Das Rieder Hausli is a recently built three story Victorian style custom designed home of 3323 sq. ft. (309 sq. m). It has six bedrooms, two laundries, two kitchens, a wet bar, living/dining great room, a den and a gas grill (plumbed to the house) on the deck.

The third floor has three bedrooms; with a king, two queens and two twins. And each has an en-suite bathroom with an antique roll top claw foot tub.

The middle floor bedroom has twin-xl and king beds and an en-suite shower bath. There's also a fully equipped kitchen, wet bar, laundry/mud room, the living/dining great room, a gas grill on the deck and a garage. The middle floor with the third floor which sleeps 11 may be booked separately from the lower/Garden floor. Contact manager Nicole Bellman for booking information. The lower or Garden floor has two bedrooms; one with Cal-king and twin daybeds and the other with a queen bed and each has an en-suite bathroom. There is also a fully equipped kitchenette, den and laundry. This floor with its private entrance which sleeps five, may also be booked separately from the two upper floors. HD Dish TV and Wi-Fi are provided as are books, board games, jigsaw puzzles, CDs, cassettes, LP records (remember those?) which can be played on either floor's stereo systems. We also have DVD and VCR movies. There is a flat screen TV in the middle floor living room area and a large CRT TV in the Garden floor den.

Das Rieder Huasli is perched at 9,376 ft. (2.856 m) above mean sea level on Quality Hill and is surrounded by fabulous views of the San Juan Mountains. Silverton has the best 4th of July fireworks on the western slope. Even though dRh is perched on Quality Hill it is still within a few block walking distance to historic downtown Silverton where you'll find a Carnegie Library, the refurbished 100 year old school, the Mining Museum and many other historic buildings and fine shops and restaurants.

There is an attached heated garage to keep the snow and frost off of your vehicle (Silverton has only 14 frost free days a year). There are racks for storing your skis or snow boards and a work counter with tools available if needed. A lighted Christmas tree is available for set up if you wish and Forth of July decorations. Ask manager Nicole Bellman about the extra charge for the RV hook up (120V/20A, water and sewer).

Das Rieder Hausli with its ten beds in the six bedrooms and with the adequately equipped kitchens, laundries, great room and den will easily accommodates large groups. Why Nicole Bellman, propery manager chose Southwest

The owner has always wanted to build a house ever since he was a little boy; so, in 1996 he designed and built his dream home which is now Das Rieder Hausli. The owners family found Silverton in the late 1950's and fell in love with it because it reminded them of Alaska where they once lived.

What makes this house unique

Silverton is in a cauldron of an ancient volcano which formed these magnificent San Juan Mountains (a unique group within the Rocky Mountains). Because of the high altitude 9,318 ft.(2840 m) Silverton summers are in the 70's (21's C) by day and 30-40's (0 -5's C) at night (there are only 14 frost free days a year). The winters are cold with lots of snow; great for winter sports. The three ski areas are Durango Mountain 22 miles (36 km) south, Silverton Mountain six miles (10 km) north and Kendall Mountain right here in town.

Thank you so much for the use of your beautiful home. We have always loved to visit Silverton and staying at Das Rieder Hausli made our time here prefect. The views are breathtaking, the house is lovely, so comfortable, and beautifully decorated. A private bath with every bedroom is a bonus! Sitting on the porch, with a cup of coffee, overlooking the town and Kendall Mountain, is a great way to start the day. I enjoyed poking around the shops in town, too.

I can't wait to talk with our family about all coming up for a reunion. Or... I may just gather some friends for a Quilting Getaway! We could sit and sew, looking out at the mountains all around, for days and days!

We will be returning to Das Rieder Hausli !

  • Five of the bathrooms have electrical wall heaters for additional heat plus ceiling heat lamps; the sixth bath has its electric heater in the ceiling. There are four antique tubs with showers over on three, and the forth one is in a bathroom with a fiberglass shower. There is also a fiberglass tub shower plus a four foot fiberglass shower. There are two pedestal sinks and four faux marble vanities (one with a double sink). Even though all six bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms , one on each floor may be entered by a second door allowing access to a bathroom so no one has to go through a bedroom. The Poppy bath may be entered from the third floor hall, the Hydrangea bath from from the laundry/mud room and the Columbine bath from the Garden floor hall by the Mechanical Room.

  • For fun try this: From the video, photos and descriptions; you and your group might plan ahead as to which room, bath and area of the house best suits the needs of each person or persons of your group ahead of time; then upon arrival what fun it will be for everyone finding 'their room'. This technique might give a nostalgic feeling. (Have we been here before?) The third floor has three bedrooms; the Lilac Suite with its queen and two twins, the Buttercup Room with its queen bed and Poppy Room with its king bed. The mid/main floor has the Hydrangea Room with its twin-xl and king beds. The Garden floor has two bedrooms; the Daisy Room with its day-bed and Cal-king beds, and the Columbine Room with its queen bed. All six bedrooms have fabulous views of the mountains and en-suite bathrooms. There is also a folding crib/playpen and a highchair. [It is set up in the Poppy Room but can go anywhere.]

