All the Charm of a 19th Century Townhouse --Warm, spacious and inviting--

Experience history with a stay in the Glen Onoko Guesthouse, built in the boom year of 1870 when coal was king and tourism so impressive, Mauch Chunk (our town name before we became Jim Thorpe) was second only to Niagara Falls!

Original polished wood pillars, wood staircase, and Old- World style woodwork remain from the time period when craftsmanship was an important trade, when Asa Packer was one of the wealthiest men in America, and Mauch Chunk a haven for the region's rich and powerful!

Our Guesthouse is unique in style and includes the original storefront. The former Mrs. Annie Martz building ca. 1872 -- was the first ice cream soda shop in the town of Jim Thorpe. Original steam radiators gives warm cast iron heat throughout the home. Modern upgrades include a kitchen with ceramic sink, stainless appliances--perfect for a gathering of friends and family. All rooms have an overhead ceiling fan.

The home is in a residential/commercial part of town and is very close to activities and attractions.

Sleeping arrangements include three separate bedrooms, two with Queen beds. A third bedroom with a King size bed gives our guests plenty of sleeping area. The upstairs offers a full bath and a large wardrobe room that stores extra bed linens and plush towels ( in an armoire). The half bath (powder room) is located on the first floor and the full bath ( cast iron tub) is on the second floor.

The Townhouse comes with on -site parking, a quiet, secluded courtyard, patio tables and umbrellas, large deck and BBQ grill. The entryway door features a keyless entry system. A key is provided to your door. Everything is provided for your stay- sheets-pillows plus basic toiletries.

About Dee Ford

I met my husband Mark, in Jim Thorpe, when he and his family owned and operated The Hotel Switzerland. We have been in the hospitality business for decades and are very knowledgeable about the area.

I am also a certified master gardener, with many hours of volunteer work in the community. I personally love the town for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and fresh, clean air. Spending time in nature with walks in the woods gives me more energy, and a sense of relaxation.

My career in retail led us to this one of a kind charming building, with a lovely storefront with double display windows. Very unique in style, we have spent the last 10 years improving the building while still maintaining the historical aspects of the time period of Ca. 1870.

You will enjoy the close proximity to the Glen Onoko -- you can be at the gorge in just a few minutes to enjoy hiking, biking, cross country skiing, or fishing. Pedal the 25 miles of the D & L Trail along the Lehigh River or hike the Glen Onoko Falls Trail. Spend a day at Hickory Run State Park and the Hawk Falls Trail. Plan a whitewater rafting expedition, timed to the areas dam releases. Bring your cross country skis and head out to Mauch Chunk Lake Park ( just 3 miles west of the downtown).

From this location you can be in the downtown area in a few minutes to enjoy all the amenities the area has to offer such as museums, festivals, shops, pubs and more!

Exciting nearby attractions include the Lehigh Gorge State Park, D & L Bike Trail, Penn's Peak, scenic train rides, downtown Jim Thorpe, Mauch Chunk Lake Park, Hickory Run State Park Hawk Falls, Beltsville Lake and State Park, whitewater rafting providers, paintball fields, ski resorts, concert venues, wine tasting, restaurants, small businesses.

If you love the outdoors then this is your spot! You can be at the Gorge in just a few minutes to enjoy hiking, biking, hanging out along the Falls, fishing and relaxing in nature. You will enjoy the proximity to the gorge and the quick drive to town with the wonderful amenities of the historic district as well as the conveniences close by such as the grocery store, wine and spirits, restaurants and more!

Pedal the 25 miles of the D & L Trail along the Lehigh River or hike the Glen Onoko Falls Trail. Tidy, well stocked townhouse

We went to Jim Thorpe to bike and enjoy the fall foliage with another couple. Glen Onoko Guesthouse was thoughtfully and well furnished. The owners have thought of every detail for a comfortable stay. Dee and Mark, the owners were there to meet us and gave us a very helpful and thorough introduction to the house and area. When I booked GO I didn't realize how the town is laid out on two sides of the Lehigh River and the Guesthouse is not convenient to the historic area of Jim Thorpe where most of the restaurants and shops are.

Great place to enjoy a beautiful fall weekend!

We came to celebrate and enjoyed and clean and comfortable home, decorated so cute. The owners were so helpful and we had a wonderful weekend. Enjoying hikes, walks through the quaint little town, and the picturesque views.

Lovely house, well managed by owners

Spent 3 nights over labor weekend in Jim Thorpe and stayed at the guest house. The property has great facilities, lovely spacious rooms, and is clean and well maintained. Dee and Mark are incredibly helpful, and turned up to run us through the house and the local amenities in good detail, really helpful for first time visitors to the area. The house is well stocked, and Dee and Mark very kindly provided essentials like coffee, OJ, and pancake mix! House was well located for our white water rafting center, and close to Glen Onoko State park, Penn's Peak, and many other local places of interest.

The house was amazing and a perfect place for our family to stay!

It was a great experience. The owners met us at the house when we arrived and showed us around. Very welcoming. Pancake mix and syrup, cereal, and water were stocked for our use. It was the perfect location, as we were close to all of the places we visited and things we did. Plenty of room for watching movies on a rainy evening, too. We would definitely choose to stay here again should we travel that direction again.

Very charming and well cared for

Dee really went out of her way to be accommodating and helpful. She even had coffee and tea and milk , etc in the kitchen. Very welcoming. The house is cozy and very pleasant. Jim Thorpe is a pleasant surprise. Great base to explore the great outdoors.
