Overview

About the property

Spectaular views, spacious contemporary open plan living space, 3BR, 2BR

Begin each day with breathtaking Medomak River water views from Jacobs Place, a unique and beautifully renovated 1884 Cape-style Saltwater Farm set on 15 acres of rolling meadows. This historic property has recently been transformed and redecorated by a team of architects and interior designers and features a modern architectural interior with big open spaces, taking great care to respect the original structure and features. This Maine home is luxuriously appointed and has been equipped to a very high standard to enable the owners and guests to enjoy it year-round. Every season offers it's particular charm - Spring and Summer offer the classic Maine Vacationland experience, Fall colors are beautiful and we love to spend late afternoons after a hike in front of the outdoor granite fireplace (For Fall Foliage information, go to http://www.maine.gov/dacf/mfs/projects/fall_foliage/index.shtml). Winter and especially the Holiday Season is a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful interiors and chef's kitchen.

Its New England coastal retreat style, enhanced by locally sourced antiques and unique decorative touches, provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere and is a wonderful place for families and friends to gather in a cozy and very private setting.

There are breathtaking views from the entire ground floor, including the contemporary country-style Chef’s kitchen with state of the art stainless appliances as well as cherry-wood countertops.

Sliding doors from the living/dining area open onto the spacious curved deck that runs the length of the home with steps leading down to the cobblestone circular patio area, which is equipped with a granite fireplace. Complete with built-in seating and LED riser lights, the space extends indoor entertaining outdoors.

The 2400 sqft home has a large open concept living/dining/kitchen space, mixing contemporary design with historic architectural features and custom-built furniture. The spacious ground floor master suite has deck access and a spa-style ensuite bathroom. Upstairs, the 2-room guest suite, 2nd guest room and family/media room offer plenty of additional space.

Your days might start (early or later…) with a morning walk down to the water, possibly with a thermos of coffee as we often do, to sit and enjoy the peaceful views from the bench installed at the water’s edge. Or for those of you so inclined, do your morning exercises watching the sun rise. I myself will tend to open the deck doors from the master bedroom and watch the view from there with my first cup of coffee. You will want to spend time relaxing on the elevated deck while planning trips to the beach or some of the nearby villages and towns such as Damariscotta, Rockland or Camden to name a few. Further afield, you will find spectacular hiking trails available in Camden Hills State Park or Acadia National Park.

If you don’t feel like going out for dinner, get lobster from a local supplier or decide to cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen or simply use the large gas grill on the deck for a simple barbecue. Later in the evening, light a fire in the outdoors granite fireplace, cook smores or just enjoy conversation with your friends and family.

This home was the featured remodel on the DIY Network show Blog Cabin 2012.

About Mia Dee

We, Jim and Mia, come from a multinational background and have lived and worked in many different places throughout the world. Currently we divide our time between Europe and USA with frequent stays in Asia. We continue to enjoy travelling both for work and pleasure, and having spent several vacations in Maine, we fell absolutely in love with the mid-coast area and were lucky enough to drive past our dream home one day which happened to be for sale. We plan to use this wonderful house as much as possible ourselves, and have furnished and equipped it as such - as a home we dream of returning to at any time of year and one we are delighted to share with friends and renters who share our love for beautiful spaces inside and out. We speak English, German, French and Danish.

Mia Dee purchased this house in 2013

Why Mia Dee chose Mid-Coast & Islands

While vacationing in the Mid-Coast Region, we drove past this unique property one rainy day by pure coincidence and saw a 'for sale' sign. We were enchanted by the stunning views as well as the cosy look and feel of the home and figured “it was just meant to be”. Apart from being a very beautiful home, we love the fact that it has a history going back to 1884. We have albums at the house documenting the extensive remodelling and renovations which were carried out during 2012 when this place was the featured home in the DIY Network's programme 'Blog Cabin'.

