Located in the Ocotal gated community. Spectacular ocean views, beautiful surroundings, serenity, comfort, security and adventure can all be yours when you vacation in our villa. Bahia Pez Vela is set in a lush tropical cove with a black sand beach, poolside restaurant and bar and an additional pool only steps from the villa. You will experience the finest amenities with a well equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms and in-villa laundry facilities. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is there to assist you with tours, travel suggestions and local activities. There are concierge, 24 hour security, maintenance and maid services available throughout your stay. You will be very pleased with the accommodating and professional approach of the office staff who provide the concierge service and will do the best they can to ensure your needs and desires are met. You will find the office staff can communicate effectively with you in English and Spanish.
Bahia Pez Vela is located in the state of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Guanacaste is a great place to visit year round, with lush green hillsides during the rainy season, incredible lightning shows in June and July, local fiestas during December, January and February and always beautiful beaches. You can take part in deep sea fishing leaving from your beach. Costa Rica is known as an excellent birding location with many varieties of birds right on the property and many more in the near by areas. Scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts will be in 7th heaven because of the easy access to prime time diving. There are many places to go hiking including a vigorous walk with fabulous ocean views in the Ocotal loop just outside the property. You won't want to miss the areas claim to fame, the adventurous and scenic zip lines. You will enjoy eating out at the variety of restaurants and 'sodas', all providing great food. If you prefer to prepare your meals in the well-equipped kitchen in the villa, there are excellent grocery stores (Auto Mercado and Super Luperon) and local fruit stands that provide all that you will need for your home-cooked meals. You can be assured of fun in the sun everywhere you go, especially at the beaches and pools.
You will feel secure because of the gated guard house and the 24 hour security. Each of the guards are personable, friendly and your safety is their main concern, as well as you having a wonderful time.
Bahia Pez Vela is a superbly family oriented resort, as well as the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. We have found all of the guests to be friendly, interesting and from all over the world. You will fit right in!
Some of our favorite activities include the Palo Verde River Tour, the Rincon de la Vieja adventure tour, Witch's Rock Canopy (zip line) Tour, a sunset cruise and any fiesta that happens to be in the area. Visiting the lovely beaches in the area, as well as the restaurants and shopping are always fun.

The home was spacious, clean and had a nice view. Was perfect for our family. The pool and property were well maintained and the beach was calm and private even during Christmas break. We drove to coco beach every night for dinner which was a 10-15 minute drive and had delicious food options. Would love to return next year!

Amazing Condo and Resort

My family and I stayed at this condo in March 2018 and had a wonderful stay! The owner's were delightful to work with and had everything ready upon our arrival. The condo was spotless and had everything we needed. We loved having a smaller pool option near the condo. It was great for our children and provided amazing views and an occasional monkey show in the trees! We felt welcomed by everyone at Bahia Pez Vela and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the resort location, staff and grounds. The pool, beach and restaurant were all amazing and we loved getting to know the staff at the pool restaurant, Maracuya. The staff went out of their way to provide the best customer service and the food quality was amazing! It really was some of the best food we had in Costa Rica. All in all, this condo and resort exceeded and beyond met our expectation's! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fabulous vacation!

Serene location with amazing views

We were 6 adults, parents and adult children (23-26 yrs) and found the layout to be good. The villa was spotless and cool upon our arrival and check-in was very easy. The villa is very peaceful, located at the end of a row with 1 additional unit next to it before the upper pool area. The upper pool is perfect with an infinity pool and views to the ocean. The views were the best part of staying in this unit as opposed others that were at the bottom of the resort. Chris is the 2nd best part of renting this villa, as he's extremely helpful, efficient, and responsive. We had a car which is ideal if you stay in this resort as it's a 15 minute drive to the grocery store in Playas del Coco. It's only 45 minutes to Liberia airport, 1 hr to Tamarindo, and 1.5 hrs to Rincon de la Vieja Park. The location is ideal for exploring the area, or just hanging out and enjoying the view. The villa is exactly like the pictures with great views from 2 upper bedrooms and the main living area. It has a brand new BBQ, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave and is well stocked for cooking. The grounds are well maintained and were green and full of flowers during our visit. The restaurant, Picante, is an open air, poolside dining area and bar with good food and friendly staff. You can rent paddle boards, kayaks, snorkle gear and book tours through the office. Both units on each side of us were rented while we were there yet it was still very quiet.

Amazing people!

