - the big bedroom, that is above the garage and somewhat "separated" from the rest of the house, was perfect for the kids. Only thing I would suggest is to make that room (because it was SO spacious) more of a "bunk-room", replace old TV and/or, if anything else, replace the hideaway couch.

Basement was awesome and kept kids entertained when the weather was rainy...

They had plenty of life-jackets and water shoes for use when using the Kayaks (which was REALLY cool)...

My favorite part of the stay was searching for petoskey stones - I found a couple really nice ones!

We would rent this place again and again but the very rocky-bottom beach made it really hard for all the kids to swim with ease.

Here's the MOST MEMORABLE event - that will stay in the #1 spot forever....I was sitting outside on the steps, looking out at the water (at 2am, the night of arrival), after spending all evening unpacking and getting everything in place for the week. As I stood up and turned around to head back inside I was greeted by a BLACK BEAR who was only about 20 feet away. Needless to say, we scared the crap out of each other!! He took off one way and I ran into the house. Next day, we found trash cans overturned as did the neighbors on the street. Apparently there hadn't been a black bear sighting anywhere near the area in over 5 years.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your review and your wonderful story about the bear! I remember talking with your husband and he said you all had a great sense of humor about it:-) Many of our guests have asked if he/she will be back. We haven't seen any bears since, but the Bald Eagle keeps showing up in the mornings. We loved having your family stay at our home and we were truly happy that you and your husband and sons all had so much fun!
