Quirky that meets expectations

  • 3 of 5

I rated this home a three partially because of my own experience and partially because of the experience of others that were with on the trip. When I say three stars what I mean is "meets expectations" where as 4 would be above, and 5 would be significantly exceeds. Below I try to be quite fair in my explanation for my rating. I hope it's helpful.

Pros:

In my opinion, the home was beautiful because of how unique it was. Some of the more traditional folks in my party found the design to be awkward, so if you are traveling with people who value tradition in a home, be advised they may not be thrilled. It was also very private and quiet. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for cooking. It was located roughly an hour away from the Great Sand Dunes National Park, which for us was a reasonable driving distance to visit that attraction for a day. Lastly, Keri was very accommodating and very prompt on answering any inquiries. There was a slight mix up with the code when we arrived at the house and it was remedied almost immediately. She also was flexible with accommodating a later checkout for us on our departure date which was very much appreciated.

Cons:

Our first impressions of house were not very good, which for some tarnished the entire experience. We were all a little leery because we weren't expecting to be driving on gravel roads to get to the house. Also, when we pulled into the driveway, there was a for sale sign posted which immediately made me start questioning the validity of the posting. I can assure you this IS a valid rental, however. Furthermore, when we got into the house, it smelled strongly of smoke on both levels. I don't attribute this to Keri as her policy clearly states "no smoking". We aired the house out and never had the problem again, though the fabrics maintained a mustiness. The shower on the first floor is technically a walk in shower, but it is raised 8" off the floor, which I missed initially when booking the house. Also, there was a problem with sand in the water. In the arrival book, it explains how to address the problem, but it was still a bit off-putting. Also, a description of where beds were located upstairs was not accurate and there was direction in the house to explicitly not move any of the furniture around. It was two singles and a double in the large bedroom and one queen in the other bedroom.

Overall a fair stay. The surrounding scenery was amazing. Just know this home has some quirks.

Perfect quiet get-away!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in Crestone staying in this beautiful house out on "the Baca." The mountain view from the master bedroom and balcony is amazing--our teen was disappointed that mom and dad had dibs on the room. We were concerned that the water might have a "well" taste, but it's delicious. With the cool mountain air at night, the fans kept us plenty cool, as well. We met up with some old friends to do some hiking, but the trails from outside town and from the Liberty Gate entrance to Great Sand Dunes are all clearly marked and easy to follow. We couldn't fit in a trail ride from the nearby stable and couldn't stay awake long enough to see the stars--we may have to go back!

Had very good time in Crestone

  • 5 of 5

We stay at the house for 4 nights and absolutely love that place!

It is so comfortable and inviting with fantastic scenery around! Energy of the house is amazing -after 15 minutes in the house we fell at home.

The house very well equipped and there is enough room for 6-8 people (probably even more if they are the couples). Seven of us felt great there.

Thank you Keri!

We would like to rent the house again for our next trip in Crestone.

P.S. I would recommend to contact the owner if you plan to rent the house and have a severe pet allergy – although house was really clean, one person in our group has a an allergy and had some issue there.
