"The Seaward" is located on Marmion Way, a quiet residential street, known for its lovely homes, gardens and views. We are a short & scenic mile to downtown Rockport which can be accessed along a seaside path. Along the way you’ll pass Old Garden Beach; a good spot for a dip, and 'Headlands' for an outstanding view of Sandy Bay Harbor. If you prefer, take the car or borrow one of our beach cruiser bikes and explore the art galleries, shops and restaurants of downtown Rockport. In town, one can also rent sea kayaks or bikes with gears to tour the magnificent Cape Ann coast.
Rockport is rich with history, art and culture. Dogtown, considered a ghost town, is a large wooded area between Rockport and Gloucester. Most suitable for the adventurous, it affords rich recreation opportunities to hikers and mountain bikers, dog-walkers, nature lovers, geologists and historians.
Halibut Point State Park, and the Atlantic Path are two other treasures which will delight the outdoor enthusiast. Whether you prefer the rocky coastline, a quiet beach, reading a good book, artistic endeavors, biking, birding, kayaking, ocean front dining, theater or music at the renowned Shalin liu, Cape Ann has it all...and more.
- Rockport beaches
- Shalin Liu Performance Center (concerts and shows)
- Art galleries, theaters, museums
- Kayaking and sailing
- Snorkeling and scuba diving

We are about 1.25 miles to Rockport Train Station, by which one can conveniently get to historic Salem or Boston. Trolleys and buses are also available in Rockport as well as a Gloucester Taxi company. Want to come to Rockport by train? Let us know, we might be able to pick you up at the station.
I'm a licences independent clinical social worker. In 2003, I took a respite from working with troubled children and families. With a leap of faith and a sizable mortgage, I took over my families Inn business. Until the main inn and restaurant sold in Dec. 2013, I ran this 24 unit bed and breakfast, hosting weddings/events and, as some of you may remember, our Sunday Morning Live Brunches.
Since the sale I have refurbishing rooms in the building known as GullsNest for weekly rentals.
I have a husband, Peter, two grown children (Kai and Maya), and Little Dipper, my canine side kick.
Nancy Cameron-Gilsey purchased this apartment in 2003
I purchased the property from my sisters after my parents passed away. They started the Seaward Inn in 1945 when it was only considered a cottage. They built and added until it became a 36 unit, highly acclaimed resort.
Both young and older guests love the peace, solitude and high standard of cleanliness (not to mention the ocean views) that is The Seaward.
We have rent the "Spruce Cottage at the Seaward" for two weeks in August 2014 and I feel that we couldn't have made a better choice for perfect vacation. The cottage is facing the sea and located in a beautiful residential neighbourhood area though it is close to downtown Rockport. The interior is small but cosy and clean with plenteous lingerie and all is needed in a kitchen for cooking. Round about the cottage, there are large restful flowery spaces . Our stay was delightful thanks to Nancy, our host, who directed us to the best spots and provides all the informations needed to render everything easyness. I recommand " Spruce Cottage at the Seaward " to those who appreciate friendly atmosphere, restfulness surroundings and closeness to principal points of interest. Lina Beaulieu Québec City
My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay. Nancy welcomed us even though we arrived late at night, and was always available for help and advice. Superb ocean views from our windows. The place is restful and an ideal base to visit Boston and the other New England states. Rockport itself is very pretty and the locals are super nice. We'll come again, and definitely recommend it!
This was our second visit to the Seaward and it just keeps getting better. The suite was clean , comfy and feels like home. Nancy the inn keeper makes sure that you feel totally welcome. The inn has added a nice little kitchenette area since our first stay and we found everything we needed if we wanted to make a quick little meal or snack. There is a gas grill and a picnic area on the upper lawn with a refreshing ocean view. Nancy shared great little spots to pick up fresh local food She also added a laundry area which I thought was a really nice touch if guests need it ,although we didn't actually use it.The view from the room and the balcony porch which has inviting rockers was beyond amazing. You could just sit there all day amd take in the sights and sounds of theocean. This inn is in a quiet residential area with a few other inns and B and B s nearby but close enough to walk to town down a pretty oceanside path to the headlands, Old garden beach , downtown Rockport with the cute shops and wonderful art galleries. There is a quiet cove just a short walk away where you can beachcomb to look for sea treasures or just watch the wildlife early in the morning..A short drive down the road there are many other beautiful beaches but Cape Hedge beach is our favorite one to spend a day in the sand and surf with a long sandy beach and smooth pebbles banking the perfect place to forget it all. This inn comes highly recommended to anyone who likes to feel like you belong there, it not just another crowded , cramped hotel room that makes you well aware that you can only stay for a short bit then you need to move on. It feels like home and Nancy's love for the place comes through in every part of this Inn.
I used to stay here as a child and decided to come back last summer with my girlfriend. I was so pleased to find that many of the rooms had been converted to suites, perfect for a longer stay! Overall experience could not have been better. The accommodations are spotless and clean, the view of the ocean from the front deck is unbeatable and Nancy was an incredibly gracious host. She was very responsive in answering all of our questions and went above and beyond to ensure all of our needs were taken care of. We will be back this year and many more to come. Location was perfect as well. Could not recommend more highly!
The Seaward Inn is in a beautiful part of Rockport -- spectacular ocean view, lovely walks, not far from town. Nancy was the perfect hostess -- there if needed, provided tips for things to do, cares deeply about her Inn and her customers. The lodging was immaculate and included some nice grace touches -- a basket of snacks, fresh ground coffee, cream for the coffee, and equipment for cooking light meals and beverages. A very quiet and peaceful experience.
Lovers Cove at the Seaward Inn was delightful place for us to relax and stay for our daughters graduation from Endicott College. Away from all the bustle of other people and right across the street from rocks and water. Lovers Cove is like a little apartment/efficiency. We had a living area bedroom bathroom and a little kitchen galley area that was perfect we were preparing simple breakfast and lunches. We enjoyed going out to dinner at the restaurants in beautiful Rockport. We enjoyed meeting the owner Nancy, who is the daughter of the original owners when my mother and father used to stay at the Seaward Inn. we look forward to visiting again soon.
The Seaward is a very relaxing, peaceful location. The accommodations were very very clean and comfortable. We had a cute front deck with rocking chairs to sit and watch the breath taking ocean views. We rode up from Boston by train so had no transportation. Nancy picked us up from the train station and gave us a tour of Rockport by car. We were given bicycles to get around the village. I can't tell you how much fun we had for the 2 nights of staying at this location. Highly recommended!
Guests who visit The Seaward comment on the restful atmosphere, while still being close to a wealth of attractions including gorgeous nature preserves, great shopping, boating, whale watching, museums, and sandy beaches. We also offer bicycles to enjoy the winding rocky coastal roads and pathways with stunning vistas and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.
The Seaward is located on Marmion Way, known for its lovely homes, gardens and ocean views. Here you can relax to the soothing ocean sounds, distant fog horn, and seagulls while watching the lobster boats pass by.
