Charming Cabin ~ 40 Acres on Scenic Middle Fork of Feather River

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom Historic Cabin Located On 40 Acres Along The Feather River

This classic mountain cabin, which we have named "Little Feather," is located at the edge of the northern Sierra Nevada's Mohawk Valley. Little Feather is one of a cluster of six cabins that were part of the Penman Peak Lumber Mill established in the mid-1920's. This sweet cabin is located on our 40 acres, with nearly a mile of the Feather River winding through it. Located along scenic Highway 70, the property is surrounded by U.S. Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the property. This is a great place to unplug, unwind and relax. The cabin and property are approximately 3 miles outside of Graeagle, 60 miles from Reno, and 50 miles north of Truckee. The cabin and property are available for vacation getaways, family reunions, and is also a unique retreat and workshop location.*

This beautiful property has trails for hiking and snowshoeing, with wonderful views of the river and mountain peaks. Nature study, swimming and fishing are favorite activities. A riverside trail is currently being created, with Adirondack chairs and hammocks placed along the way for riverside relaxing (season permitting). One of our viewing sites has a fire pit for your use.

The river can be accessed by an intermediate trail from the cabin, or by dirt road for those less ambulatory.

This cabin is a taste of a bygone era! The cabin has warm knotty pine paneling, a queen-size bed, and the bathroom has an antique claw foot bathtub and shower. There is a futon couch in the living room that can be converted into a double bed if needed. The cabin is ideal for 2 guests, but we will consider up to 4 after checking with us, additional fees will apply. It has a fully equipped kitchen, complete with refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, blender and full-size electric range. We provide linens, towels, and basic kitchen supplies (paper towel, foil, plastic wrap, coffee filters, etc.)

The cabin is heated by wood stove, propane wall heater, and electric space heaters. We provide some firewood and kindling for your use during the colder months. More can be purchased at the local Ace Hardware in Blairsden.

*Retreat/Workshops: We have a 30' yurt, two 16' yurts and a ceremonial circle available for workshops and retreats. Folding chairs and tables for 50+ guests are available. There are two additional cabins available adjacent to Little Feather, Cabin No. 5 - "Mt. Elwell," which can sleep up to 8 guests, and Cabin No. 4 - "Mt. Washington," which can sleep up to 6, and Cabin No. 3 - "Eureka Peak," which can sleep up to 7 guests. See VRBO Listings #841214, #871103 and #1359445 or contact us for more information.

About Janet Silver

The Silver Family lived in the Tahoe Truckee area for 26 years. In 2012 we acquired 40 acres in Plumas County, located near Graeagle, California on the National Wild and Scenic Feather River. The Graeagle area was our first home as a young married couple in 1979. We moved back full time in August of 2013. It's great to be back! Rich is a retired CA state park ranger, with one of our first assignments as newlyweds being Plumas-Eureka State Park in Johnsville, which is how we discovered this beautiful area. I worked as a paralegal in the Truckee area for 23 years. We have raised our family of four sons in the outdoors, and we continue to make nature and beautiful landscapes a priority in our lives. We have reserved three of the several 1930 vintage cabins, which were once part of the Penman Peak Lumber Company, as vacation rentals and a unique space for workshops, gatherings, etc. It is a beautiful spot, and we look forward to sharing it with you!

Janet Silver purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Janet Silver chose Plumas Eureka

We love this property! Sitting by the Feather River is truly magical. There is an abundance of wildlife in residence, and views of Mt. Elwell, Mt. Washington, and Eureka Peak can be seen from a few vantage points on the property. The cabins we have reserved for our guests have a nostalgic, old-time ambiance. Kick back and relax.

Peaceful cabin close to the Feather River!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 nights in July and found the cabin to be very clean and well appointed. The bed was comfortable, and we enjoyed the vintage details of the cabin - like the knotty pine walls, older fixtures and claw foot tub. The river is a short walk away, and a perfect temperature for swimming. We spent a relaxing day reading on our own private small beach, and cooling off in the river. Janet came by to make sure that we had everything we needed, but otherwise, we hardly saw anyone else while we were there. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our getaway at The Little Feather Cabin... The setting is beautiful and peaceful within walking distance to the Feather River! We so enjoyed exploring Graeagle and the surrounding area. Janet and Rich were so welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed chatting with them and they were very helpful and available. The cabin is cozy, charming and well-stocked. We had everything we needed to make our stay complete! Thank you so much!!! We’ll definitely be back!

Glorious anniversary escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the one-bedroom Little Feather cabin, and it was perfect to celebrate our 32nd anniversary. Although the highway and the train tracks could be seen, they were never really heard, surprisingly. It's such a serene, beautiful place, and the owners have gone out of their way to add little touches like hammocks and chairs along the pathway following the river. Perfect home base for jeeping the many trails in the area. Janet is fantastic. It's almost like she was waiting by her phone in case we needed her! We didn't because everything was fantastic, but it was nice to know she would respond in a timely manner if we did. I'm coming back with friends and family!
