This is a sprawling 2000 sq. ft. mid-century modern house built in 1959 with original vintage and tiki interior features including 2 bars! It is ideally situated between the village of Joshua Tree and the National Park on a paved road in a quiet neighborhood.

This house was built in 1959 with entertaining in mind and features original mid-century details and furnishings. The tiki interior and 2 separate bars set the mood for relaxing and fun-filled gatherings. There are 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms - each at opposite ends of the house. There is a king bed in the master bedroom and queen bed in the guest bedroom. There are also 2 twin beds in the family room which can serve as a 3rd bedroom for larger groups. The house is basically configured as separated master and guest wings. The guest wing includes a bedroom, newly remodeled bathroom, kitchenette, and family room and has a separate entrance. The master wing includes a bedroom, dressing room with lighted make-up mirror, bathroom, pantry, full kitchen, dining area, large living room, and amazing bar between the living room and kitchen. This is a very unique house and it is particularly unusual to find a mid-century gem like this as there is little in the way of architectural homes to choose from in the Joshua Tree area. Vintage furnishings and decoration and stereos with record players and an extensive record collection allow you to immerse yourself in another time. Modern conveniences include a large smart TV with Netflix access, cable, DVD/CD player, wireless internet, new refrigerator with ice maker, and gas BBQ grill assure a comfortable stay. There are 2 outdoor dining tables and seating for 12 on the back patio. A firepit and lounge chairs in the back yard are great for stargazing at night. A new 7 person hot tub is located on the back patio. The shady front porch features a porch swing perfect for relaxing and enjoying the panoramic view.

Good Times at Tiki House

Great stay at this impeccably decorated Tiki House. We loved the outdoor fireplace, ice maker and record collection. Large house with different areas to spend time. Hope to return!

Perfect place for families

We stayed a week with our grandchildren to explore Joshua Tree National Park. The Tiki House was the perfect place for us. It's like 2 separate accommodations with family rooms, baths, bedrooms & bars. Kitchen was well-equipped for cooking in, including the waffle maker! the 70's decor really was a hit with the 9 and 11 year olds. We spent alot of time reminiscing with our grandchildren. They played albums on the record player, played lots of games, loved the instruments with the microphone, and fell in love with the typewriter, now on a Christmas list! Proximity to park was great - we managed to hike a total of 18 miles during our stay! which made the hot tub a bonus, if not a little too hot for our New England bodies. We would highly recommend it as a place to stay.

Back to the 50’s abs 60’s

The mid-century modern decor gives this property an awesome feel. We loved using the turn-tables to listen to the eclectic collection of music. The rooms are cozy, the kitchen has all the appliances and equipment and the common areas are great to sit around to talk and listen to music. Access to the Joshua Tree NP is very convenient and the Visitor Center, Saloon and Coffee are less than. 5 minutes drive. Would return anytime!

Tiki House is a real gem!! The architecture is mid century, and the home is filled with unique and fun items of that time period. There is a fabulous record collection and the home is equipped with current electronics to enhance the enjoyment! Mark is an exceptional and attentive host. I stayed at the tiki house with 4 friends over my birthday weekend. The property is to die for! The backyard is extremely private and homey, we had such a hard time leaving. With so many games and things to do around the house, the beautiful record collection, great communication by Mark, I would absolutely stay here again.

Really Fun; Great Experience

Our family of 5 (kids 11, 7, and 6) stayed 3 nights over Spring Break and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We happily wore out the record collection, instruments and games in the game/music room, enjoyed outdoor fires and dining and generally found hanging out at the house, exploring all the carefully curated and original details, more fun than driving around to some of the local destinations like Pioneertown. We also needed to get in touch with the owner during our stay and he was right over to help. One of our more memorable vacation rentals.

Joshua Tree Classic

We really enjoyed our stay in this timeless home. Everything was very clean and easy to find. We loved the uniqueness of the music/gameroom and all of the amazing art. This home is very large and has a separate room/kitchenette and restroom. The backyard is enclosed and it is minutes away from Joshua Tree National Park. The owner was very helpful and made sure we arrived to a warm cozy home. Will book again!

