Located in the resort mountains of western Pennsylvania, only 54 miles east of downtown Pittsburgh, HARRIS HOUSE at the Randall Reserve is a perfect place to be whenever you want to enter the natural world of forest and stream, but at the same time want to reside in a beautiful and comfortable home close to resort attractions such as Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, and Idlewild Park.
The Randall Reserve is dedicated to the preservation of woodlands and wildlife in the valley between Ligonier and Donegal, to the end that current and future generations may continue to experience the natural legacy of this lovely part of the Laurel Highlands. Any wildlife that can survive in this part of the country appears from time to time on our 400+ acres, leaving tracks and signs of their presence. Many varieties of wild flowers, shrubs and trees are to be found here. A network of trails connects all of this together, taking you back to Harris House where you can relax in comfort.
NEW TO THE PROPERTY AS OF 2016/2017, CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING ON THE PROPERTY! The main lodge now has been updated with central air conditioning, and the annex is cooled by its own smaller unit to maintain comfortable temperatures in the summer heat.
On site the Reserve has fishing and small boating, more than a mile of Four Mile Run (the major creek and trout stream in this area) to explore and enjoy, and miles of trails for hiking and cross country skiing, a game court for family enjoyment, volleyball and badminton, picnics and bonfires. Hay rides (using bales as seats) if trail conditions permit. Furthermore, the Reserve is adjacent to beautiful Donegal Lake, a Pennsylvania public area which offers fishing, kayaking, canoeing and small boating (on a bring-your-own basis).
On Saturdays we schedule one or two enjoyable programs related to our preservation mission, such as: 'Critters of the Creek,' 'A Guided Walk in the Woods,' 'Mountain Man's Upbringing on Chestnut Ridge,' 'What's a Pond Turnover?' etc. Such programs also may be given at other times if requested. Sometimes you may want to join us in work projects underway, such as trail maintenance or firewood gathering, after which we could picnic alongside the creek.
At times you may want to visit some of the famous places in the Laurel Highlands around us: Idlewilde Park (voted the #1 amusement park for children in the United States) which has Soak Zone and Story Book Forest and many amusements. Seven Springs has skiing, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and many resort activities. Ohiopyle has white-water rafting. Frank Lloyd Wright's 'Fallingwater' is world renowned for its architecture. Flight 93 Memorial will touch your heart. Ligonier, a beautiful little resort town, has Fort Ligonier with its amazing historical reproductions of life in Revolutionary War times.
Bring along a book or two and perhaps a tad of wine, and it is hard to imagine a more restful and satisfying vacation.
Harris House first floor features an open floor plan that includes the living room, dining room and kitchen. There's a wood-burning fireplace as well as floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto a large deck overlooking the pond -- thereby allowing you to combine indoor and outdoor living and dining at the same time. (Great for get-togethers!). In addition, our back entrance room contains washer and dryer for your use and a half-bath.
The master bedroom suite has its own wing, a king bed, 1 and 1/2 baths, a private tea-for-two deck, and a small room with WiFi and a single bed.
The 2nd floor has a den with TV and a sofa that turns into a king bed, three bedrooms (king, Queen, two singles), reading/sleeping nook, and two full bathrooms.
The attached annex over the garage is a multi-purpose room with a queen bed and a single bed, a full bath and a narrow deck that overlooks the pond. This annex will be available for use during all times of year and includes its own heating and air conditioning.
Our yard has a large bonfire pit and a small one, a picnic area, a set-up for soccer and badminton, a games court containing shuffleboard, horse shoes, and basketball hoops. There's a dock and rowboat for the pond. The Four Mile Run (a creek), the predominant trout fishing stream in southern Ligonier Valley, delineates the lower yard and supplies shallow water fun for small children plus exploration and fishing for older children and adults.

