Bella Mare is Italian for "Beautiful Sea" and that moniker is certainly fitting for this lovely two-story Elk vacation home. Here, you'll enjoy a 4000 square foot majestic interior living space and a half acre backyard that extends to the edge of the bluff above the ocean. The owners of this luxury Mendocino vacation rental have upgraded the interior to offer quality modern conveniences, yet kept some of the architectural charm of its era.
From this Mendocino area vacation rental, you can park your car and walk next door to Bridget Dolan's Pub (you may even see a visiting "star") for local brew and eats, or select one of the other fine restaurants in Elk. Across from Queenie's Roadhouse (known for yummy breakfasts), there is a trail head for walks right down to the beach. Interested in history? You can read up on Bella Mare (built in 1891) at the Elk Museum. There are a lot of things to do without a car here or if you choose to explore further along the coast, you'll be able to return home to the charm of a gracious California vacation home and spectacular sunsets.
When you enter this Elk retreat, you are greeted by a large living room, which has a 40-inch TV and comfortable recliner seating. A few steps to your left is the ocean view fireplace room with more comfortable sofas and a cozy window seat. The open kitchen and dining area also has ocean view seating for friends to chat while you create a gourmet meal on the commercial grade Wolf Range. And for added convenience, a half bath is between the kitchen and garage. This home also offers complimentary WiFi access.
There are five bedrooms altogether, including the very generous dorm-style game room on the second floor that comfortably houses four twin beds and a twin trundle bed (for a total of six twin beds). The dorm room also houses a pool table, a flat screen TV, and additional entertainment amenities. The two additional bedrooms upstairs are separated by a newly remodeled bathroom—each room has an ocean view. There are also two bedrooms downstairs, an ocean view queen master bedroom suite and another queen bedroom with direct access to a newly remodeled full bath. Altogether, there's room for as many as 12 guests, with a maximum of eight adults.
A large deck with a hot tub, and lots of seating complete the picture of this perfect Elk vacation getaway—ideal for a family vacation or couples traveling together with kids. Bella Mare will delight your whole group and provides amenities everyone will enjoy—whether it's playing pool upstairs or soaking in the hot tub after a long day walking along the beach. What more can you ask for from a beautiful Mendocino vacation rental?
Plan a stay at this Northern California vacation rental and enjoy ocean breezes, the sounds of the waves crashing below, and the comfortable, classic style of this Elk, California Bella Mare vacation home.
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
The home was lovely with great views through huge windows and plenty of living space. Lots of winding roads to get there, but it was totally worth the drive through forests. We also loved the how the landscaping encouraged plenty of birds (hawks, Anna's hummingbirds, quail, etc.). Nice to have decent internet bandwidth to upload my pictures. An overall excellent place for a family to stay.
Had a great retreat with great friends. Lots of room to spread out and plenty of furniture to be together in one room. Love the history of the house, It was previously owned by the Cooney family, a relative of the Donahue family who ran the mill.
We had the best time staying at this place! First, the views were incredible and we loved relaxing in the hot-tub while watching the water. Second, the home itself was perfect for our group. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out, an amazing kitchen where we gathered for meals cooked on the AMAZING stovetop, and comfy bedrooms. The upstairs "game room" was also a great place to hang out and relax. Highly recommend the space and the town of Elk!
We recently went on a weekend getaway with friends, all 12 slept comfortably. The property is older but overall in satisfactory condition. The views from the deck and house are incredible. 3 of the 5 bedrooms share these views. Reservations and house information was readily available. All appliances and the hot tub worked great! Overall a great long weekend!
Wonderful getaway with a big group of friends. Nice older house and beautiful property.