What makes this house unique

When planning the renovation of this home, great care was taken to respect the original structure and features and a great effort was made to use many reclaimed materials, either by incorporating them in the new structure such as the original red double front door, now dividing the living space from the hallway leading to the master bedroom suite where again the beautiful wooden paneling is made of the house’s original inside doors. Wooden gutters were used both on custom-built tables as was barnwood reclaimed from an old structure. We very much feel that many parts of the old home which was build in 1884 continue to live on and we hope it will continue to do so for many generations to come.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We greatly enjoyed our stay in your home, not only for the rest and quiet but also for the appreciation for such a tasteful and thoughtful design. We are a couple with a heightened design sensibility and awareness of our surroundings and found in your home a similar energy. We could also sense the partnership in the home design and in the way that simple yet thoughtful touches (such as the communal bathroom sink as opposed to separate sinks) reflect a loving home. We would consider ourselves fortunate to visit again.

Incredible rental, pictures do it no justice!

  • 5 of 5

This home is a great rental, pictures do not lie. Mia is great, responds immediately and was incredible to work with. Home is gorgeous, yard is amazing, you can walk the waterfront all day and explore. Kids loved it even while still snow covered. Great to wake up to turkeys running through yard and all kinds of cool wildlife. Great waking paths all over area to walk and hike. Far enough away to disconnect and relax yet close to great dining and places to shop. Outdoor fireplace is amazing, great for sitting around the fire and making smores! Master spa tub is the real deal! Very relaxing home. We will be back! We need to find the DYI blog cabin show to see the history now.

WONDERFUL PLACE

  • 5 of 5

loved our stay, the house was amazing...all inspiring design and detail. The layout was great with plenty of room, the kids could hang out upstairs in the game room while we had the downstairs to ourselves. the trail across the street is a must (we hiked it every morning), a nice 2 mile loop with a cool secluded pond to view, the kids loved it! Plus plenty of coastline to explore which is always peaceful and adventurous. look forward to our next stay.

Fabulous Get Away !

  • 5 of 5

My family of 6 enjoyed a few days here after Christmas. It was just what we needed to spend a little time together away from the hustle of our everyday life. The house is impeccable and the property is just gorgeous. Each morning we would walk down to the waterfront and later in the afternoon hike in the mountains just across the way. I have 4 boys so they enjoyed roaming the property and creating the greatest adventures! The master bedroom was lovely and private, so the children took over the upstairs and it was plenty of room for all! The kitchen was a favorite for me, a great place to gather and all the amenities one could want, even a few condiments that we had forgotten! Mia was a delight to work with and I thank her and her husband for allowing us to spend a lovely holiday in their very cosy home. We all hope to go back someday! :)

Elegance and Comfort Combined

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at Jacob’s for 4 nights in February - not your typical February vacation destination but it was exactly as we hoped it would be. The house itself is warm and inviting and incredibly comfortable. The layout works perfectly for people who want to spend time together as well as sneak off for some alone time. The TV is in a room off to the side upstairs which means no constant noise blaring through the common living space. The furniture is lovely and comfy, a rare combination. The whole house is bright and cheerful, yet elegantly appointed. The kitchen is loaded with just about anything you could possibly need to make just about any meal you could possibly imagine. The property too, is spectacularly beautiful – a large meadow sloping down to the majestic ocean. I could sit in the living room and stare out at the ocean for hours if not for the need to explore the myriad of adorable towns in the Waldoboro area. The owners are wonderful and responsive and communicative – all of our questions were answered before we even showed up at the house. Everything about our vacation was great. It was incredibly hard to leave when the time came. I hope beyond hope that our paths cross with this stunning property again.

Perfect getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend away from it all! The home is gorgeous and well appointed for 2 or a whole family. Ample space to quietly read while watching it snow or join the fun in the upstairs game room. The Family sized kitchen made meals a breeze. The owners were fantastically easy to arrange our stay with and were very accommodating . We stayed during heavier than anticipated snowstorms and were well taken care of by the properties caretaker with snow removal for our convenience. We look forward to returning.

Wonderful Family Thanksgiving in Maine

  • 5 of 5

Great three days of unwinding in this beautifully designed home. Owners were fantastic, thoroughly communicating on all aspects of the home and the area. It felt more like we were staying at a good friends house rather than a rental. Our family with older kids (19, 18, and 14) really love the home, the views, and being away from everything. We spent day after Thanksgiving in Freeport at LL Bean and all the outlets. Would definitely come back.