About Benjamin Harris
Benjamin Logan Harris, manages the property, runs the website and contacts the guests. Tom D., a friendly nice guy, is greeter and local manager. Katie S., an intelligent beauty, does the bookkeeping. All have homes adjacent to the Reserve and are available to help you at all times. Tom lives in a guest house across the pond and is filled with visions for the development of Harris House property. Belle resides in a retirement community but also spends time in her cabin near the Reserve. Katie, with husband and son age 12, live in their shiny new home beside the Reserve. Ralph G., our esteemed Property Manager, who looks like Yosemite Sam, has worked on Reserve properties for 48 years, knows everything about everything around here, and kids of all ages love him. These four make up the team that runs Harris House, but we also have helpers as needed. Although we expect to keep improving Harris House every year, we believe that, right now, you can have a good time in our forest wonderland.
Benjamin Harris purchased this House in 2012
Why Benjamin Harris chose Donegal Township
About 55 years ago Belle and her husband set foot on a property that had a sparkling pond, a cottage, a hundred acres or so of Pennsylvania hardwood forest, and flowering weeds almost 5 to 6 feet high. They looked at each other and bought the place on the spot. It is now Harris House, a love at first sight that never ends. They built the house to last, using steel framework and a steel roof. (Look at that roof today, recently painted and good as new!). Over the years nearby lands were added, much of which eventually became the Randall Reserve.

Perfect step out and beautiful location for large group!
Our group consisted of 9 high school girlfriends, who were reuniting after over 30 years. There were so many places to sleep that we easily spread out. The views from the back bedrooms that faced the pond were especially nice places to sleep. Tom, the greeter, was very helpful and informative regarding the property and the grounds. He showed us 2 good hiking trails and they were beautiful. The kitchen was amazing with lots of room for multiple cooks and plenty of seating around the island for us to gather and catch up. The living area was large and we enjoyed the fireplace and the stunning views across the pond. There was nothing that we needed that wasn't provided. We are already looking at dates to book again for next year!
Randall Reserve provided the ultimate weekend!
We are a small group of college friends (mostly couples) from IUP that have stayed for a weekend together in February for the past 36 years. Harrison House truly provided the ultimate experience for our group and had so much to offer. From the wonderful and spacious first floor layout to the wall of windows overlooking the lake, we spent hours in tranquil conversations while we watched the wildlife on the lake and the flames of the fireplace. Tom, the caretaker, made our arrival so pleasant as he welcomed us with open arms and the history of the property. The home has so much to offer from the ample bedrooms, baths, and amenities. I just can't say enough about the house and surrounding properties. If you want a quiet, enjoyable place to stay with family and friends, then Randall Reserve and Harrison House is the place for you. Thank you to Tom and Benjamin for opening the property for us to enjoy. Sincerely, Bob
Perfect winter weekend getaway.
Our group of 10 had a great time this past weekend. We get together every winter and this was the first time we stayed here. Loved the way the wall of windows let the outside in with views of the frozen pond and hillside. Great wood burning fireplace. Plenty of room in the kitchen with two stoves and two sinks. The owner was super responsive when we had a slight problem with one of the thermostats and had it fixed in an hour. We plan on coming back next winter!
Perfect house for our gathering
The house is very spacious and well-stocked, and best of all the scenery and property are incredible. We couldn't have chosen a better location for our family get together, and we will definitely be returning. All of our questions were answered promptly, and Tom greeted us upon arrival and even took us on a ride around the property since the weather was a little cold for walking. I highly recommend this property especially to families with children and we can't wait to go back!
Kindness and Relaxation
The caretaker Tom came over to meet use as soon as we were settled. When all the children arrived he returned sharing delightful exploration and educational opportunities for everyone and scheduled these adventures. I can only say that Randall Reserve is an oasis that assures total relaxation, allows for quiet meditation and appreciation of nature, and the well kept, safe grounds invite exploration. There is a reason their bookings are constant. We plan to rebook the same time for the next 3 years.
We rented this home for a weekend. We had our daughters rehearsal dinner here friday evening. Saturday we were able to get absolutely beautiful pictures before her wedding. The grounds are breathtaking to look out on the lake having morning coffee is truly wonderful. The home is very comfortable and is awesome for entertaining. I would highly recommend this property. The owners and Tom are so wonderful making sure our stay was perfect!!! Thank you!!
