About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 5

Cooler weather mixed with the Island's slower pace; fall has arrived. Enjoy a privet surround and the garden's southerly orientation define the outdoor living space, offering both warm sunshine and dappled shade. Enjoy mornings on the slate terrace, take time out for sunbathing or an afternoon of reading.Evenings the sheltered grounds offer stargazers a clarity unique to Nantucket. Birds abound.

The first floor plan is open, the furnishings and art collection selected by and for cognoscenti, and the kitchen designed by a serious cook. When day is done, there's a cozy, tucked away, sky lighted, first floor bedroom & adjacent bath offering privacy to a second couple.

The second floor master bedroom suite includes a side room with day bed, foyer, and bath. Don't even lift your head from the pillow to watch the sunrise to the east, or the birds staging themselves for breakfast amid the canopy of branches to the west. The side room also enjoys a westerly view of the meadow behind the property. The sunsets are spectacular!

Just steps away form the historic 'Three Bricks' on magnificent, elm shaded, upper Main Street; quiet, private Howard Court is a short, five minute walk to Town center. Designed for a totally self-indulgent summer idyll, the property is perfectly located, allowing occupants and their guests plenty of flexibility for both at-home or walking distance activities, without the need for a car; though the property does provide off-street parking for one vehicle.

Nantucket, 'one of the most perfectly preserved examples of 19th century architecture in America.' and the once Whaling Capitol of the World pairs its unique history with pristine beaches, fishing & sailing, miles of bicycle & nature trails, absolutely world class restaurants, galleries and distinctive shopping. It's no wonder so many people return year after year.

About Porter and Jeff Shehab

My husband and I met on the Island in the mid '80's and have family that live here year round. We are happily raising our family in New Jersey on a small farm. While we enjoy raising and showing Lincoln Sheep we stay busy with all the critters! If we do not get back to your email straight away it is because of the joys of country living.*** Please note for security reasons we prefer to speak with the renter prior to securing your dates. We want to protect you and ourselves from any fraud/scams. We will never ask payment to be wired for that very reason.

Porter and Jeff Shehab purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Porter and Jeff Shehab chose Nantucket Island

We had been looking for a small in-town property. Seeing this cottage tucked away, we knew immediately it was exactly what we were hoping for. The side streets of downtown lend themselves to wandering. Just off the beaten path and yet a 5 minute walk to the heart of town.

What makes this cottage unique

Nestled among the gardens on a quaint shell lane in the historic center of Nantucket Town, this circa 1827/1850 carriage house offers historic charm while providing the comforts of modern amenities and gracious living. It's a real life fairy tale cottage. Some call it magical!

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall our cottage covers it all.

Daffodil weekend. A Joyful time of year to kick off springs first kiss with flowers abound. Truly the daffodil is a marvel of splendor with intricate details. Bartlett farms has a wonderful island display. The beaches are yours for the walking, jogging, or sheer beauty of just watching the waves. This brisk time of year the island is buzzing as the pace takes on, "summers almost here" atmosphere. If your anxious to get away and relax our tucked away cottage is just the spot.

As summer arrives so does the bustle of beach goers. If you are unfamiliar with the island or have been able to enjoy the shores too often to count we are happy to help with activities.

Should fall-Autums last caress- be your retreat time for R&R few spots could be sweeter.

So quaint and beautifully appointed inside and out!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed exploring Nantucket and it started by feeling like we belonged. The moment we passed through the garden gate we were charmed. The house is small but cleverly designed so you have everything you need. The furniture and artwork are high end and lend the feeling of being home and not in a rental. Every window has a peak of greenery which lends to the serenity. We walked to and from downtown for touring and dinners. A perfect location.

Charming, Cozy, and Comfortable Gem in Town

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying at Porter's charming cottage this May and I am still talking about how much I loved it! It's hard to pick a favorite feature of the cottage because it was all so well-suited for our needs. First, the location couldn't be better. Walkable to town (about 7-10 minutes) yet gloriously serene and secluded given the gardens and quiet street. The cottage itself is that perfect balance of charm and functionality/comfort. I marveled at the gorgeous beams running through the downstairs space and was impressed with the decor. While we didn't cook, the kitchen is incredibly appointed with a beautiful window overlooking a meadow (so pretty!). The bedrooms are extremely comfortable and the beds are outfitted very high quality bedding. For those who hope to spend time outside, we truly loved relaxing on the patio and enjoying the beautiful, lush, sun-filled gardens.

Last, Porter is a true pleasure to work with. For example, when I had a wi-fi connectivity problem, she was immediately responsive via phone and text until we resolved it, which was so appreciated. We are already planning our Nantucket weekend at the cottage for 2018!

A charming and convenient cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently enjoyed a week in this charming home and garden. The home is very well provisioned -- the kitchen has top of the line modern appliances. The decor includes many original works of art and is traditional but comfortable -- in keeping with Nantucket itself. The garden is a special oasis, and we enjoyed breakfasts and dinners on the patio. This lovely home was perfect for our family of four with our young adult daughters, but would work well with families with younger children or two couples. It is within walking distance to restaurants, shops and museums. A hidden gem!

Delightful Cottage in Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Simply delightful in every respect and detail. The location is private, with a very short walk to Main Street and downtown, yet convenient access for driving to any other location on the island, The cottage itself is a newly restored historic gem with every modern convenience, comfortable, clean, and tastefully decorated. Bedrooms are nice with good storage, and a bathroom on each floor. The kitchen idea for meal preparation, with comfortable inside or outside patio dining, and a barbeque grill. The living room is great for relaxing, reading, or watching TV/movies. The owners are pleasant and helpful, and everything needed for your stay is supplied. You will not be disappointed! Highly recommended.
