About the property

Sunny, Spacious, Central, Historic 19th Century Townhouse

Our Guesthouse is part of Jim Thorpe's history - housed above an old soda fountain store circa 1874, this spacious townhouse allows our guests to enjoy the old- world charm that continues to define Jim Thorpe. The building renovations have retained late 19th-century design details, and gives guests the opportunity to admire architectural history with the original storefront and display windows still intact.

Many original details are still in place as the mahogany framed windows, polished wood pillars, solid mahogany staircase. Modern updates include a fully - equipped kitchen with ceramic sink, stainless steel appliances, electric hot water kettle and 10 cup coffee maker. Coffee/tea/spices/sugar are stocked for you. The dining table seats 6. Our spacious living room has comfortable seating with a fold out sofa ( double bed), vintage pieces. All rooms have an overhead ceiling fan.

Our three guest bedrooms are dressed with designer sheets, comforters and quilts. The bedroom on the second floor has a King bed. The third floor front bedroom has a Queen upholstered bed with an attractive view of striking Gothic lighted clock tower church. In the next third floor guest bedroom, a Queen upholstered bed with a mountain view. The nearby bathroom features a cast iron tub along with a generous amount of towels. There is a dressing room for stowing luggage. There is a fold down futon located in an alcove. A half bath is on the second floor.

Guests have exclusive access to the two floors of the Townhouse - just as the shopkeepers did, who lived above the business. You may also access the quiet, secluded courtyard and use of the BBQ grill. The entrance is at the back of the building and on-site parking that makes unpacking easy.

If you are looking for some more space, check out the ground floor studio in the same building. Also, you can inquire in a personal note to rent the entire building with 600 square foot of cafe space for private events.

About Dee Ford

I met my husband Mark, in Jim Thorpe, when he and his family owned and operated The Hotel Switzerland. We have been in the hospitality business for decades and are very knowledgeable about the area.

I am also a certified master gardener, with many hours of volunteer work in the community. I personally love the town for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and fresh, clean air. Spending time in nature with walks in the woods gives me more energy, and a sense of relaxation.

Dee Ford purchased this townhome in 2008

Why Dee Ford chose Jim Thorpe

My career in retail led us to this one of a kind charming building, with a lovely storefront with double display windows.

Unique in style, we have spent the last 10 years improving the building while still maintaining the architectural integrity. We hope you enjoy your stay at our Guesthouse!

What makes this townhome unique

This elegantly re-imagined guesthouse is eco - friendly with the preservation of the property's historic character. Finding charm in the architectural features of this home is the unique quality that sold us on this property. For each Holiday season, I love to trim the display windows with lights and seasonal decor.

We offer off street parking, which is a real positive in Jim Thorpe.

Warm and cozy

  • 5 of 5

This place was just what we hoped for. Dee is a terrific host and personally helped us settle in and was most helpful with area information. She provides everything you might need except for food (of course). Really clean and well equipped. Was perfect for our party of 7 (four adults, two teenagers and one 10 year old). If we vacation in that area in the future we would definable look to stay there again.

Tidy, well stocked townhouse

  • 5 of 5

We went to Jim Thorpe to bike and enjoy the fall foliage with another couple. Glen Onoko Guesthouse was thoughtfully and well furnished. The owners have thought of every detail for a comfortable stay. Dee and Mark, the owners were there to meet us and gave us a very helpful and thorough introduction to the house and area. When I booked GO I didn't realize how the town is laid out on two sides of the Lehigh River and the Guesthouse is not convenient to the historic area of Jim Thorpe where most of the restaurants and shops are.

Lovely house, well managed by owners

  • 4 of 5

Spent 3 nights over labor weekend in Jim Thorpe and stayed at the guest house. The property has great facilities, lovely spacious rooms, and is clean and well maintained. Dee and Mark are incredibly helpful, and turned up to run us through the house and the local amenities in good detail, really helpful for first time visitors to the area. The house is well stocked, and Dee and Mark very kindly provided essentials like coffee, OJ, and pancake mix! House was well located for our white water rafting center, and close to Glen Onoko State park, Penn's Peak, and many other local places of interest.

The house was amazing and a perfect place for our family to stay!

  • 5 of 5

It was a great experience. The owners met us at the house when we arrived and showed us around. Very welcoming. Pancake mix and syrup, cereal, and water were stocked for our use. It was the perfect location, as we were close to all of the places we visited and things we did. Plenty of room for watching movies on a rainy evening, too. We would definitely choose to stay here again should we travel that direction again.
