About Penelope Stroud
Our love affair with France started 40 years ago when we spent our honeymoon touring the Loire chateau and we celebrated our ruby wedding anniversary in Languadoc. We bought founders shares in the Channel Tunnel, not our best investment, but it gave us unlimited free travel as we always planned to buy a holiday home once we retired - and now we have! We lived and worked in London until 1981 when John was offered a job in Malaysia. After spending three very happy years in Kuala Lumpur and the birth of our youngest daughter we moved back to the UK (Northampton) and then on to Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), Dubai and finally back to the UK to Norwich with subsequent changes of employer. We have lived in Norwich for the last 16 years and will continue to do so when John finally retires. Our two daughters belong to the boomerang generation and we have lost track of the number of times they have moved out, only to return a few years later! Claire is training to be a teacher and Nikki works for the NHS. Both girls have spent many happy holidays with us in gites and villa we have rented around France before finally deciding to buy our own holiday home in Languadoc. Claire and our grandson, Arthur, have holidayed with us in our Puicheric holiday home in both of the last two years..
Penelope Stroud purchased this House in 2015
Why Penelope Stroud chose Puicheric
We have stayed in most regions of France over the years and decided that the combination of sunshine, historic sights, mountains, rivers, lakes, forests the Mediterranean together with music, food, sporting and cultural festivals made the Languadoc an obvious choice for our holiday home. We wanted somewhere we would enjoy returning to time and again over the years. We wanted three bedrooms so that our friends and family could stay with us and we are looking forward to taking them to our favourite places and restaurants. We also had to have an outside space where we could sit in the evening enjoying a BBQ or a bottle of the excellent local Minervois red wine or the sparkling wine from Limoux. We decided against a swimming pool or a garden because of ongoing maintenance requirements when we could only visit two or three times a year for the next few years until finally John retires. Similarly we wanted a village house that was safe to lock up and leave in a village with all amenities. Finally the house needed to be in an excellent state of repair with bags of character and a Wow factor. It may be small, but it is perfectly formed and well equipped. We hope you enjoy staying there as much as we do..