We just came home from a week at this comfortable and spacious villa. The pools are gorgeous and the resort itself is wonderful. But the best thing about staying here is the amazing people. First of all, the owner is super accommodating and stayed in constant contact with us. We had some major difficulties with our rental car situation when we first got there, and he made arrangements through the resort for a driver to come pick us up when we were stranded. Secondly, the resort staff are top notch! They took amazing care of us, from making dinner reservations, arranging a covid test at the villa, lining up surf lessons, recommending fabulous sight-seeing, calling the airline for us to inquire about our lost luggage, and arranging an alternative rental car for us to be delivered directly to the villa for no extra charge. I can't say enough about how wonderful it is to have a team of people helping you like this when you are trying to navigate a foreign country. We have stayed in dozens of VRBO homes, and I have never encountered this level of attention, support and kindness. Pura Vida!

Wonderful Villa

We spent five blissful weeks in this beautiful villa. If you are considering staying at Villa California stop considering and just book it! The owners are highly responsive and the villa has everything you could want and more. The kitchen is wonderfully stocked with everything you could ever need for home cooked meals and if you prefer to dine out the resort restaurant also serves gourmet meals that are delicious. The beds are very comfortable and you can see all the care and attention to detail Chris and Alison have put into their home. There is a pool right around the corner with only one villa between you and the pool. The views are spectacular with outdoor furniture to sit and enjoy sunrises and sunsets with many tropical birds, monkeys and hummingbirds. Can’t say enough about how lovely this villa is. Thankyou Chris and Alison for creating and sharing your oasis with us! Pura Vida! ❤️

Beautiful oasis

We recommend this property to anyone looking for beauty and comfort. The owners were wonderful to work with and really went out of their way with itinerary ideas to help us have a wonderful trip. This was my third stay at this villa. I enjoyed it as always, the view is amazing, how calming and resourceful it is to sit on the balcony in the morning with my coffee and admire nature at it's best. Gorgeous View!

We had a great time at Villa California over New Year's! The weather was so warm, and the view from the villa is SPECTACULAR. Troops of monkeys passed through the trees as we sat and watched the ocean. The villa had everything we needed. The pools at the resort are very nice, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant there is delicious, as well.

Spacious, functional and fantastic views...we had a good time. Great to see the summer season. It was crazy seeing the weather phenomenon. Even when cloudy and misting or rainy you could still do so much which is weird for a Midwest mindset:-) Loved viewing the natural setting and seeing nature. Howling monkeys, dragonfly's, birds, bees, and many plants and flowers. Our view was above the treetops...amazing and busy nature scenes. The place itself was good and owners responsive. Be prepared to work your legs out... seriously steep hills but fun to get to our Villa. Loved that you could get beach front service for water related activities. My small picky point is inside furniture ... king bed was tough for a week. However, we LOVED the screen doors and the view all over the Villa! So overall --price, view, space, and our needs -- totally met! We ❤️ Bahia Pez Vela in Costa Rica!!!

Everything we wanted in a base for our CR vacation

Villa California is a well maintained home with all the amenities and a lovely view of the Pacific. Only an hour from the airport at Liberia and close to Playa Coco plus Playa Ocotal (and the delightful Father Rooster beach restaurant) and even a small beach cove directly below the villa (200+ ft down - you have to drive). We loved the place.

Our stay at Villa California

We were 4 adults that stayed at Villa California for the month of February. We could all enjoy privacy in this spacious villa when we needed it. It was relaxful when we needed it, it was soul searching at times. However most of our time was focused on exploring Costa Rica (Monteverde, Paulo Verde, Nicoya, many small villages and beaches around and sail boating on the Pacific). Could not have asked for anything better. There was absolutely no problems with the water (we dranked it for the whole month). A word about the ownwers Chris and Allison they were absolutely fantastic in helping us put this trip together. Thank you very much Lise Ottawa Ontario Canada

Loved everything about it

We stayed here for a week in early January. We were 5 people: 2 small children aged 2 and 4, their parents, and one grandparent. The place could easily have accommodated another couple, too, but was perfect for our group. Apartment was clean, well-appointed, tastefully decorated, and there were plenty of towels and sheets to make up for not having a cleaner in during our stay ( rent covers 1 cleaning which in our case was after the stay). There was also a washing machine and dryer, which we used, a small enclosed outdoor area tonhang towels and swimsuits and to wash them off if needed. The views were amazing, and the place was quiet. Not all the light bulbs worked, but I'm sure that if I'd have asked the office they would have replaced. The condo is part of an immaculate resort with good (if slow - Costa-rican style) service, and there are always people around cleaning and pruning with a smile. Resort services, including security and staff, always made us feel more than welcome. Location was perfect for a winter get-away. You will need a car here, and then you should use it for some sight seeing. Great beaches, a beautiful waterfall, and a nature reserve with plenty of animals, all within 1.5 hours drive. Not always great roads. We had a 4x4. Still, others we met at the resort never left the grounds. Beautiful onsite beach (you'll want to drive down because it's a steep unpaved walk down and then up again), pools by the beach, small infinity pool right by the villa, shared by only about 4 other villas (we often had it to ourselves). It was really a dream holiday, and the home we stayed in was really beautiful. Thanks, Chris and Allison!

