About Eric and Vandy

We are a working couple living in Ventura county. We love Joshua Tree and have family ties there. While there for a visit, we came across the opportunity to buy this cabin and could not pass it up. The property has such a great location and great feeling and is very close to our family and friends' places. We hope our guests get as much enjoyment from their time there as we do.

Eric and Vandy purchased this house in 2013

Casita del Conejo Review

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing weekend at Casita del Conejo, which lives up to its name. We saw rabbits constantly, our dog loved spotting them, and we loved that she was welcome at this rental. The rental has every amenity you could need and then some, and with the proximity to the park, we never ran out of amazing things to do during our stay. The swing bench overlooking the valley is beyond picturesque and was perfect for morning coffee before hikes in the park. The owners Eric and Vandy are easy to reach and respond quickly to messages through VRBO, and everything at the rental is so well-appointed and organized that we never encountered any hiccups. It was so easy to feel at home right away. Eric and Vandy, we thank you greatly for a particular handbook about Joshua Tree that sits on the kitchen counter of this rental; we had a concise summary of the human history, lore, geology, ecology, and hikes in the park, right at our fingertips. It served us so much better than our scattered google searches and helped us feel that we got a well-rounded experience of the area in such a short time. Potential renters, you won't go wrong with this one, it's well worth its price and you'll absolutely enjoy your experience.

Great house near the park entrance

  • 5 of 5

Hot tub was used daily to soak our sore rock climbing muscles. Since it is out of town and near the NP, we saw numerous wildlife and signs of wildlife. Saw a desert tortoise, coyotes, rabbits, lizards and an owl. Also found paw prints from bobcats (we think). All within the yard. Really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Desert relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We loved this desert home! It was so clean and you couldn’t beat the proximity to the park! We took advantage of the hot tub every night! The kitchen was fully stocked with food plates, utensils, cookware, etc. Sitting on the back patio with a cozy fire and the desert mountain landscape was bliss. Thank you so much!!

Such a fun family weekend! Really enjoyed having just the four of us (my husband and I and our two kids) stay here over the weekend. Perfect to get right into Joshua Tree have fun in the park and then come back and relax at the house and take a dip in the hot tub. We just relaxed as a family and that was priceless! Eric and Vandy were very responsive and super helpful. Thank you and we would love to come back!

Perfect little place to explore Joshua Tree

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing little place. It is literally walking distance to JTNP. All the amenities required for a comfortable stay was provided. We had a fun time exploring the park and enjoying the night sky of course. With JTNP in your backyard the skies are about as dark you can expect.

Just a small thing... Not a complaint regarding the place, but just something to be aware of. As it's quite close to the park entrance, sometimes in the late morning there's big queue of cars right outside and a steady stream of cars going out of the park in the evenings. Maybe because this was kind of a semi long weekend. But, this shouldn't deter you from staying at this amazing place. I certainly would.

Perfect getaway cabin!

  • 4 of 5

If you love being right next to Joshua Tree National Park, then this is the one! Perfect proximity for park enthusiasts. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the views, being close to town, yet with a remote enough feel. The hot tub was great, nice big kitchen that was well stocked, good heating, cozy, clean, two bathrooms was nice as well.

The only two drawbacks for us personally, were that the road to the park was right outside the house, and traffic backed up quite a lot at times, taking away some of the privacy we had been wanting in the desert. This could have been due to the park being busier than usual on a winter holiday weekend. The peak hours of traffic were usually around breakfast time when the park opened, and later at sunset when the park was emptying. This might not matter to some guests because it was super quiet at bedtime and not an issue. The other thing was the bed was on the smallish side (full size) and hard to the point that we had sore backs in the morning. I do realize however that some folks enjoy a very firm mattress! So that's just a preference.

Other than those two personal preferences, I can't think of a better place to enjoy a Joshua Tree staycation, and if those two things are ok for you, I would definitely say give this one a try!
