We first visited Camp Nelson, the beautiful Tule River, and the giant redwoods of Belknap Campground many years ago. When we returned in 2013, we were thrilled to discover the unchanged peace and beauty of the forest, and were fortunate to find and purchase this Enchanted Clover Cabin. Decorated and furnished for our own family's comfort, it has become one of our favorite destinations and we visit frequently. We are happy to share it with you as well!
Eric Zacher purchased this cabin in 2013
Leave your worries down the mountain and relax in Camp Nelson, the secret gem of the Southern Sierras! Take a step back in time in this charming cabin, built in 1944. Recently renovated, freshly painted and furnished, this cabin has all the modern conveniences of home. On the new front deck, you can barbeque as you enjoy the forest, and watch the deer as they drink from the stream.
Downstairs, the cabin features a bright, newly remodeled and fully stocked kitchen and dining room. A cozy living room with a remote-controlled gas log fireplace is perfect for reading, watching your favorite DVDs on the TV, or just relaxing in front of the fire. The sofa pulls out to a double bed, and the powder room is conveniently situated off the living room.
Upstairs you will find an attractive full bath located between two private, treetop bedrooms, each furnished with comfortable queen beds.
Zax Clover Creek Cabin is close to the Nelson Tavern and General Store, the 'hub' of the village, only a quick walk from miles of beautiful forest trails. Enjoy a short drive up the mountain to Ponderosa, Dome Rock, and the Trail of 100 Giants.
Took our three adult children and dog for four days between Christmas and the new year. This place has it all. Super Camp Nelson location for walking, tasteful decor, easy parking, lots of coat racks, large and well equiped kitchen, beds very warm and cozy and comfortable. It was a far cry from your typical mountain retreat that is furnished with leftovers, this was up to date and well maintained. I would not recommend this for five adults, we managed, but a bit tight. Perfect for two couples, or couple with kids, or a couple of gals for the weekend. Thoughtful pet ammenities were a plus. Be aware that the bedrooms are upstairs and the handrails are very short. Chipped dishes, no cable, short on comfortable seating for more than four in living room, benches not chairs at dining table, a hunt for towels, leftover condiments in fridge with no date, and snow on steps not removed before arrival kept this from getting a five.
My husband I (from southern Utah) met up with my brother and sister in law (from the Bay Area) for four days of relaxation, hiking, games and visiting ... oh, and eating. We looked at many cabins before we chose the Clover cabin and we certainly made the right choice. This cabin is clean and comfortable and the décor is perfection. My sister in law and I are very fussy housekeepers; it met our standards and that is saying a lot. The decks offer beautiful space to soak up the sun, read and enjoy good conversation. The kitchen is well equipped and large enough for 2-3 people to be working at the same time. Appliances were new and well maintained and we all loved the tiny dishwasher. The bedrooms were more spacious than appear in the photos and the beds offer a most comfortable night's sleep. We were a bit concerned about there only being one full bath, but that turned out to be no problem. The half bath downstairs helped avoid lines for the main bath. The tiny doors several people have mentioned were one of the first things we sought out and they are delightful. We were able to visit with the neighbors across the street as well as those next door, all extremely friendly people who gave us excellent suggestions for hikes and places to see. If you are tired of stress, want to unwind and gear back, but still have the conveniences of home, this is a must do. I can't wait to go back.
Our stay was perfect! We just wanted to get out of town for the weekend and Camp Nelson is only a short drive from Bakersfield. The cabin was beautiful (the tiny doors all over simply enchanted me!) and also well stocked with anything we might've forgotten. We were a group of three friends and there was plenty of space for us to relax and have "me-time" as well as lots of seating for when we wanted to come together. The deck out back allowed for much Grey Squirrel watching (I saw one with the HUGEST fluffy tail!!) and BBQ'ing. We spent a lot of our time exploring the area, which is great for hiking. The manager, Cheri, was super helpful and really made getting the cabin at short notice a non issue. I appreciate the time taken in maintaining this cabin for others to share and enjoy. Definitely looking forward to another stay here!
This cabin was amazing. It was in a picture perfect setting. Clean and comfortable...well stocked. After losing cell service and driving up the mountain to our cabin, we remembered all the things we forgot. I assured my husband that there was a general store in camp Nelson. Once we arrived at the cabin, our expectations were simply blown away. It was perfect...fireplace was on. When they say pantry items...they mean. They had everything that we had forgotten. We did go to the general store and buy items to replace what we had used. If you go, you must go to the camp Nelson campground...it is a beautiful area. We also hiked the Bear Creek trail, and drove on up to Ponderosa and did some hiking there as well. If having no internet freaks you out, I suggest a visit to Pierpoint Tavern. They have wifi, tv, and possibly the best onion rings I've ever had. You can't go wrong with this one. Thanks for sharing.
Small, cozy, comfortable, quaint, clean, well cared for and tastefully decorated and furnished, this home was perfect for our family Thanksgiving with two adult children and two small dogs. We loved the relaxed and homely feel of the place as a base for hikes, games in the evening, napping and reading, and catching up with each other. The kitchen and dining areas were plenty big enough for us to share in the cooking and serving of our holiday dinner and hearty breakfasts, and the home gave our candlelit turkey meal a hint of Norman Rockwell. Outside temperatures were low and we found that the house can get a bit chilly if left unoccupied for long but the propane fire in the living room throws out a nice heat to gather around. Beds were extremely comfortable, with everyone sleeping like a log. The single bathroom is tiny by modern standards but served its purpose well. When the power went out one evening, the cheerful and friendly Manager drove from her home to our front door to make sure we were okay. That was a nice gesture. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this to those who enjoy a quieter, simple, life; love trees; and can appreciate the owner's finer touches. The house is comfortable enough to hang out in but it also makes a good base for trail lovers to return at the end of each day.
