About Kim Gissendanner
Hello, we are the Gissendanner family, living in Goose Creek, SC. Spending a lot of time in coastal areas , we were attracted to the change in scenery in the mountains of Western, NC. In the summer of 2008 I stood outside under the balcony at the Lake Lure Inn, sipping my coffee and admiring the beauty of Lake Lure. Later that afternoon while walking along the Lake with our two small children we began to talk about the adventure of building a log cabin in this peaceful place. The next weekend we returned to Lake Lure and began the process of looking at property.
Kim Gissendanner purchased this House in 2008
Why Kim Gissendanner chose Lake Lure
We came across this community that our home is built in quite by accident and after driving around not knowing where we were headed we drove by the property that soon purchased. We met a couple who were building the cabin next door. We immediately realized that there was a business connection from a few years before. Since then there has been an almost family like bond and s divine intervention would have it this became the place for us to build. For us it's perfect. Just far away from home to get away yet not so far as to make it a long drive. The distance we travel to the cabin let's us decompress and unwind so that we are on 'mountain time' when we arrive. We love this place in all seasons. The fall colors are spectacular and summers here are cooler and comfortable. On more than one occasion we've experienced a white Christmas.
What makes this House unique
Our cabin is located just 10 minutes from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Outdoor activities are everywhere and there is plenty of events going on year round. When you want a more peaceful visit you are far enough up the mountain and away from the main road where you can simply enjoy doing nothing. Today I enjoy stepping out on my back deck and admiring the beauty of the surroundings. You can feel the peace in the air. At night we s go out onto the back deck with lights off. Lifting our heads up we experience what we refer to as 'the big picture' (more stars than you can ever imagine.)

Amazingly Private Quiet Retreat
This was one of the most relaxing cabins ever. Had a great Great Room for everyone to hang out in, amazing deck and enough room for all 8 of us to sleep comfortably. Also had a great basement and hot tub to hang out in. Wonderful place to just enjoy the woods and relax away from it all.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay.! We've put a lot of effort into making Laurelwood a comfortable, safe, and peaceful place for families to gather and, unwind and recharge. We enjoyed having your family stay. We hope to see you again soon! Thanks again!
Comfy, spacious lodge in beautiful secluded area.
This was a wonderful lodge for a getaway for 6 women. Plenty of room to spread out while having comfortable, large gathering space. Back deck was amazing for morning coffee! The internet was surprisingly good considering the mountains and only slow a couple of times. It was nice to have TV for a couple of football games although mostly you won’t be home watching - you’ll be out exploring! The property was well stocked with many amenities. Kim, the owner, was very responsive and helpful including talking us into the property by phone as we arrived late. We recommend arriving in daylight if possible the first time as roads are very winding. The nearby town of Chimney Rock is charming. It was very quiet when we were there, but activity increased on weekend for sure. We spent 2 days in Asheville and while it is about an hour away, it is not a bad drive if you take highway to Hendersonville then cut over. Laurelwood is everything you good you want in a mountain cabin.
we really enjoyed our stay at laurelwood. the house was great. everyone was friendly. the location was good.we really enjoyed our stay and hope that we will be back again. thanks and god bless.
We are glad that you had a pleasant stay. We hope that you will have your family back again soon. You are always welcome at Laurelwood. Thanks for being such great guests.
Breathtaking views from a fabulous mountain home
We planned to use this home as our 'base of operations' for an event being held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center, a short 25-minute drive form the house. The house was a welcome relief with its' warm ambiance and perfect amenities - great kitchen, comfortable living areas, super deck for putting your feet up - you couldn't ask for more. Everything was clean, well-stocked, in working order and ready for us when we came in for a long weekend. Working with the owner was a pleasure - thanks, Kim, for your hospitality. We all agreed that a much longer stay for more exploring was in order! Plenty of room for everyone - definitely on our list for a return visit.
Thank you so much for the kind words. It was a pleasure having your group as guests. We'd love to have you back again next year. We are so glad that you found Laurelwood to be a warm comfortable place to relax after a long day. Thanks again for choosing Laurelwood Lodge.
Excellent home for a relaxing and fun stay.
Home was well equipped with everything we could need.
Our stay at Laurelwood Lodge was even better than expected. The space is large and comfortable. Our family unit of nine, had ample room for cooking, dinning, or, just spending time together. The spacious deck is great for relaxing.
Our time at Laurelwood Lodge was a real pleasure and hope to do it again.
