Great Property! Excellent hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was as advertised for this property including the reviews of friendly and accommodating hosts. When we arrived the parking was freshly cleaned off after a night of snow and that attention continued on the inside. It was everything we were looking for and we plan on returning in the summer when we can enjoy the deck and large outdoor area.

This cabin hands down made our hunting trip amazing. It was nice to be able to relax after all the hiking we did. The breakfast on the weekends was amazing and it was more than enough to fuel us up in the morning and still have some left over for an afternoon snack.

Relaxing family getaway

  • 5 of 5

It was an excellent choice for us. Not too far from Iowa City and just far enough from the hustle and bustle of a bigger city. Nice alternative which was pet friendly and welcomed our boxer and maltipoo who just loved it. The breakfast was awesome! Thanks for being such great hosts.

Girls weekend

  • 4 of 5

Had a girls weekend in the cabin and it was perfect. Plenty of room for us to lounge and catch up. Fresh cookies waited for us as well as other amenities. The breakfasts delivered to our door was phenomenal!

The Perfect Place To Be (Quiet and Relaxing)!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a reasonable($), friendly, out in the country, on the farm but close to Iowa City and Amish country the Cozy Cabin is where you need to be. Owners Scott and Carmen are the best when it comes to a great stay. My wife and I stayed there for three weeks in order to be close to our daughter and son-in-law who had their first baby and our first grandson.

The hand delivered breakfasts in a basket on weekends were to die for. They were consistently a fresh good old country breakfast. Eggs (omelettes, casseroles, scrambled) bacon, hash browns, pastries and fruit. You named the time and they brought it over.

We picked the Cozy Cabin because we wanted to bring our little dog (Bogey) and Scott and Carmen love animals which makes the Cozy Cabin pet friendly. Every day we would walk Bogey and go to see the ducks, rabbits, chickens, pigs, cows and horses.

By visiting the small grocery store in Kalona (5 minutes away) we picked up our needed items and were set for the duration since the Cozy Cabin has everything you need to cook including a microwave and not to forget to mention it has satellite TV and secured WIFI for the Internet.

With out doubt the next time we need an extended stay close to Iowa City this will be the place for our stay including little Bogey who loved being on the farm.

Thank you Scott and Carmen for everything and being so nice to us during our stay.

Best Regards, Chris and Dianna from Hot Springs, Arkansas

p.s. We enjoyed your dog Lou Lou who is a great companion to have around and is really lovable.

Exceeded our expectations on many levels!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Carmen & Scott's "Cozy Cabin" from Sept. 2-9. 2017. The cabin was everything it was supposed to be, but also so much more. It would be difficult to put into a VRBO description all of the things that came with our stay: Solitude and silence except for the sounds of farm animals, total privacy except for discovering that the cows and the horses in the pasture have chosen to spend a few minutes near the fence below our deck, and charming hosts who invited us into their life to share an evening campfire with them the night before we left. We even found ourselves friends with their dog, "Lulu!" If you are worried about isolation, the high speed wi-fi internet and Dish Network TV kept us connected to the rest of the world as much as we liked. Weekend breakfasts prepared by Carmen and delivered to our cabin by their son was a perk that will likely be unparalleled by any other VRBO vacation anywhere else. It was gourmet!

Nearby Kalona is influenced by the Amish community who are somewhat prevalent in this area. Downtown seemingly is thriving. Every business is occupied, and storefronts are so well kept that it looks like it could be from a movie set. If you enjoy antiques & craft stores, an Amish General Store, but also great restaurants that run the gamut from Mexican to Italian to family dining to a micro-brewery with a fine menu, you can easily spend a couple of days just exploring what Kalona, population 2500, has to offer. Be sure to take advantage of an available bus tour of the Amish countryside that includes information about Amish culture as well as stops as three rural businesses that one would probably never learn about without this activity. If you want the attractions of a bigger city, nearby Iowa City (75,000) is nice college city just a short drive away, and the trip there offers some additional attractions along the way.

Finally, the part of this stay that will vary a little for everyone are the potential exchanges with your hosts, Scott & Karmen. You could stay on their property and farm yard and opt for distance and privacy, or, you can ask a few questions and learn about why they live here, how their hobby farm has expanded, their dreams for the future, how they have helped those around them, and leave - as we did - with an unanticipated friendship. A week in the country at "Cozy Cabin" rejuvenated our spirits.
