About Kim Gissendanner
Hello, we are the Gissendanner family, living in Goose Creek, SC. Spending a lot of time in coastal areas , we were attracted to the change in scenery in the mountains of Western, NC. In the summer of 2008 I stood outside under the balcony at the Lake Lure Inn, sipping my coffee and admiring the beauty of Lake Lure. Later that afternoon while walking along the Lake with our two small children we began to talk about the adventure of building a log cabin in this peaceful place. The next weekend we returned to Lake Lure and began the process of looking at property.
Kim Gissendanner purchased this House in 2008
Why Kim Gissendanner chose Lake Lure
We came across this community that our home is built in quite by accident and after driving around not knowing where we were headed we drove by the property that soon purchased. We met a couple who were building the cabin next door. We immediately realized that there was a business connection from a few years before. Since then there has been an almost family like bond and s divine intervention would have it this became the place for us to build. For us it's perfect. Just far away from home to get away yet not so far as to make it a long drive. The distance we travel to the cabin let's us decompress and unwind so that we are on 'mountain time' when we arrive. We love this place in all seasons. The fall colors are spectacular and summers here are cooler and comfortable. On more than one occasion we've experienced a white Christmas.
What makes this House unique
Our cabin is located just 10 minutes from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Outdoor activities are everywhere and there is plenty of events going on year round. When you want a more peaceful visit you are far enough up the mountain and away from the main road where you can simply enjoy doing nothing. Today I enjoy stepping out on my back deck and admiring the beauty of the surroundings. You can feel the peace in the air. At night we s go out onto the back deck with lights off. Lifting our heads up we experience what we refer to as 'the big picture' (more stars than you can ever imagine.)

Beautiful, peaceful and large cabin
Our family has been to Lake Lure, NC a few times for family gathering. This cabin is all you want. Very spacious, many amenities and well kept. The owner was always there to answer any questions we had and to ensure we had a good stay. It has a large porch where you can just sit and look at the creek, gaze at the stars at night or look for deers. Very close to town and to supermarket. It also has plenty of towels (rare in most cases) and kitchen well stocked. I would highly recommend this cabin. Kim, thank you for staying in touch with us even when you were away in a cruise. Oh forgot to mention, the owner even had a Christmas tree for us with lights and decorations, making our Christmas complete! We would definitely come back to this lovely cabin!!!
Thank you so much for your kind review. We enjoyed having you as guest at Laurelwood Lodge and we'd love to see you and your family back again sometime soon. We built Laurelwood as a family gathering place so it's so nice to hear about families getting together and enjoying the holidays there!
Friendly owner, great family space
Kim was very friendly and responsive. Cabin was perfect for 2 families to stay. Kids and adults both loved the game room. We would love to stay again!
Very Relaxing Location with Fun Nearby
Our family had a great time at the cabin. It's close to Chimney Rock, so there are great hikes nearby. And just around the south side of the lake is the beach area and a great little coffee shop. The cabin is quiet, and homey, and it was as advertised. The owners are very responsive and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.
Fun birthday weekend
This was a stunning log home. This was our first time going to lake lure and had a blast. Kim always messaged me to make sure everything was going as planned. This house is very close to resturaunts and the National Park. The game room and hot tub was very fun when you wanted to relax or have fun. I hope to go again sometime!
Very nice house in a peaceful, beautiful setting. The owner was easy to reach and helped make our stay very enjoyable. I highly recommend this house. It is large enough to accommodate a good sized group. We saw deer each day, which was very cool.
Beautiful location, beautiful scenery.
The deck and hot tub make it! Beautiful Mountain views and close to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, which we loved! At night the stars are amazing.
