About The Owner

We are a Portuguese husband and English wife team who frequently visited Portugal for holidays. We chose Tavira to settle and raise our family, as not only was it my husbands birth place, but also one of the most beautiful and family orientated places we had ever been to. The children settled and adjusted to life in Portugal immediately and have all been educated locally. My husband is in construction and I am forever finding him little jobs to do. Our Tavira house project started out as one of these little jobs..

Why The Owner chose Tavira

We immediately fell in love with the house. It was in a bad state of repair, but had such great potential and such a unique feel to it. Something that we couldn’t let slip by was the chance to own a part our family culture and heritage and the great opportunity to conserve this for future generations. Just a lick of paint is the phrase I remember using to convince my husband to buy. In reality we replaced everything, all that remained was the original outer thick clay and stone walls and it’s amazing historical location which can never be taken away. The renovation was a joint family effort and has been described by our family and friends as a true labour of love..

What makes this house unique

We consider ourselves to be very priviliged to own a part of the Historical Old Town. During renovation we made the decision not to destroy this unique house by converting it into two separate apartments, but to keep the original size, structure and fabulous outdoor spaces. Renovated to a high standard, yet remaining charming, original, comfortable and quirky with all modern living conditions. We used locally sourced traditional materials like the handmade clay floor tiles and high wooden ceilings. It is a true representation of the unique atmosphere that Tavira still retains. By keeping it’s unique charm we are hopefully capturing the essence of Tavira and its lovely warm & welcoming locals and it is this, along with it’s great central location, that makes our house and Tavira so very special.

Fantastic holidays

  • 5 of 5

Would recommend Casa Marisol as a great place to stay, & we're sure anyone would feel the same. Perfectly situated in the historic centre, nice and quiet and spotlessly clean. Close to all the restaurants and local artesian shops. The municipal market is a short walk away, with a great variety of organic fresh fruit, veg, and fresh seafood for the BBQ. Perfect base to explore. Very pretty boat ride to the local beach, which is geared up perfectly for families and teenagers equally, fantastic ! Would thoroughly recommend

Brilliant House in Tavira

  • 5 of 5

House is as described, spacious, clean and homely, it was perfect for us. Had everything that we needed to make our stay a memorable one. Nestled amongst the cobbled streets, Casa Marisol was located in an excellent place to explore the beautiful and charming town of Tavira. The beach is fabulous and can be reached by catching a boat from the waterfront, which is a few minutes walk from the house. Lots of great restaurants to choose from. Would definitely recommend to family & friends!

Everything we needed and more!

  • 5 of 5

Great accommodation, so close to town but not noisy at all. Highlight for us was being able to make full use of the private terraces that the house offered. We really enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine, drinking a nice glass of vinho verde. When it got a bit too hot we had the advantage of being able to move to another terrace in the shade. Have already recommend to friends & family. Thank you for a lovely stay at your charming house, feeling relaxed and energised.

Good location in the middle of town

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice relaxing week in Tavira, the house was very clean and had everything you needed, it had plenty of space, the wifi worked well and the aircon was great. The house itself is "quirky" this means it has many nice features and not conventional in its layout but not necessarily to everyone's taste. The lack of a bathroom upstairs is a slight issue mainly because the stairs are very steep and could be difficult in the dark, also you have to access the 2nd bedroom via the 1st bedroom. The main double bed was too hard for me and squeaked a lot when moving about, the hardness of beds seems to be common in Europe may be I'm just getting too used to the personal comforts of home! Again the stairs outside to access the higher outdoor areas are very steep so we never used these areas, carrying drinks etc is a bit of a challenge. None of these things are major issues but could be better highlighted in the description and overall we did really enjoy our stay and we will be back in Tavira again soon (hopefully).

Owner's Response: Dear Simon & Jennifer, thank you for your 4 star review. Good to hear that you had a good stay and that the firmer beds of Europe have not stopped you from a return visit. During the renovation of our original townhouse, we made the conscious decision to preserve as many original features and character as possible, and lovingly sourced local hand made materials in the rebuild. We believe that this, along with the outdoor space and superb location, are what sets the house apart from the rest. The character is what makes our house, like Tavira, so endearing, unique and special. The house is set over two floor and whilst the original layout and steps could be considered a little steep for some, the addition of plenty of hand rails hopefully remedies this. The double bedroom on the ground floor is designed perfectly around a couple as yourself, all on one level alongside the bathroom, living room, large kitchen and all with easy direct access to outside garden. We constantly update the house with all modern facilities that renters have come to expect of their holiday accommodation, and hope that we have also created a real home from home. A nice relaxing week is the perfect compliment..it’s what we aim to deliver and is what holidays are all about. We look forward to seeing you soon.

A typical Portuguese property. Quite cool indoors. Stairs not too good for the older generation.

Tavira is an excellent place to stay. Good bus and train service to lots of different places. Plenty to visit in Tavira itself. Hope to return next year.

Perfect house, location and host

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this charming, full-of-character house, which is exactly as described. The three outside areas, which provide both sun and shade all day long, are a highlight, but the cool, clean, spacious, quirky interior also makes the place special. We had everything we needed for a thoroughly relaxing holiday.

The location is also ideal, being just a few minutes level walk from restaurants, bars, a supermarket and the bustling centre of Tavira. You couldn't really go wrong with any of the restaurants, all serving delicious food at good prices.

The owner Vicky and welcoming host Julie were both super-helpful, Julie being on hand to show us around initially and promptly answer questions throughout our stay. We also found the folks of Tavira to be extremely friendly and welcoming.

Thank you so much Vicky for sharing your house with us. It was perfect!
