Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 8

Heading to Mt. Hood for some winter adventure? Stay in this lovely home and you won't have far to go to enjoy the snow - it's just one minute from Summit Ski Area, 10 minutes from Timberline Lodge, and 15 minutes from Mt. Hood Meadows.

With a fabulous location, you can spend less time driving around and more time on the slopes! This area also has amazing summertime activities, such as boating on Timothy Lake 20 miles south, hiking and biking in the surrounding wilderness, and fishing in the Sandy River. This home, right in the middle of Government Camp, is an ideal place to experience everything the area has to offer.

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom home has a unique shape with an efficient floorplan and just enough space for eight guests (including four adults) to sleep. Both the upper and lower floors have sitting areas - downstairs, you'll find a nice gas fireplace, and upstairs is a more modern area with a large cable TV, a selection of DVDs, a Wii gaming system, and more.

The full kitchen may not have a lot of extra room, but it does have everything you may need to cook for your guests. And with so many excellent eateries nearby, including the incredible Mt. Hood Brewing Company, you may want to eat out instead!

The home has one queen bed downstairs, a double bed upstairs, and five futons that can fold out into comfortable places to sleep. A laundry area in the upstairs bathroom even provides a place to wash your clothes during extended trips. Everyone will be cozy here, and you will have great opportunities to share stories and laugh together.

This house is perfect for a home base during a ski trip. Government Camp has restaurants and a grocery store, and the much-larger Sandy is just a 30 minute drive away.

With its prime location near the slopes and its ability to accommodate large groups, this fabulous vacation home is an excellent way to live in style and comfort during your getaway!

About Vacasa, OR - Mt Hood / Hood River Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

The price was great

 • 3 of 5

It was a nice house and centrally located in town. We loved that. The house needs small things done that could make it very nice. These do sound small but when you add them up the first night, it tends to leave a negative feeling. The futons upstairs looked unsanitary, wash the futon cover could be all it needs. Carpets could use a good shampoo, I wouldn't want my kids playing and laying on the one upstairs. There were small pieces of garbage under the futon which made me think it was not cleaned properly. (if that was left, what else was not cleaned very well.) If you advertise a Wii system make sure their are batteries. Lastly the flashlight that was in the kitchen did not work. That is a necessity.

I think spending $ 50.00 and an hour or two could make this a 4-5 star vacation house.

The beds were very comfy and the kitchen was well stocked. Over all we had a great time.

I don't mean to be negative but I just wanted you to have real feedback that could be helpful

Great place to stay if you are visiting Mount Hood

 • 5 of 5

Vacasa did a good job maintaining this home. Everything about it was just right. It was clean and comfortable. Although the living area downstairs was small for a large group, there was a very pleasant sitting area outside on the deck and a spacious family area upstairs. My family had a great time and spent a couple of comfortable nights in this home.

Perfect chalet retreat for our family

 • 5 of 5

Great chalet retreat. Even though it is a small space downstairs, everything was thoughtfully organized and simple. The loft area was perfect for the kids. Thanks, would definitely stay again!

Great getaway

 • 4 of 5

Government Camp was my base camp when my son was at ski camp this summer. The unit was incredibly clean, well kept and perfect for my needs. The manager was very attentive and I was very impressed with the whole operation! Would stay again.

Good value

 • 3 of 5

The place was very affordable and met our needs. Only down side is the kitchen is too small to turn around in.

Great family-friendly house (see note regarding snow and very young children/baby gear challenges)

 • 4 of 5

The house itself was well kept and as described. Plenty of movies, games (wii and board games) and fantastic, large, lounging space (ideal for large parties of friends/families!) Location is wonderful - right at the main entrance to town, close to gas station, but still private/remotely snug in the woods! Several "pros" and we had a good stay overall! Our only noteworthy "con" is that foot access to the house can be a significant issue. Customers should be aware of snow condition before renting, especially if there are young children involved (strollers/baby-seats to lug up/down!!) or if anyone in the party has any slight difficulty walking/handling uneven surfaces. Although we were comfortable during our stay, entrance to house (walk from from driveway) was not shoveled (upon arrival we found hard, compacted ice and snow over barely visible footpath and steps to the house.) We managed our way in, but had difficulty reaching administrator (Vacasa) the following day (a business day) in order to request assistance. Once we were able to contact someone at the office, Vacasa was indeed helpful in sending a local worker (who carved steps out of the compacted ice) in order to minimize the issue. (Note we expected snow - we are used to it - this was not an "average amount from recent snow fall", this was old, compacted snow from the season.) Lastly, we have mentioned in our feedback to Vacasa that they should provide trash and recycling dumpsters since we did not really have a proper location to dispose trash during our stay (a minor issue.) In summary, great house for large families/groups with older children/teens!! (note: no dishwasher!!)
