About Eric Zacher

We first visited Camp Nelson, the beautiful Tule River, and the giant redwoods of Belknap Campground many years ago. When we returned in 2013, we were thrilled to discover the unchanged peace and beauty of the forest, and were fortunate to find and purchase this Enchanted Clover Cabin. Decorated and furnished for our own family's comfort, it has become one of our favorite destinations and we visit frequently. We are happy to share it with you as well!

Why Eric Zacher chose Camp Nelson

Leave your worries down the mountain and relax in Camp Nelson, the secret gem of the Southern Sierras! Take a step back in time in this charming cabin, built in 1944. Recently renovated, freshly painted and furnished, this cabin has all the modern conveniences of home. On the new front deck, you can barbeque as you enjoy the forest, and watch the deer as they drink from the stream.

Downstairs, the cabin features a bright, newly remodeled and fully stocked kitchen and dining room. A cozy living room with a remote-controlled gas log fireplace is perfect for reading, watching your favorite DVDs on the TV, or just relaxing in front of the fire. The sofa pulls out to a double bed, and the powder room is conveniently situated off the living room.

Upstairs you will find an attractive full bath located between two private, treetop bedrooms, each furnished with comfortable queen beds.

What makes this cabin unique

Zax Clover Creek Cabin is close to the Nelson Tavern and General Store, the 'hub' of the village, only a quick walk from miles of beautiful forest trails. Enjoy a short drive up the mountain to Ponderosa, Dome Rock, and the Trail of 100 Giants.

Been at least 25 years since I was last in the town of Camp Nelson. The cabin is in a nice setting with a nice deck overlooking the creek. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. Did hiking, fishing and just plain relaxing.

charming getaway cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved this perfect little cabin for our Christmas in the woods. The welcoming fireplace was lit and glowing when we arrived. The place had elegant charm and tasteful decorations which made our stay comfortable and festive. We took hikes every day and then relaxed on the deck. We made yummy meals in the cute kitchen and watched movies and drank hot cocoa in the living room. Can't wait to return again.

Charming and comfortable nature hideaway

  • 4 of 5

The Clover Cabin was a wonderful getaway from the big city! It welcomed us with a warming fireplace, backyard creek, and well-stocked kitchen. We enjoyed the nearby Nelson Tavern and driving to the trail of 100 giants. One word of warning: if you plan on using the pull-out couch as a bed, you may want to consider bringing and using an air mattress instead. It seemed even more uncomfortable than your average pull-out couch.

Charming cabin

  • 5 of 5

The photos posted did not do the cabin justice.

The following are a few of the cabin’s amenities, which impressed us:

1. It met our “above average” standards for cleanliness.

2. The kitchen was updated and contained dishes and cookware, which were plentiful and serviceable. (No chipped dishes.)

3. The furnishings downstairs and upstairs were comfortable and inviting.

4. It had an abundance of lighting throughout – overhead fixtures, lamps, wall sconces and flameless candles.

5. A gas fireplace provided heat and ambience.

6. Décor, which demonstrated the owner’s love of the mountains and provided interest, without being “over the top”.

7. Large windows in every room provided striking views of the forest.

Unfortunately we rented the cabin while there were two wildfires in progress. Noxious smoke filled the air, which made it impossible for us to enjoy the cabin’s deck or to hike on the nearby trails. We would like to return in the spring, so we can enjoy the “outdoors” as much as we enjoyed the “indoors” this stay.

We wish to thank Eric and his family for sharing their charming cabin with us.

Thanks also to Cheri and Stacy for their professionalism – from our initial inquiry – to the prompt return of our damage deposit.

Great mountain home.

  • 4 of 5

Took our three adult children and dog for four days between Christmas and the new year. This place has it all. Super Camp Nelson location for walking, tasteful decor, easy parking, lots of coat racks, large and well equiped kitchen, beds very warm and cozy and comfortable. It was a far cry from your typical mountain retreat that is furnished with leftovers, this was up to date and well maintained. I would not recommend this for five adults, we managed, but a bit tight. Perfect for two couples, or couple with kids, or a couple of gals for the weekend. Thoughtful pet ammenities were a plus. Be aware that the bedrooms are upstairs and the handrails are very short. Chipped dishes, no cable, short on comfortable seating for more than four in living room, benches not chairs at dining table, a hunt for towels, leftover condiments in fridge with no date, and snow on steps not removed before arrival kept this from getting a five.