Perfect getaway

We had the perfect getaway at Tiki House. The pictures showcase the property exactly as it is and we all enjoyed the house and the area immensely. Mark was a great at communicating through the whole process. We look forward to another trip in the future.

Vintage treasure

The house is a museum of vintage space-age nicknacks and an amazing vinyl record collection. The kitchen was plenty big enough to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Private backyard. Teens stay in one end of the house, parents in the other. I'm now obsessed with the sound of that Wurlitzer electric piano. We loved it!

nice quiet retreat in Joshua Tree

This expansive property was a great getaway from Palm Springs over the President's Day weekend. The host gave great restaurant and shopping suggestions and the space itself was a weird time capsule from the 60s, which we appreciated : ) We made great use of the record player and ukulele. Thanks again!

Large and spacious, fully furnished with everything needed for your stay (except food of course)! We truly enjoyed the record albums, games and puzzles. Located close to JTNP and restaurants. Highly recommend!

Right outside Joshua Tree!

We loved this place and it was super convenient to the main park visitor center. Our kids enjoyed the old school Board games like Risk! Super fun to use the hot tub, outdoor fireplace and kitchen. We'd definitely return and Mark was super super friendly.

THE place to stay when visiting Joshua Tree

This place is like staying at my family home in 1965. The technology, look, and feel are great for spending time with old friends and reminiscing. Our oldest daughter and her family and our son stayed here a few years ago and loved it and said if we ever visited Joshua Tree National Park we should use it as our base. She was so right.

Great house to get away from it all

My husband and I stayed here with our two adult children for Christmas. We enjoyed the unique decor and the separate quarters. We spent 4 days listening to the amazing record collection and playing games. We decided it was a good time to not use the TV. The hot tub was also great. Kitchen was well equipped and overall the house was clean. It was perfect for Josuha Tree.

Lots of character

It wasn't fancy, but it was clean and entertaining. We loved the aqua tile kitchen--right out of the 50's or 60's. We likened it to Dick VanDykes era. It was in a local quiet neighborhood. It was LOADS of fun--Tiki bar, remote control accent lighting, 2 turntables with lots of old albums, hot tub, and comfortable beds. Close to the park entrance. It was lovely and would be great for 2 families or kids.

We recently relocated permanently to Joshua Tree from the Silverlake area of Los Angeles. They operate several vacation rentals in Joshua Tree. Laura teaches yoga and owned a yoga studio - Glendale Yoga in Glendale, CA - which is now closed but operates virtually from Joshua Tree. We both grew up in Cincinnati, OH but have lived in California for 30 years. We love everything that California has to offer but are particularly enamored with the beautiful scenery and interesting community of Joshua Tree.

Why they chose this property

We own several properties in Joshua Tree but could not resist purchasing this mid-century gem because of the architecture and interior features. We love vintage furnishings from the 40s to the 70s and this house is a perfect showcase for our finds. The master wing of the house has a very 40s feel and features original tile in the amazing kitchen and bathroom and bamboo and thatch built-ins like you would find in a tiki bar. The guest wing of the house has more of a 60s feel. The sprawling house has great separation between the master and guest. The house has a great back yard with beautiful block and stone work and is totally enclosed for privacy and security. The house sits high on the south side of Joshua Tree village and the shady front porch offers panoramic views. The house is on a paved road in a quiet neighborhood and it is only 10 blocks to the village and just 3 miles to the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park so the location is ideal.

What makes this property unique

This house was custom-built in 1959 with relaxing and entertaining in mind and is truly a time warp. If you like retro and vintage then you are going to love this property as most of the original features of this 1959 house are still intact. The house is ideally situated for enjoying the Joshua Tree area and features views from the swing on the shady front porch and a great back yard for dining and enjoying the starlit night sky.