Notes:
The mid floor may also be entered from the garage. So if there is someone in your group with a mobility issue, everything needed for their comfort is on this floor; kitchen, bedroom, 4 ft. (122 cm) handicap shower, great room, wood stove, wet bar, laundry and a deck with the gas grill. The bath doors are wide enough for a wheelchair. The owner being a Polio victim had this level designed for her; that's why there is commercial carpet in the kitchen and bath instead of tile (so that her crutches wouldn't slip). At this altitude air conditioning is not only not needed, but heat may be needed even in the summer; so bring warm clothing. Riding the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train, hiking, jeeping and skiing or boarding the ski areas could be on your 'bucket list'. Or, how about the quilt show, Rail Fest, Skijoring or backpacking just to name a few more. There's an artificial lighted Christmas tree stored in the garage you may set up at Christmas and 4th of July items.

Great place! Super Spacious and located close to town

Are group recently stayed here for a club trip to Silverton. Plenty of space, great windows to look out at the area and located close to town. Worked great for us and we will be back!

Great Family Trip

The location was fabulous. We have been traveling to this area for several years but this was the first year to stay in Silverton. It was great, close to the mountain passes, all the fun and activities of Silverton but still close enough to visit Ouray, Durango, Telluride and Lake City. This was great for the whole family all 9 of us and the dog. Plenty of parking even for our trailers with quads. Thanks and we will be back.

Home away from home

This was our second stay at Das Rieder Hausli and this is definitely THE place to stay with a large group! The owners put a lot of thought into building and furnishing the home. Everything for your comfort is provided. We especially enjoyed the kitchen area, as everyone would congregate while we were preparing meals. The views from the house are spectacular! Thank you for allowing us to use your home!

wonderful place

wonderful place to stay! this home is very accommodating with 6 beds & baths. we had a family reunion with my parents, siblings and children. the kitchens had smaller appliances like crock pots, toasters and coffee makers, which we used a lot. its like a home away from home! the garage was nice for all our jackets, boots and outdoor gear to stay dry without being in the house.... do watch out for chipmunks, they like to sneak in when the garage door is up. with a large group its fun to be close enough to walk to town, but not be so close to other houses. you can even hear the train whistle if you open the windows. you can tell the owners desire you to have a pleasant stay with all they have done for your added comfort while you are there.

Perfect ski property

If you plan to visit Silverton or even better ski Silverton mountain there is no better place to stay! Beautiful, very large home with a social kitchen to visit in. Walk to main street and enjoy the amazing views. Nicole is wonderful to work with!

Excellent for large groups

I rented this house for a big group of people attending an Avalanche Course. This house easily accommodated 12+ in our group with 2 kitchens and lots of bedrooms and bathroom. Everyone had tons of personal space and a garage for all our skis and wet gear.

Bachelor/Bachelorette parties, birthdays, family reunions. This house would be a great option for any big group wanting to play in the mountains together.

The need of a four wheel or all wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended, especially for the drive up the 14% snow packed grade of 10th Street to Das Rieder Hausli in winter. And a high clearance 4x4 comes in handy for tackling Silverton's well known jeep trails. Backpacking and hiking these San Juan Mountain's 14ers (4.300 m) are on many a 'bucket' list. People come from all over to attend Silverton's famous fourth of July events and fire works, (which have the reputation as the best on the western slope). Other events, such as Skijoring, Rail Fest, Hardrockers, Snow Mobile Races, Hardrock Hundred mile Foot Race, The Iron Horse Bicycle Race, Quilt Show, Barbershopers and the Great Rocky Mountain Brass Band are just a few of the many events going on in Silverton throughout the year.

Bookings are handled through: Manager Nicole Bellman (970)759-0943, powgal@hotmail.com. Since this is a large house, she must have the change-over/prep days for cleaning and preparation. The prep days are the day a guest checks out and the day next guest checks in. If there is a colored triangle in that day, it's a prep day and therefore not available for booking, so please understand this when booking to avoid any possible conflict.
A three night stay may be allowed for Regular and Off Seasons at certain times of the year but will be prorated. A four night minimum stay is not available for the Peak Seasons of July or Christmas/New Years, however five or six night stays may be allowed under certain conditions or special circumstances. The main/middle floor and third floor which sleeps 11 may be booked separately (not available Christmas, New Years or July); the Garden floor which sleeps 5, may also be booked separately (not available November-April or July). VRBO prices may not be accurate do to the town of Silverton's $2.00 per night lodging tax. If you plan on staying less than or more than the seven nights; then it will be different [$2.00 x number of nights] from the $14.00 (seven nights). In any case, property manager Nicole Bellman will have the correct total price including all taxes. The owners of Das Rieder Hausli work hard at keeping the prices reasonable and accurate, however the prices could change without notice. Property manager Nicole Bellman will determine the final booking price including any extras; e.g. number of days, number of persons, pet fee, RV fee, additional cleaning charge, whole house, upper floors or Garden floor and all taxes.
