Thanks for considering our home as your vacation home-away-from home....if you so choose, we hope you'll enjoy FIFTY FIVE as much we do!
We met on The Cape and have enjoyed living in Wellfleet for over 30 years.
Our interests lie in the arts, architecture, travel, food, hiking, biking, kayaking and the well-being of man and Mother Earth.
Newly 'retreaded', after maintaining a successful ceramic tile and stone business for 35 years, we built FIFTY FIVE with couples in mind.
Ted and Shelly Thomas purchased this house in 2013
The quintessential New England village filled with beauty, life and talents, unpretentiousness and general open-mindedness, Wellfleet is the essence of community. Wellfleet has been the destination for artists and literaries, beachcombers, surfers and nature lovers for generations.
The existence of the Cape Cod National Seashore along with The Wellfleet Audubon Sanctuary allows for the preservation of natural beauty and is there for your enjoyment. The many ocean and bay beaches, fresh water ponds, maritime history, galleries, fine restaurants and, in particularly, the shellfish industry and specifically, OYSTERS give Wellfleet a flavor to savor!
Built with ease-of-living in mind, the open floor plan and an entrance on all sides, high ceilings and natural light provide spaciousness. The outdoor patio is an extension of the living space.
The lower/back patio is not for tenant use. This is Jill's space).
Mirrored Master Bedroom Suites and central air conditioning provide maximum comfort.
A short walk into the village, 10' drive to the ocean, or hop on your bicycle and explore!
My family has been vacationing in Wellfleet for 5 consecutive summers, and this summer we landed a gem of a rental! My wife and I aren't overly discerning renters, but with 2 children in the 9-12 range we cherish amenities that usually prioritize function over form, but we pleasantly got both here. Located about 1 mile from the Wellfleet town center (food markets, ice cream shops, liquor store, etc), the house featured a main floor with a large foyer entrance (to prep all your gear for beach excursions) and walked into a modern open kitchen concept (all new appliances, tiling, pendant lighting, and island bar...my wifes fave feature) that flowed into the dining room/living room (flatscreen with cable/dvd), and had access points to a half bath/laundry-room (new front loading washer/dryer), and to the outdoor patio (which made shuttling food and drinks outside easy). The outdoor patio had a gas grill with plenty of dining and lounge space, and nicely manicured grounds. The upstairs featured 2 master bedroom suites, with a walk in closet that walked into the bathroom (all new with marble counters), and a walk in shower. Now the amenities that really make life cozy and comfortable: Central AC; WiFi; a kitchen that was fully stocked with kitchenware (pots, pans, cutting boards/knives, silverware, glassware, plateware, misc spices, and misc utensils); super fast ice maker; dishwasher; bed linens and pillows; bath towels; and lastly an outdoor shower. If I sound impressed, I was, and I highly recommend this as a beautiful Wellfleet summer rental.
The house is extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners really make you feel at home in their gem in Wellfleet.
This is a perfect vacation home for two couples: the house is perfectly maintained and is flush with amenities that make it easy to move in quickly with just a small suitcase for clothes. The linens are fresh and inviting; the kitchen is fully equipped and the pantry stocked with basics. The vegetable garden is charming and the outdoor space lovely. The owners' thoughtful attention to small details is reflected in the home's meticulous organization and the effect is uplifting.
We have just returned back home to the U.K. after spending 8 memorable days on the Cape in Ted and Shelly's wonderful home.
Since retiring 10 years ago, we have been coming to New England each Autumn . This year was our fourth visit to the Cape, so we do know it quite well. In previous years we have tried various Inns, Hotels and other rented properties and although all have been ok none have come anywhere close to Ted and Shellys beautiful home.
We haven't enough superlatives in our limited grammar to describe how perfect it is.
The house is spotlessly clean and is warm and comfortable. Everything here is first class including beds,linens,furniture....everything ! The Kitchen and bathrooms are pure luxury and we don't think we have ever slept more soundly away from our own home.
The house is situated in a quiet lane just a few minutes walk from the little town of Wellfleet and is therefore perfectly placed to explore the Cape from Chatham down to Provincetown .
Then factor in the truly lovely Shelly and her daughter Jill, who helped us with every request we made in the months leading up to arriving in the U.S. Shelly and Jill were kind and helpful and patient.
We have finally found our perfect holiday home on the Cape and we intend to stay here each and every year from now on.
Thankyou again dear Shelly and Jill. We had a truly memorable week in your home and we couldn't have been more happy and content.
Frank and Mary-Rose
Shelly, Ted and Jill, thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. We had such a comfortable week at your house and enjoyed being in a quiet neighborhood yet close to town and all our favorite bay and ocean beaches. We loved not having to bring linens and towels and we were so grateful for the central air as we were there during a very hot and humid week. It was also awesome having such a spacious and well equipped kitchen while on vacation. Bedrooms and bathrooms were just as described. We can't wait to come back.
Beautiful new home with central AC conveniently located close to Wellfleet village.
Perfect for 2 couples as the house has 2 master bedroom suites.
The owners are generous with amenities.
The outside living space exquisite.
I highly recommend this property

GETTING AROUND CAPE COD
The Cape is shaped like an arm. The part of the arm closest to the mainland is called the 'upper cape' and the end farthest from the mainland is referred to as the 'lower cape' or 'outer cape'. This is admittedly a little counter-intuitive since much of the 'lower cape' is actually north of the 'upper cape'. Remember Cape Cod has been shaped by the ocean on all sides and it’s really just a large sand bar!
'Upper' Cape towns include Bourne, Falmouth, Mashpee, and Sandwich. 'Mid' Cape towns include Barnstable, Brewster, Dennis, Harwich, and Yarmouth. 'Lower' Cape towns include Chatham, Eastham, Orleans, Provincetown, Truro, and Wellfleet.
Also in the area are the Islands of Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and the Elizabeth Islands including Cuttyhunk.
