Great home with all the amenities. Hot tub very relaxing after a day in Yosemite Valley.

Great for our family of 10- 6 adults and 4 kids. Separate area for kids let them play games and stay up a little later and not bother the adults.

An Uneven Experience

  • 3 of 5

The cabin itself is beautiful, spacious and well-located. HOWEVER, If you rent this place, be aware it lacks many benefits of a typical VRBO/AirBnB, and comes with additional conditions/expenses.

For instance:

--Even if you rent this (expensive) cabin, each car must pay the $30 entrance fee to the park (so potentially an extra $120 or so);

--During certain months--even if the forecast is 60 and sunny--you are required to have chains for your car. Chains are not returnable at stores, so buy them in advance on-line or from Craigslist (more extra $$$);

--Check in time is excessively late (4pm) and check out excessively early (10am), so unlike a standard rental you lose about 3-4 hours of rental time;

--You pick up the keys at the office, which closes at 5pm, so only an hour window between check in and closing. After 5pm (again, unlike a regular airbnb) no one is available to answer questions or provide assistance. Keys are left outside, and anything you might need (fire kindling, extra towels) etc. will be unavailable until the next day. (In our case, they handwrote a note on the key envelope that the oven was broken, and that it might be repaired the next day, and that a convection oven had been placed on the counter instead.);

--Not even basic condiments are provided: salt, pepper, ketchup, sugar, oil, etc. Not even those of previous guests are allowed to remain. No paper towels or napkins--just one sponge and two sad dishtowels. Disappointing, and a problem for guests who flew in;

--The extensive regulatory documents and excessive signatures required are laughably hostile; it's like TSA is running park hospitality. In case you ever wondered how a federal bureaucracy would operate VBRO, here's your chance! (Our cabin seemed to be privately owned, so not sure how that partnership works.)

The office staff were quite nice, though the atmosphere and interactions felt more similar to those at a KOA campground. But when you drop $600+ a night on a cabin, should you really feel like you're roughing it?

Some notes/recommendations for improvement (from everyone in our party):

--Dishes in top rack of dishwasher don't get clean (another review mentioned this);

--Only one bath towel per person is provided. No one wants to use that for the hot tub as well. Provide at least two please.

--If there's a problem/change with something in the rental (like broken oven) please email beforehand.

A 3-star that could have been a 5.

Owner's Response: Dear Redwoods Guest, Thank you for your feedback on your stay at The Redwoods located inside beautiful Yosemite National Park. We appreciate the time that you took to write this review! Although we consistently rate an average of 4.9 out of 5 stars in our 120 vacation home rentals, we do strive for perfection! We hope that you will visit The Redwoods in Yosemite again. Should you choose to stay with us, please know that we provide 24/7 service. When our business office closes (5 pm during the off-peak season and 6 pm during peak, summer, and holiday season) we continue to have staff near the afterhours phones for any questions or needs that you may have. We provide this phone number on your after hours check in packet (conveniently left for you outside the front door) as well as in the vacation home. Although check in time begins at 4 pm due to our cleaning standards (we have a team that cleans, and an independent inspection prior to guest check in) we will always strive to first ready the homes that have guests waiting who have arrived early. Be sure to check on the status of your home when you arrive. Our guests rate our cleanliness and service standards in the high 90's and we want to keep this guest score high! Due to Park conservation and the California drought we always provide one towel per registered guest, however, you may always obtain more linens and other supplies at our Front Desk to suit your individual tastes. Again, due to conservation efforts we do not provide paper towels, however there is a wonderful local market that has additional items that you may desire while you stay with us. Yosemite National Park does charge visitors an entry fee. Because we are located INSIDE the Park we cannot avoid this, however it is an amazing experience to stay within a National Park. We are located in the historic town of Wawona near the Wawona History Center, the historic Swinging Bridge on the Wild and Scenic Merced River, the Meadow Loop with its pet friendly trails, and the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite, Chilnualna Falls! The National Park requires all vehicles to carry traction devices November through April for safety reasons. They can be rented locally in the nearby town of Oakhurst and returned as you leave. Thanks again for the feedback! And please be assured that we have addressed your maintenance concerns regarding the oven with the homeowner to arrange repair. We look forward to seeing you again!

Had a wonderful time with family! Cabin was beautiful , clean and spacious as always. Furnished nicely. The spa was an added treat. Property management came by daily to test chemical balance. Looking forward to another year! Thank you to the owners who so graciously open their wonderful home for a visit in this little piece of paradise that we call Yosemite.

Cedar Chalet was very well-appointed and comfortable. The house was roomy and perfect for a national park getaway. We were 7 adults, and everyone felt the same as I did - that we would absolutely recommend the house and location to others visiting the park. The office staff were very kind and accommodating as well!

We're from Georgia, and booking a house so far from home, based only from information provided on the internet, it is very stressful, so I am very thankful that everything worked out as we expected, and that it was a great vacation all around.

Thanks so much.

Housekeeping: One area that needs to be addressed

  • 2 of 5

Four-bedroom houses within the park are not easy to find. While this house was roomy and relatively well equipped, its overall cleanliness was decidedly sub-standard.

We found uncleaned areas all around the house (e.g. shelves, countertops, cabinet draws, moldings, doors, tubs, floor mats, etc.), many of them were clearly the result of long periods of neglects. For example, the gap between the kitchen backsplash and the sink was so full of slimy brown-color residuals that we ended up cleaning it ourselves. Even with the bathroom tiles in dark blue color, we could still see molds along the grouts and corners. We ran the dishwasher twice for one set of dishes and plates only to find some of them remained soiled afterwards.

It is a big house, but the housekeeping aspect of the house is definitely amiss. Perhaps the staff simply doesn't have enough time to do a good cleaning to the house before the time that guests are allowed to check-in? Hopefully this housekeeping issue gets the necessary attention from the Redwood management team.
