About Owner/Manager

This beautiful cabin was custom built by our retiring grandparents 30 years ago. Used in summers and for family get reunions. We just purchased from their estate and updated it so our family and others could continue to enjoy.

Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2014

Why Owner/Manager chose Smoky Mountains

Quiet and secluded, high on the mountain ridge yet close to town and many activities and adventures.

What makes this house unique

Awesome fireplace and lots of room to enjoy family together or separate. Views from the large deck. Fully furnished with everything a visitor needs.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Arrived to the cabin yesterday. What a beautiful spot! The road is a challenge since we are riding a full dress Harley Davidson with 2 weeks of gear. But, we made it and are enjoying the quiet.

Great way to escape a Hurricane! Although drive up was SCARY!

  • 5 of 5

So I picked this house while trying to escape from Hurricane Irma with 6 other people, and it was one of the only things left in the Asheville area that could accommodate us. Turned out to be an amazing find! The owner was great, especially considering he was dealing with the hurricane himself (in FL!!) and still found the time to answer all of my questions and he even called to check on us after we lost power. The house was beautiful, had absolutely everything you could want or need and plenty of space for everyone.

I am giving this review 5 stars even though I have a complaint because overall, it did not detract from my experience. The drive up the mountain. Holy cow - I live in a very flat area and that was terrifying. Gravel road, super steep and several switchbacks so sharp you couldn't make them without backing up halfway through and trying again. I just think this should be disclosed in the description of the house so people can be prepared. It was mentioned in the info sent, AFTER I rented the house. But it still does not prepare you for the reality.

Overall, this is definitely an amazing house, great views, well stocked and thoughtful owners.

Almost Heaven!!!

  • 5 of 5

Almost heaven...Don't have to be in West Virginia to have a heavenly mountaintop experience! What a fabulous experience at "Old Sarum"! The only downside was we couldn't stay longer. Our family loved this home and getting there is half the fun:).

A Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Eight adult members of our family spent a week together at Old Sarum. We found the facilities to be clean, comfortable and well provided for - plenty of bed linens and towels, kitchen ware, dishes, etc. All we needed was our clothing (of which we packed too much), toiletries, and groceries. The house is quite isolated up a one mile stretch of gravel road, which was one reason it appealed to us. We had been warned about the narrowness, curves, and two switchbacks, but none of us had a problem with the road. We were comfortable in the two bedrooms and a bath on the lower level, master bedroom with two adjoining baths on the mid level, and the sleeping loft with five beds and a futon upstairs. A large dining table, as well as a smaller one and an eating bar provided plenty of seating for meals. There are two gathering areas, one up and one down, with lots of games, jigsaw puzzles, and an enviable library, as well as several TV sets. The view from the porch is spectacular. Several towns are close by enough for groceries, shopping, and dining. Lakes, hiking trails, and outdoor activities are not far away. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 10 miles away. This was a perfect place for a family to explore the area and spend quality time together.

Amazing cabin and view!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing weekend at the cabin! We had a small group there doing the Lake Logan Triathlon weekend, and the cabin was so close! Very clean, plenty of linens and essential items, great kitchen for cooking a big meal to feed the triathletes, and most amazing was the view and the cool mountain air! The drive up to the cabin was a little scary at first, but slow and easy and even my Honda Accord made it just fine! Thanks Lenny! We hope to stay again (maybe next year for the race weekend! :) )

Great Place to Stay!

  • 4 of 5

A group a friend's and I stayed at Old Sarum and it was a great place for a reunion. There were plenty of places to sleep, plenty of items in the kitchen to cook with, plenty of linens to last the weekend and the views were amazing. The deck was incredible, we even had enough room to set up cornhole. We were there the weekend before the 4th of July and the nights got chilly.

I could see where some guests might be intimidated by the drive up to the cabin, but it's really not bad if you just take you time. The gravel road is in good shape and there were no clearance issues for a two-wheel drive sedan. In the winter months when there is snow, this might be a different story.

The owner of Old Sarum was a pleasure to deal with, they answered all inquiries within just a couple of hours. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the internet is limited due to it being satellite. We would have liked to stream music while we were there. I'm guessing that since this cabin is so secluded, it's probably the only option for internet. Overall, this was an awesome place to stay and it was enjoyed by all. I would definitely stay here again.
