Old- world beauty merges recent renovations with modern amenities and design
About Dee Ford
I met my husband Mark when he and his family owned and operated The Hotel Switzerland, now known as Molly Maguires Pub & Steakhouse. We have been in the hospitality business for decades and find enjoyment out of sharing the Guesthouse with others. I personally love the town for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and fresh, clean air and am grateful to call Jim Thorpe home.
Dee Ford purchased this Townhome in 2008
Why Dee Ford chose Jim Thorpe
My career in retail led us to this one of a kind charming building, with a lovely storefront with double display windows. The building has it's own unique personality and I was in awe of the architecture still intact. We embarked on a renovation of the building that will be completely renovated by the end of 2019. I love the challenge, charm, and legends of old houses, the aura of the people who once lived there.
What makes this Townhome unique
Finding charm in the architectural design of this home is the special quality that sold us on this property. Unique in style, the Guesthouse will be fully renovated as an adaptive reuse of a vintage commercial building. While no longer offered as a mercantile trade, today the building is reimagined as a place for adventure seekers to live like a local and explore the natural beauty of the area. The Glen Onoko Guesthouse is recognized as a D&L Trail Friendly Business.

cute little town and cozy apartment
This apartment was super cozy and cute. I really enjoyed the place! Dee was nice, and helpful and local if I needed anything. The house had anything I would need including appliances. I think Dee should post more photos of the place because it is a cute place and a bigger space with more rooms than what I thought based on the listing. I also was a little confused about the location to downtown. You can't really walk because there is a bridge to the downtown area. It is not a big deal but we had to drive and pay to park downtown. The town was so cute with a lot of shops and places to see. I recommend taking a short drive to see buttermilk and lukes falls (about a half hour from the property). The hike is short with 2 water falls. I also went to explore an old tunnel which Dee has in the guest book that was a 6 minute drive from the property and was amazing! I would definitely come back to this town and this property! A ton to do and see but not too busy! I enjoyed a romantic, relaxing weekend!
Perfect place for Jim Thorpe
Great old building with original architectural details, yet completely renovated and updated. The location is great for Jim Thorpe. Only a mile to the downtown area. The property is in a very quiet part of town; no street noise whatsoever at night. There is also a supermarket less than a mile away.
Our host, Dee, was super friendly and responsive. She made recommendations on what to do and see, and provided brochures for every attraction in the area. The property was extremely clean. Not a single spec of dust anywhere.
The kitchen has new appliances and is equipped with dishes, glasses, cutlery, pots, pans, bottle openers, a coffee maker, etc. The property came with snacks, water, ice, and coffee. The linens and towels in the bedrooms and bathrooms were new and fresh.
We had a perfect weekend getaway. Absolutely perfect!
Fun in Jim Thorpe
This property was just about a mile from the center of Jim Thorpe. The property was very clean and well appointed with everything a guest would need to enjoy comforts away from home. I loved the fact that the owner left fresh flowers, and cookies and coffee at the coffee bar. The beds were comfortable, and the outdoor deck was lovely. I would recommend this guesthouse to anyone wanting to explore Jim Thorpe.
Clean, comfortable, and convenient!
Really impressed by the cleanliness and comfort. Dee was very easy to communicate with. This place is spacious and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. This is not walkable to downtown, but it a very short drive, super convenient to all outdoor activities. I would stay again if I return with a group.
Dee and Mark were their when we arrived. They gave us a full run down of there beautiful guest house. We were very impressed with everything! The cleanliness, the attention to detail in every room. It was our first time in Jim Thorpe and we had a great time whitewater rafting and biking the Gorge, especially knowing we were going back to such a beautiful house to relax and unwind! We can’t wait to go back! Dee was nice enough to show us the 1 bedroom suite, it was beautiful! We plan to come back with no kids and have a romantic retreat as soon as we can. If your planning a vacation in Jim Thorpe, Glen Onoko Guest House is the place to stay!!
Planning a vacation? Jim Thorpe is a top rated spot for outdoor enthusiasts. The Mansion House Pedestrian Bridge has recently opened in August that serves as a connector for biking on the D&L Trail. Pedal the 25 mile from White Haven to the Lehigh Gorge State Park - Jim Thorpe access- on the D&L Trail for a wonderful outdoor activity. You can also go whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River at a rafting provider - Pocono Whitewater or the Lehighton Outdoor Center- has daily adventures including bike rentals. You can enjoy hiking activities in the many trails the area has to offer such as Hawk Falls Trail and a must see- a National natural landmark - Boulder Field, and a sandy beach and swimming area at Sand Spring Lake at Hickory Run State Park. Or head out to Mauch Chunk Lake Park ( 3 miles west of the downtown) and rent a kayak and fishing equipment.
Our Guesthouse is an excellent base for exploring some of the town's top attractions including the Asa Packer Mansion, St Mark's Episcopal Church, the Old Jail, and the Scenic Railway. Eclectic shops, museums, the Mauch Chunk Opera House and Penn's Peak are all within minutes from the property. The area has an array of restaurants, a vinyl record store, bars and bike shops. You can spend a day browsing in the shops including Race Street. Visit the Jim Thorpe Memorial, burial site of the town's namesake.
