Named after aviation hero Charles Lindbergh, Lindbergh Lake is one of the most beautiful, pristine, and largely uninhabited natural lakes in western Montana.
Lindbergh Lake is unique in that only 30% of the shore is developed, consisting of summer homes and a campground. The rest of the more than twelve miles of shoreline consists of natural forest land.
The Lakebed is made up of mostly rock and sand, and the waters are crystal clear like a Caribbean lagoon.
Because Lindbergh Lake is a natural lake and not a man-made reservoir, the water level remains fairly constant throughout the year.
Approximately 70% of the lake shore lies within the boundaries of the US Forest Service land and the Mission Mountain Wilderness Area.
Recently the US Congress appropriated millions of dollars to purchase several additional miles of lakeshore property to insure the lake remains wild and undeveloped and to help protect the native Bull Trout.
There is no un-authorized public access to the lake. The single access road is the private property of the home owners and their guests.
Lindbergh Lake is nestled against the Mission Mountain Range on the west with the Swan Range (Bob Marshall) several miles to the east. These two magnificent mountain ranges tower nearly a mile above the lakes 4,300 ft. elevation.
Glacier Park is only a few hours away and it really needs no explanation other than FANTASTIC!
Lindbergh Lake is located in Montana’s magnificent Swan Valley, roughly two hours south of Kalispell and 90 minutes north of Missoula. It is about seven miles west of US Hwy 93 which is considered one of the most beautiful scenic drives in America.
Holland Lake (a 7 min. drive) has: Horseback riding, canoe and kayak rentals, beautiful lakefront restaurant & banquet facilities. It also has Hiking trails, waterfalls and fishing spots – too numerous to list!
Seeley Lake (a 25 min. drive) has: Rentals of jet skiis, quadrunners, canoes, kayaks, fishing boats, speed boats, snowmobiles and more. You can Golf at the Double Arrow Resort or at Flathead Lake (a 50 min. drive).
Whitefish and Big Mountain (80 minutes away) have: Mountain Biking, Zip lining, tree
top walking path, theater, etc..
This cabin is easy to get to from any place in the US no matter whether you are flying or driving it is the heart of some of the best, most scenic parts of Montana.
The Swan Valley is absolutely beautiful in the summer. Lush green meadows accent rugged mountainous backdrops on either side of the valley. The Swan River cuts a swath through the entire length of the valley and feeds many beautiful lakes along the way. If you are a fan of water recreation then this is your paradise. Dozens of lakes for water skiing, boating, fishing and more are just minutes from the cabin. Also the Bob Marshal wilderness area with it’s millions of acres of lakes, mountains, rivers and wilderness is just a stones throw from here as well.
In Fall this property is covered with western Larch, a unique needled pine tree which loses its needles in the fall and grows them back in the spring early in the fall the needles turn bright yellow and slowly get more golden orange color. Their needles fall and cover the ground with a beautiful “gold dust.” This phenomena is truly spectacular to behold. You’ll swear that you have found the end of the rainbow.
“Indian summer” often lasts well into November and brings vibrant fall colors as beautiful as any part of the United States.
There are very few people on the lake in the fall, making you feel like you have the entire lake to yourself, and often times you will!
Winter too is a beautiful season at Lindbergh Lake. Many years the snowfall is heavy sometimes five or more feet in depth. If you enjoy skiing, ice fishing, ice skating or snowmobiling, the Swan Valley is more than able to accommodate your every wish.
Several of the homeowners on Lindbergh Lake are year-round residents. Several others use their homes periodically in the winter. As such, the county regularly clears and maintains the road throughout the winter making access fairly simple with a four wheel-drive vehicle.
One of the nations most famous ski resorts, the Big Mountain at Whitefish, Montana is just two hours north of this property. There are also several other ski areas within an hour or two radius of this property, such as Blacktail Ski area in Lakeside, and Snow Bowl Ski Area just outside of Missoula. And in the winter you’ll enjoy ice skating, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowmobiling and more.
The Cabin is located in the heart of one of the prime fishing areas of Montana. This is a true “fisherman’s paradise” with literally dozens of prime wilderness fishing lakes and streams at your doorstep. Several great locations are easily accessible by car. If you are a bit short of time, or energy but you still want to get your line wet, walk 20 feet to the water’s edge, cast your line out for a few hours and more than likely go home with a meal fit for a king.
If you are feeling a bit more adventurous however, you could point your boat toward the head waters of the lake. Fishing can be great right where the headwaters enter Lindbergh Lake, or you can dock your boat and hike back in to the unparalleled beauty of the Mission Mountain wilderness. Here you can explore lakes and streams which are totally inaccessible by car. You could fish all day without ever seeing another soul.
Only a dozen miles across the valley from here lies the entrance to the huge Bob Marshal wilderness. The “Bob”, as it has been named by the locals, abounds with every sort of wild game, and spectacular fishing. Guides, outfitters and packers are available to help introduce you to this wild and remote wonderland.
Outdoor enthusiasts travel thousands of miles to hunt and fish here. From the Lake you can see the beautiful Swan Range which forms the western boundary of this unique wilderness area.
If I could paint you a picture of paradise, this is what I would paint…
Tucked away in the quiet solitude of the Flathead National Forest and sheltered on either side by two of Montana’s most majestic mountain ranges, the Mission Range and the Swan Range, this exquisite piece of Montana land rests quietly on the shores of idyllic Lindbergh Lake.
Relax on THE front deck each morning and drink in the freshness and sweet smell of pure Montana.
Witness the rare beauty of a Bald Eagle or Osprey as they swoop down over the placid waters of Lindbergh Lake to catch their morning breakfast.
Curl up with a good book and gaze out your picture windows as massive thunderheads roll in from the western front and pour in over the Mission Range, blessing the lush Swan Valley with an afternoon shower.
Kick back with a fresh cup of coffee in the evening and whisper goodnight to the sun as she sinks down over the Mission Mountains and illuminates Lindbergh Lake with a deep crimson glow.
On any given day you and your family and friends can enjoy…
Water skiing, Inner tubing, Wake boarding, Canoeing, Sailing, Kayaking, Paddle boating, Fishing, Parasailing, Swimming, Snorkeling (the waters are crystal clear and you can see right to the bottom of the lake), Scuba diving, Sunbathing, A peaceful lunch or dinner from the dock, Pack a lunch and picnic on a secluded sandy beach on the opposite shore of the lake.

About the owner: I was born and raised in Missoula and spent my summers on Lindbergh Lake as a child at my grandfathers cabin, which sits next door to mine. He built that cabin in the mid 50's and it was the third private cabin ever built on the lake. Since then all available lots have been purchased, but because two thirds of the lake is either forest service or public lands the lake remains very private and doesn't get the volume of traffic that many of the lakes in the area get. I love the privacy and the crystal clear glacier fed water.
Why the Owner Chose Missoula County, MT, USA:
The only rental available on Lindbergh Lake.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Less than one third of the lake has cabins on it making this a very private lake, and as far as I know this is the only rental on the entire lake.