Wonderful time

Villa California at Bahía Pez Vela in Guanacaste has an excellent location and wonderful service from the staff. It is really recommend to families with little kids due its near little pool. The beach is marvelous and the site in general is in good conditions. I would come back. The only thing I would be careful of is from water, cause some of us got sick drinking the tube water. The size of the condo is appropriate to have the 8 people comfortable and having each own space without feeling crowed at the same space.

We stayed at Villa California this past January. Upon arrival, we were concerned that we might be too far from the action. The house was very well laid out, nicely furnished and spotless. We threw our stuff inside and went down to "Picantes" to figure things out. . We were immediately welcomed by the staff, had a couple drinks and started to get our bearings. With-in 2-3 days we were feeling like Ticos and so happy with Villa California. Start the day out side with coffee and the Magpies, enjoy a million dollar view of the bay. We were pretty active all day but we always looked forward to getting back to unwind at the villa. What a great place to relax if we choose or just catch our breath before going back to town. Don't be afraid to go out, we never felt unsafe. We would recommend the local watering holes. The locals are actually Ex-Pats who live there. They are always friendly and the best source of information. Our favorite was "La Vida Loco", it's right on the beach in Coco,( be brave, you're going to like it). The clubs down town are fine for music and such but the people there will most likely be tourist like your self. For nice sunset meal, "The Lookout", Good food, best beer selection and, great views. We did several zip lines, water falls, snorkeling, sun set cruise, Conchal Beach, Taramindo.... Over-all great vacation and the Villa California was always a great place to return to. We will be back. Thank you Chris and Allison for making your place available.

ocean breezes and starry nights

our family of six ( kids ages 20 to 13 ) thouroughly enjoyed villa california! the villa is well laid out and spacious. we especially loved the ocean view and the quietness of the location. it felt very private and kids were totally comfortable with just hanging out at the patio. there is also a smaller infinity pool steps away that was very seldom used by anyone other than ourselves! the villa is well stocked and even had some pool toys that could be used. it was very , very clean ( no dust bunnies lurking) and had all the conveniences you would need . the villa is gently used , and reflects an authentic costa rica decor. as a result, we all felt comfortable enough to walk around barefoot and in bathing suits! the flipside of that fabulous view is that there is a ten minute steep walk to the beach (and then back ). our kids did not seem to mind and i considered it a workout! the beach is beautiful and despite christmas week, was not crowded. our kids were able to do alot of snorkeling and earlier in the week , when the waves were larger , some boogey boarding. the pool and shower at the beach were an added bonus, as was the restaurant , picantes ; where the kids would like to order cold cokes! the staff at the office, cesar and jacqui, were most helpful at arranging tours and drivers. next time we would come, we would rent a car to take full advantage of exploring the area. if you have older kids, gauchepelin is well worth the expense. chris , the owner of villa 37, was very helpful and prompt at responding to emails. he and his wife have a very lovely spot . thank you for making our first trip to costa rica so memorable .

We are both California natives. In 2005 when Allison was headed out on vacation with a girlfriend who has a home in Playa Hermosa, Chris said, 'Take a look at property while you are there.' We had vacationed at Hotel Ocotal in 2000 and really enjoyed the area. While visiting at my friend's home in Hermosa, she introduced me to a neighbor who was a real estate agent. The real estate agent showed me homes, property for development and Bahia Pez Vela. Buying in an established resort with security was most appealing. The villas were beautifully furnished with fabulous views. At the time, they were building the villas on the upper level. We chose #37 because of the view and proximity to the pool. We were the first and only owners of Villa 37 and we have been very pleased with our choice to buy at Bahia Pez Vela. Our first visit to our new villa was in January 2006. We have since enjoyed two trips a year to Costa Rica, with visits from family members and friends. Everyone has loved the villa, surrounding area and fun activities. It was a very good find and we look forward to sharing it with you.

Why they chose this property

It is beautiful with tropical weather all year. We can sit and relax for hours watching the ocean, the boats, the fish jumping, and dolphin and whales. With the binoculars, you can get a good view of Witch's Rock and the Papagayo Peninsula.
