My wife and I went up for the Yeti 100 race and stayed here. It is a wonderful place to stay. Perfect location and right on the Creeper Trail. The River Cafe next door is very good food. Looking forward to going back!

Great place right on the trail!!

  • 5 of 5

The Alvarado Station Cottage was just what we needed!! The location is perfect if your main plans are to ride the trail and it's also not far from either Abingdon or Damascus if you have plans in town. I will say that the drive is curvy, but that's exactly what you should expect if you're hoping to get out of town and into the outdoors. This place felt out and away but not so far that you couldn't be back in town in a jiffy. The fall colors were starting to pop and it was gorgeous!! The accommodations were rustic chic with lots of fun touches-we loved the photography!! Everything worked well which is just nice after riding all day. Our neighbors, The River Cafe, were so kind and inviting and their food was delicious!! The atmosphere was lively during the day and peaceful after dark. Being close to the river was also just beautiful and relaxing. Our hosts made it abundantly clear for us to contact them if we needed anything which was very reassuring, however, there was no need-all was provided as promised! We highly, highly recommend The Alvarado Station Cottage!! Book today!! We'd love to stay there again!!

Great, quiet location on the river. Gracious host. Cozy and clean apartment. Equal distance to Abingdon and Damascus. Highly recommend dinner at Harvest Table. Bike ride on creeper trail starting at white top station was beautiful and amazing.

Historic Gem on the Creeper Trail

  • 5 of 5

Historians and bicyclists will love this best kept secret! Upon entering the stairway, my first thoughts were of how much it reminded me of my grandparents' home in a small farming community. Such a simple, clean, well-stocked apartment with a very comfortable queen bed is a joy indeed, complete with the sights and sounds of a by-gone era. Sit on the upper deck and listen to water rushing across the rocks; watch the river flow swiftly by; or walk across the street and sit directly beside the river in a swing while gentle breezes blow a meditatively low-toned wind chime reminiscent of Tibet. To top it off, the owners take customer service seriously. I highly recommend it for anyone that can negotiate stairs well.
