About Lenny Layland
This beautiful cabin was custom built by our retiring grandparents 30 years ago. Used in summers and for family get reunions. We just purchased from their estate and updated it so our family and others could continue to enjoy.
Lenny Layland purchased this House in 2014
Why Lenny Layland chose Canton
Quiet and secluded, high on the mountain ridge yet close to town and many activities and adventures.

Great place only problem not enough towels and no washcloths at all had to go buy some. Otherwise no
Great. Only little warm in house but otherwise would highly recommend it
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. I'm not sure what happened with towels since we have a ridiculous number of these and washcloths. Perhaps they weren't all in the bathrooms and weren't discovered in the laundry/linen closet.
Beautiful home and view, crazy drive to the top
Went up for the weekend to do the Lake Logan half ironman race. This home was close and the pictures from the ad looked amazing. Well, they were. Lenny has a wonderful home, very isolated on the top of the mountain. Probably the quietest place on earth as you are so far up the mountain that you can't hear anything but your thoughts. Home was well equipped, TV got the Braves and Atl United games, so we were good there. Deck was peaceful with the hummingbirds all around. My one complaint, which is a biggie which has nothing to do with the house itself or the owner, is that you must navigate a very steep, winding, dirt/gravel road to get up to the house. We had to go up during a rain storm and my SUV skidded a few times due to the mud. Then to get to the race at 5:30 a.m., we had to descend down in the dark, with fog, and it was downright stressful! There are two switchbacks toward the top that caused me to have to back up and make a quarter turn for my SUV to make the turn because it was so severe. Once again, can't stress how peaceful this place is inside, around the deck, etc. But if you aren't driving the right vehicle, afraid of heights, or just don't want to endure 15-20 minutes of tense driving, then you are officially warned. I'm not sure what would have happened if another homeowner had been coming the other way. There was not room for two vehicles or even 1 1/2. It was barely wide enough for my SUV and I stayed awake at night thinking that the rainstorm was going to bring one of the thousands of trees down on the road and we were going to be stuck. No cell service at the top. I think this cabin would be ideal if you brought coolers full of food, your book, and stayed a week. Can only imagine how pretty in the fall too. Just don't bring your convertible!
Beautiful house to get away from everything.
Loved the drive up the mountain to the house. Best part is cell phones don’t work up there. Very nice cozy mountain house
Beautiful house, secluded location- wonderful!
We had a great time retreating here. I was in town for a conference and had family join me. There was ample space for everyone and the house was wonderful. The kitchen had any and everything we needed to be able to cook.
Before we went I read reviews about the driveway. The owner was wonderful in telling me, if possible, to drive it the first time in daylight. That was a great tip. It is steep but I was fine driving it. We had a 4Runner, a Subaru and a small Honda sedan. All vehicles easily maneuvered the driveway, just use caution and be patient. It’s worth the trek up the mountain!!
The owners were great to communicate and help answer any questions we had before arriving. The welcome packet was helpful for while we were there. I highly recommend this home and would visit again in the future.
Great views, great home
We loved staying at Old Sarum. The road was a bit more extreme than we expected, but that's the mountains for you. The view is fantastic -- although a few trees could use trimming. The home has plenty of space/beds. We even got an early morning visit from a neighbor's two dogs making their morning rounds! Definitely recommend this mountain getaway.
A climb to remember
Spent the weekend at this cabin with friends and my fiancé to celebrate her birthday. The drive up the mountain was the most exhilarating experience I’ve encountered in life... next to skydiving. You definitely want someone confident and composed to drive!
2- Get enough groceries for the length of your stay because you will not want to travel up and down the mountain if you can avoid it.
3- This House had everything we wanted and needed.. plenty of space .. plenty of fire wood and an incredible view! We want to come back!
Quiet and secluded with beautiful views on mountain ridge yet close to many cities and attractions. 45 minutes to Asheville and Biltmore. 1 hour drives to skiing, whitewater rafting, cherokee gambling. Closest to great shopping and dining in Waynesville. Great hiking nearby. Waterfalls and scenery nearby on the Blue Ridge Parkway. 10 minutes to Lake Logan and Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp.
