About the property

Clean, Comfortable, Charming and quiet Family Townhome close to many attractions

Experience history with a stay in the Glen Onoko Guesthouse, built in the boom year of 1870 when coal was king and tourism so impressive, Mauch Chunk (our town name before we became Jim Thorpe) was second only to to Niagara Falls!

Original polished wood pillars, wood staircase, and old world woodwork remain from the time period when craftsmanship was an important trade, when Asa Packer was one of the wealthiest men in America, and Mauch Chunk a haven for the region's rich and powerful!

Welcome to the Glen Onoko Guesthouse, (formerly known as Camp On North), that sleeps 6-8, with 3 bedrooms, and one full, 1 1/2 bath. Every room has an overhead ceiling fan to keep you cool.

This Victorian style Townhouse features welcoming living areas on two floors, in which guests can cook on- site in a modern kitchen with stainless appliances, ice maker... all the conveniences you expect. We even provide coffee, creamer, spices, sugar as an extra convenience, for your stay in your 'Home Away From Home'.

Relax after your day of adventure on the large outdoor sun deck and private courtyard featuring a patio table, BBQ propane grill ready for grilling. By the way...Jim Thorpe Market is just minutes away [they're well known for fresh meats!].

This house comes with a private, off- street parking lot for 6-8 vehicles...a Jim Thorpe rarity. We even have a laundry room, and dry ample storage for outdoor gear.

The Glen Onoko Guesthouse is conveniently located in the town of Jim Thorpe and is close to Glen Onoko State Park, just 6 blocks from our doorstep!

Walk next door to the town's only full service salon and be pampered with a massage, manicure, pedicure, or new hairstyle! Walk 2 blocks to Tommy's Subs for a take out sandwich, or walk 2 blocks to the East Mauch Chunk Eatery for a full breakfast!

A 7 minute walk will take you to the towns best local bar, The Union Public House, with daily specials using ingredients from their own farm and the towns best selection of brews. Sunday brunch (11-3) features $2.50 mimosas - the best bloody mary - get there early - sometimes there's a line out the door!

About Dee Ford

My career in retail led me to this charming building, with a lovely storefront with double display windows. I met my husband Mark, in Jim Thorpe, when he and his family owned and operated The Hotel Switzerland. We have been in the hospitality business for decades and are very knowledgeable about the area.

I am also a certified master gardener, with many hours of volunteer work in the community. I personally love the town for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and fresh, clean air. Spending time in nature with walks in the woods gives me more energy, and a sense of relaxation.

Dee Ford purchased this townhome in 2005

Why Dee Ford chose Poconos

This classically inspired townhouse was built for America's newly rich industrial barons, in the late 19th century. Elements of the decor remain, but the space that left me gasping was the lobby, with the colossal polished wood pillars, and 10 ft ceilings! The building was rescued by my husband, Mark, and renovated to the highest of standards.

The commercial space has been a bakery, a floral shop, a gift shop and a green grocer dating back to 1870.

Starting from the architecture of this building, and going right through to the necessary furniture and objects, it is our goal to have our guests feel comfortable and happy with a stay at the Glen Onoko Guesthouse.

What makes this townhome unique

Our vacation rental is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts with its close location to the entrance of the Lehigh Gorge State Park, just six blocks from our doorstep. Pedal the 25 miles of the D & L trail along the Lehigh River, or hike the Glen Onoko Falls Trail. Plan a whitewater rafting expedition, timed to the areas dam releases. Spend a day at Hickory Run State Park Hawk Falls Trail. Our townhouse offers a prime location for you and your family to experience the adventure, nature, dining and shopping in Jim Thorpe.

Book our rental for a weekend, a week or longer.

Dee really went out of her way to be accommodating and helpful. She even had coffee and tea and milk , etc in the kitchen. Very welcoming. The house is cozy and very pleasant. Jim Thorpe is a pleasant surprise. Great base to explore the great outdoors.

Absolutely loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Camp On North was absolutely perfect for our family. We each could have our own bedroom (which meant, I finally was able to get some much needed sleep on a vacation for a change instead of being up all night from snoring) and I actually slept in an extremely comfortable bed instead of a bathtub! Everything was so clean and there really was no need to bring anything except ourselves. Dee and Mark Ford (the owners) were so nice! They spent time showing us around, talking with us, supplied doughnuts and items to make pancakes for breakfast, and had plenty of brochures on things to do in the area and places to eat in the area (everywhere they suggested was terrific). I am ready to go back! I would definitely recommend this property to anyone.

Clean, Comfortable Charming and Quiet Townhouse Close to Many Attractions

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Camp on North. The charming three bedroom home was perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults, an 18-yr old daughter and 15-yr old son). It was just as advertised: comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen, storage area for our bikes, access to washer/dryer. The Fords even provided pancake supplies and coffee.

Dee and Mark take great pride in their property. It is very clean and well maintained. We felt very welcome. There was a drawer full of literature for restaurants and activities. They gave us great advice on where to go and how to get to the area attractions.

I would stay here again and recommend it to friends and family.

We particularly enjoyed that it was close enough to downtown to walk but not in the thick of things. We toured the Jail, Packer Mansion and explored the shops in Jim Thorpe. We hiked Glen Onoko Falls and the switch-back trail to the top of Mt. Pisgah. We kayaked on Mauch Chunck Lake. We biked the rail trail at Lehigh Gorge from Glen Onoko to Rockport and back. We also checked out the Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary. If we had more time, we would have done more!

Lovely townhouse!

  • 5 of 5

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home is lovely and spacious for a family of four. The kitchen is filled with plenty of dishware and cookware, and there is even a waffle maker! The beds were comfortable and the full bath was quite spacious. Dee and Mark were extremely hospitable and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!
