Built in the 1940's by famed fly fishing guide Jim Wakeley, our 'River Cabin' is located at the historic Wakeley Bridge. 'Uncle Jim' purchased the property during World War II and began developing the property one building at a time. As a second generation fly fishing guide, my family and I are working to keep the memory of Jim Wakeley alive and share our love of the river. The cabin is nestled along the world famous 'Holy Waters', a 'fly's only', 'catch and release' section on the AuSable. The cabin is just a short drive to the North and South Branches of the river.
Canoe and kayak rentals are available on site for rental; along with the opportunity to hire Capt. Dave to take you on a memorable fly fishing float on the beautiful AuSable.
For the golf enthusiast we are only a short drive away from both, Forest Dunes Golf Club and Garland Golf Resort. For the hikers, bikers and bird watchers the cabin is three miles from Wakeley Lake, a beautiful part of the Huron-Mainistee National Forest area with miles of trails with loon and eagle sightings on a regular basis.
The quiet and cozy cabin offers two bedrooms with a full size bed in each, full kitchen with living area including a couch, for additional sleeping. Dishes and linens are supplied along with a charcoal grill. There is a riverside fire pit for enjoying the summer evenings.
Whether you are fly-fishing, canoeing or simply relaxing our cabin provides it all.

About Colleen Wyss
Second generation fly fishing guide taught by the famed Jim Wakeley. My wife and I bought the property in 1978 raised our three children here and continue to enjoy having our four grandchildren enjoy it also.
Colleen Wyss purchased this Cabin in 1978
Why Colleen Wyss chose Grayling
Our Aunt wanted the property to stay in the family so after the sudden death of our Uncle Jim we bought it from her to continue the traditions that they started.
What makes this Cabin unique
We love the River and cannot imagine ever not being here. The view of the River is spectacular and fishing is great. So nice to be able to walk out and be right at the riverfront.

Nature Lover's Paradise
This little cabin is situated on a beautiful stretch of the Main Branch of the AuSable River. It is quiet and peaceful with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. There is an outdoor fire ring on the river bank so we were able to enjoy nightly campfires. Colleen is an excellent hostess and took care to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay.
Me and a buddy stayed for 6 nights and the beds were very confy and they cabin was clean. dishes and pots and pans were all there and we needed nothing but our own food. We enjoyed our stay and Coleen can rent you a canoe and bring you to up the river to fish and float. We would stay at this cabin again, the river is 75ft from the front door and you can fish right at the cabin which is nice. Nice place to stay and close to town also. Easy access to other fishing spots.
This cabin is in a great location right on the river. We loved how clean and comfortable the cabin was and how friendly the renters were. We were able to rent kayaks and end right at the cabin! The decor is beautiful with log furniture and great art to reflect the area and it's history. You can also book fishing charters with owner on the Holy Waters of the AuSable. Overall great atmosphere, great price and would 100% book again.
So glad you enjoyed your stay at our "historic" cabin. Hope you can return this summer and kayak down our beautiful AuSable River.
100% satisfactory. Would rent again in a heartbeat. The place is clean and large enough for at least four people. You can charter river fishing, kayaking or canoeing right from the owners on site and and up right at your front door. Colleen and Dave are the best and most wonderful hosts. Definitely five star
