Cleaning, towels, bedding and electricity is provided so there are no extra charges. Note that we do not have a fixed change over date so if you are flying (Carcassonne, Perpignan, Toulouse and Beziers are the closest international airports) you will probably find it is significantly cheaper to fly mid week.
Contact us if you want to stay for at least 2 weeks or if you are a small group that will only use one bed as we will offer a discount which is difficult to automate through the Owners Direct website.
Our holiday home is a character stone house that has been converted to a high standard. It has 3 bedrooms, a secure patio / terrace, lounge, kitchen and bathroom (wetroom). The bedrooms have two doubles and three single beds so we can sleep 7 adult guests. We can also provide a travel cot, stair gate, booster seat & pot if you have an infant. The terrace has a gas BBQ, table & chairs.
On street parking for one car by the house or 100 metres away in the chateau car park.
WiFi, flat screen TV, UK satellite TV, a DVD player and two hairdryers are provided. We have also provided DVDs, books, travel guides, a cold box for picnics a fishing rod and a walking pole. Our grandson has left your children some of his toys, beach games, bucket, spade and water pistol!
Puicheric is known as the "Venice of the Minervoise" as it is located between the River Aude and the Canal de Midi, a UNESCO world heritage site, With another UNESCO world heritage site, Carcassonne 20 minutes drive to the west, the Black Mountains and High Languadoc national park to the north, the mountains of Alaric, Corbierres and Pyrenees to the south and Narbonne, Beziere the Mediterranean beach 45 minutes to the east, this is an ideal holiday location.
The village of Puicheric has all amenities: restaurants, bakery, mini market, butcher, tabac, bars, greengrocer, wine cooperative, post office, canoe hire, hairdressers, medical centre & pharmacy. The Puicheric magazine (available from the Marie) will tell you of any fetes, wine tastings, communal meals on the banks of the Aude etc. during your visit.
In addition to the spectacular scenery, great food, wine, history and wonderful climate, the region has a fascinating mix of Spanish and Catalan influences.
In addition to the restaurants in the village there are many excellent restaurants within 10kms and several Michelin starred restaurants within 40 minutes drive.. Google for details of the many major music, cultural, sporting and food festivals in Carcassonne, Narbonne and other nearby locations.
Swim, sail, windsurf, picnic or sunbathe on the lakeside beaches at Lac de Jouarres, Homps (10 kilometres away) and at Carcassonne. The Mediterranean coast has sandy beaches. fishing villages, waterparks, sailing and windsurfing. Enjoy the nearby spa towns, many of which were established almost 2,000 years ago by the Romans.. Discover the tragic and bloody history of the Cathar heresy and explore the remains of their awe inspiring castles perched on seemingly inaccessible mountain tops. If you like mysteries, visit Rennes le Chateau. There are water and theme park for children within one hours drive as well as white water rafting, caves and museums.
There are many spectacular landscapes in the nearby hills and mountains which you can explore on foot, bike, canoe or horseback. Go course fishing in the Aude in Puicheric or fly fishing upstream in the Pyrenees. Of course there are boat trips on the Canal de Midi. The ski slopes of the Pyranees are two hours drive away.
You are in the Minervoise wine region and are surrounded by vineyards advertising tastings or wine tours. Buy a bottle or two from one of our Puicheric vineyards to accompany your evening BBQ on our terrace gazing at Puicheric's medieval chateau as the sun goes down.
Whatever you do during your holiday remember that it is said that life is still lived at walking pace in the Languadoc. Make time to sit and relax by the Canal de Midi watching the boats and barges go by, or sip a cold drink in the shade of a tree in a pavement cafe in any one of the regions picturesque villages or seaside towns.
