About the property

Vintage Revival-- All the Charm of a 19th Century Vintage Mercantile Store

Once home to the town's ice cream soda shop, this mercantile building's interior has been redesigned to accommodate our guests but retains much of the original architectural details throughout. Known as the Mrs. Annie Martz Building ( built ca. 1874 ), the space has retained its unique character and charm with the original storefront and display windows still intact.

Close to attractions and activities, this spacious three bedroom townhouse is full of old-world charm on the upper two floors of a historic building. Details abound such as the original storefront, polished wood pillars, hardwood floors.

You may feel like you stepped back in time amongst the original features of this home: cast iron radiators and the original 19th Century wooden staircase. You'll also find a modern kitchen with ceramic sink, stainless steel appliances, and a spacious living room.

For your entertainment needs, we've also provided you with a vintage AM/FM radio and a collection of board games in the living room.

We supply high quality bed linens and bath towels and basic toiletries. The half bath is on the 2nd floor: the full bathroom is on the 3rd floor.

Guests have exclusive access to the two floors of the Townhouse--where the shopkeepers lived. You may also access the quiet, secluded courtyard and use of the BBQ grill. The entrance is at the back of the building and on-site parking that makes unpacking easy. The first floor is a laundry room that leads to a door to the upper two levels of the Townhouse. Keyless entry will allow you to access the inside of the building: then a key is provided to the apartment.

Once reaching the guesthouse, please go to the back of the building to park and unload in our private parking lot. Be sure to look for the long parking lot--not the parking lot of the neighboring Salon and Spa.

About Dee Ford

I met my husband Mark, in Jim Thorpe, when he and his family owned and operated The Hotel Switzerland. We have been in the hospitality business for decades and are very knowledgeable about the area.

I am also a certified master gardener, with many hours of volunteer work in the community. I personally love the town for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and fresh, clean air. Spending time in nature with walks in the woods gives me more energy, and a sense of relaxation.

My career in retail led us to this one of a kind charming building, with a lovely storefront with double display windows.

Unique in style, we have spent the last 10 years improving the building while still maintaining the historical aspects of the time period of the late 19th Century.

What makes this townhome unique

This spacious old mercantile building is eco - friendly with the preservation of the property's historic character ( 145 year old). The overall look and feel of the guesthouse decor blends vintage furniture and modern furnishings that fit together to create a space that is wholly unique.

For each Holiday season, I love to trim the display windows with lights and seasonal decor.

The parking lot is a plus for secure parking in the town of Jim Thorpe.

Warm and cozy

This place was just what we hoped for. Dee is a terrific host and personally helped us settle in and was most helpful with area information. She provides everything you might need except for food (of course). Really clean and well equipped. Was perfect for our party of 7 (four adults, two teenagers and one 10 year old). If we vacation in that area in the future we would definable look to stay there again.

Tidy, well stocked townhouse

We went to Jim Thorpe to bike and enjoy the fall foliage with another couple. Glen Onoko Guesthouse was thoughtfully and well furnished. The owners have thought of every detail for a comfortable stay. Dee and Mark, the owners were there to meet us and gave us a very helpful and thorough introduction to the house and area. When I booked GO I didn't realize how the town is laid out on two sides of the Lehigh River and the Guesthouse is not convenient to the historic area of Jim Thorpe where most of the restaurants and shops are.

Great place to enjoy a beautiful fall weekend!

We came to celebrate and enjoyed and clean and comfortable home, decorated so cute. The owners were so helpful and we had a wonderful weekend. Enjoying hikes, walks through the quaint little town, and the picturesque views.

Lovely house, well managed by owners

Spent 3 nights over labor weekend in Jim Thorpe and stayed at the guest house. The property has great facilities, lovely spacious rooms, and is clean and well maintained. Dee and Mark are incredibly helpful, and turned up to run us through the house and the local amenities in good detail, really helpful for first time visitors to the area. The house is well stocked, and Dee and Mark very kindly provided essentials like coffee, OJ, and pancake mix! House was well located for our white water rafting center, and close to Glen Onoko State park, Penn's Peak, and many other local places of interest.

The house was amazing and a perfect place for our family to stay!

It was a great experience. The owners met us at the house when we arrived and showed us around. Very welcoming. Pancake mix and syrup, cereal, and water were stocked for our use. It was the perfect location, as we were close to all of the places we visited and things we did. Plenty of room for watching movies on a rainy evening, too. We would definitely choose to stay here again should we travel that direction again.

Our Townhouse in scenic Jim Thorpe is a year - round vacation rental. Exciting nearby attractions include the Lehigh Gorge State Park, D & L Bike Trail, Penn's Peak, scenic train rides, historic Jim Thorpe, Mauch Chunk Lake Park, Hickory Run State Park Hawk Falls, Beltsville Lake and State Park, whitewater rafting providers, paintball fields, ski resorts, concert venues, wine tasting, restaurants, small businesses.

If you love the outdoors then this is your spot! You can be at the Gorge in just a few minutes to enjoy hiking, biking, hanging out along the Falls, fishing and relaxing in nature. You will enjoy the proximity to the gorge and the quick drive to town with the wonderful amenities of the historic district as well as the conveniences close by such as the grocery store, wine and spirits, restaurants and more!

Pedal the 25 miles of the D & L Trail along the Lehigh River or hike the Glen Onoko Falls Trail. Bring your cross country skis and head out to Mauch Chunk Lake Park ( just 3 miles west of the downtown). Eclectic shops, museums, and the Mauch Chunk Opera House and Penn's Peak are are within minutes from the property.
