Overview

About the property

Escape from the ordinary in our circa 1872 Townhouse, close to white water rafti

Experience history with a stay in the Glen Onoko Guesthouse, built in the boom year of 1870 when coal was king and tourism so impressive, Mauch Chunk (our town name before we became Jim Thorpe) was second only to to Niagara Falls!

Original polished wood pillars, wood staircase, and old world woodwork remain from the time period when craftsmanship was an important trade, when Asa Packer was one of the wealthiest men in America, and Mauch Chunk a haven for the region's rich and powerful!

This Victorian style home has retained many unique characteristics including the original facade of a mercantile storefront that was the town's first ice cream shop.

The townhouse features spacious living areas on two floors, in which guests can cook on- site in a modern kitchen with stainless appliances, ice maker... all the conveniences you expect. We even provide coffee, creamer, spices, sugar as an extra convenience, for your stay in your 'Home Away From Home"

Modern updates include a guestroom refresh that's now complete with a new swoon worthy upholstered bed, a brand new I- series mattress, table lamps, wall art and window treatments.A new king bed has been added, with new bedding, ready to pamper our guests in style. A third, cozy bedroom is located next to the full bath.

Amenities include: off street parking, 18,000 btu a/c, a private courtyard, patio tables and umbrellas, large deck and BBQ grill. The entryway door features a keyless entry system. The cafe in the building is open only for special events.

You will find just about everything you need on the same street you are staying on - gas station, bank, wine and spirit store, pharmacy, Urgent Care, ice cream, pizza shops, deli, and the Jim Thorpe Memorial. The grocery store is a few blocks away.

About Dee Ford

My career in retail led me to this charming building, with a lovely storefront with double display windows. I met my husband Mark, in Jim Thorpe, when he and his family owned and operated The Hotel Switzerland. We have been in the hospitality business for decades and are very knowledgeable about the area.

I am also a certified master gardener, with many hours of volunteer work in the community. I personally love the town for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and fresh, clean air. Spending time in nature with walks in the woods gives me more energy, and a sense of relaxation.

Dee Ford purchased this townhome in 2005

Why Dee Ford chose Poconos

My husband Mark bought this building in 2005, and have spent the last 10 years renovating to high standards.

The commercial space has been a bakery, a floral shop, a gift shop and green grocer!

A boutique hotel, the guesthouse offers a choice of two different types of accommodations - the two floors of the townhouse, or the newly designed Glen Onoko Getaway for two!

We hope that you will appreciate our space, and plan to stay with us on your next trip to Jim Thorpe!

What makes this townhome unique

Our vacation rental is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts with its close location to the entrance of the Lehigh Gorge State Park. Pedal the 25 miles of the D & L trail along the Lehigh River, or hike the Glen Onoko Falls Trail. Plan a whitewater rafting expedition, timed to the areas dam releases. Spend a day at Hickory Run State Park Hawk Falls Trail. Our townhouse offers a perfect location for you and your family to experience the adventure, nature, dining and shopping in Jim Thorpe.

Located just over the bridge from the historic district, near the whitewater rafting center, close enough to be in the thick of things, without the downtown noise or hassle of downtown parking.

The house was amazing and a perfect place for our family to stay!

  • 5 of 5

It was a great experience. The owners met us at the house when we arrived and showed us around. Very welcoming. Pancake mix and syrup, cereal, and water were stocked for our use. It was the perfect location, as we were close to all of the places we visited and things we did. Plenty of room for watching movies on a rainy evening, too. We would definitely choose to stay here again should we travel that direction again.

Dee really went out of her way to be accommodating and helpful. She even had coffee and tea and milk , etc in the kitchen. Very welcoming. The house is cozy and very pleasant. Jim Thorpe is a pleasant surprise. Great base to explore the great outdoors.

Absolutely loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Camp On North was absolutely perfect for our family. We each could have our own bedroom (which meant, I finally was able to get some much needed sleep on a vacation for a change instead of being up all night from snoring) and I actually slept in an extremely comfortable bed instead of a bathtub! Everything was so clean and there really was no need to bring anything except ourselves. Dee and Mark Ford (the owners) were so nice! They spent time showing us around, talking with us, supplied doughnuts and items to make pancakes for breakfast, and had plenty of brochures on things to do in the area and places to eat in the area (everywhere they suggested was terrific). I am ready to go back! I would definitely recommend this property to anyone.

Clean, Comfortable Charming and Quiet Townhouse Close to Many Attractions

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Camp on North. The charming three bedroom home was perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults, an 18-yr old daughter and 15-yr old son). It was just as advertised: comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen, storage area for our bikes, access to washer/dryer. The Fords even provided pancake supplies and coffee.

Dee and Mark take great pride in their property. It is very clean and well maintained. We felt very welcome. There was a drawer full of literature for restaurants and activities. They gave us great advice on where to go and how to get to the area attractions.

I would stay here again and recommend it to friends and family.

We particularly enjoyed that it was close enough to downtown to walk but not in the thick of things. We toured the Jail, Packer Mansion and explored the shops in Jim Thorpe. We hiked Glen Onoko Falls and the switch-back trail to the top of Mt. Pisgah. We kayaked on Mauch Chunck Lake. We biked the rail trail at Lehigh Gorge from Glen Onoko to Rockport and back. We also checked out the Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary. If we had more time, we would have done more!
